Those blinders got the Patriots to 9 Super Bowls in 20 years. He's 14-6 with guys other than Brady in the last 15 years. Yeah, they had some misses in the draft and free agent signings but ALL TEAMS DO. All they have to do to be a playoff team is win their division even if they go 8-8 (* look at this year's NFC East) . Do you see the Darnold led Jets doing it? The rebuilding Dolphins? The Bills are the strongest competition and I for one am not sold on Allen as their QB taking the next step. So yes, I think the Patriots are a playoff team, not a great one but they will rebuild and in 2021 have the cap space to make some moves.

Stidham doesn’t make good reads, not athletic enough or intelligent enough to beat pressure, lacks touch on deep passes, quite frankly his arm talent is slightly above average but nothing more than that..his ceiling is very limited. I don’t see him ever reaching beyond average nfl starter in his career. Year 2, expect bottom 3 starter.

Everyone keeps talking about how little offensive talent we have. Have we totally given up on Harry after 7 games? Do we think Sanu is terrible? Is Andrews coming back? Develin?
I'm not suggesting that there are no holes, but I think saying they have "the worst offensive weapons in the NFL" is just the typical negativity we seem to get a fair dose of around here.

Do you think the coaching staff has a good read on where Stidham stands at the moment in comparison to where Garoppolo and Brissett were at the start of their 2nd years? Do you not trust them to make that evaluation after watching him in their system for a year?

garoppolo better, maybe on the same level as brissett. I’m sure coaching staff has an idea.

he’s not the only problem. After Edelman whose turning 34, our WRs absolutely stink. We have the worst starting TE in the nfl, our starting RB is a first round bust, and our HOF O line coach just retired.

we need to SELL and fully rebuild. We lack talent and have zero cap space..big problem!

in year 2, only 3 QB's that started as many games as brady had fewer yards (griese, testaverde, banks), so it makes sense........ they will emphasize the run and defense

if they needed Brady to be a top 3 QB, it would have been a disaster

So, you don't trust Belichick and McDaniels to make the evaluation, then?

Because it's certainly starting to look like they think he's the guy.

Can the rebuild crowd please provide a few examples of playoff teams that traded away their best talent, sucked for a few years then became a perennial contender? Several are espousing this approach and am honestly interested in seeing how it was done.

I've never been a fan of intentional tanking/rebuilds, but what do people think there is to gain by acquiring a perennially mediocre QB like Dalton or Carr and further ruining our financial situation?

Count me on the Stidham bandwagon as well. Just throw him into the fire this year...it can only be a win-win for us as fans.

I don't want us to bring in a vet who would get all the snaps. I want to see what Stidham has.

Before we signed Hoyer for peanuts I was fine with signing any of Dalton, Carr, Newton or Winston for a similarly absurdly cheap contract. This year there seem to be more QBs available than there are landing spots so you might have an inverse bidding war.

Who would say no to taking a flyer on any of them for really cheap ?

But ultimately if they believe that Stidham could have a JG-esque year 2 jump then Hoyer is the ideal backup in terms of associated cost and pre-existing experience.

That’s the interesting thing. With Brady (my all time favorite), he keyed in on Edelman and White too much. Back in his earlier days, he would say he would hit the open receiver, and he meant it, he would spread the ball around more evenly.

With Stidham, he doesn’t have a history with one receiver, so we may see the offense spread around more evenly. He’s not gonna play favorites. The team will not have to deal with that “it takes a while for a receiver to get in sync with Brady” issues. He’s just gonna throw it without any preconceived notions. It’ll be interesting to see if rookie receivers can adapt faster now that Brady isn’t here.

Not talking down on Brady, just interested to see how this works out. Maybe the adaptability for new receivers issue won’t exist anymore. You look at all the rookie receivers who have succeeded the last 5 years, it doesn’t seem like an issue with most teams , the Pats seem like an odd exception.

People here on this forum are desperate for an answer at QB right away. They are in denial how bad this team is right now.

    Possible.

Also possible that there's a certain segment of Patriots fans that are so upset at losing Brady that they've managed to convince themselves that everything sucks.

im fully expecting a 5-11 season. Let’s mentally prepare ourselves for a transition post Brady that won’t go so smooth at first because of all BBs failed draft picks on offense.
Times will get better, I just don’t see it being for a few years or until we find a real QB
