Isn't this kind of standard for the vast majority of young quarterbacks, though? I remember Brady taking a ton of sacks in 2001 - especially early in the season.

I think the reasonable expectation is that a lot of this would improve simply by getting more reps.

He can also make all of the NFL throws. Not every NFL QB can.

I admit I have not examined studs closely... but I know a guy who has. So when this season comes around whenever that is... i expect a competent game manager with good arm , good wheels and mobility. That equals a bunch of first downs and victories alongside a good defense and special teams. Now we wait.....

While team gets a STUD TE..!!

    For what it's worth...

Daniel Jeremiah expects Jarrett Stidham to be New England’s starting QB next season

“I do, I think [Stidham]’s going to be their starter,” Jeremiah answered. “I haven’t talked to anyone directly with the Patriots, but with talking to buddies around the league that have close ties in that building, they said there’s a lot of confidence inside that organization that Jarrett Stidham is going to be as good, or better, than Jimmy Garoppolo. So, they’re high on him and what he can do.”

Jeremiah then went a step further and shared his opinion that New England may be looking forward to opening up the offense a bit with the more mobile Stidham replacing Brady in the lineup.

“I think his ability to move around, you know, after being in really the same system and structure for 20 plus years with Tom Brady, I think you’re going to see, now we’re going to see maybe a little more creativity with some quarterback movement stuff that Jared can bring to the table,” Jeremiah said. “So, I thought he needed some time, you know. You guys saw a lot of them over the years — talent has always been there, I just thought he needed some time to develop. Apparently, what we didn’t get to see on the practice field during the year, he’s made some progress there.”

Auburn fans like him, said he did bad when the OL sucked but otherwise could make all the throws

All seem to think he would do well.
I don’t hate the idea of trading up for a guy we think is better.
But if the Patriots are high on him as I was coming out I think he will be good to very good his first season starting.

Lots of wishful thinking on Stidham. We'd probably be hearing the same stuff if Brady left in 2012 and Mallett was due to start.

Probably would be hearing the same from most people, but a lot of us who watched Mallett play in the preseason saw a guy who consistently threw line drives at a downward trajectory with no intellectual aspect to his game whatsoever. Stidham looked a hell of a lot closer to Garoppolo than Mallett in limited preseason action.

Most rookie QBs under Belichick throw either zero or one TD pass during their rookie preseason. Including Brady. The two exceptions are Garoppolo (5) and Stidham (4).

I think our offense under Stidham will be uncomfortably similar in quality to the last year we had with Brady. I see it shaking out one of 3 ways:

    1) Coaches emphasize ball security and conservative play; Stidham throws for not many TDs or yards, but very few INTs. We pretty much see the same dead in the water offense as last year, which couldn't move the ball but also didn't give it away too often.

    2) Stidham tries to do too much and ends up with boom or bust production on a week by week basis, resulting in an offense that at times looks way better than last year but at times looks worse than it ever did in the Brady era through turnovers.

    3) Stidham improves enough to get a longer leash from the coaches and ends up producing similarly to 2019 Brady (good but not great). The team would be about as good as it was last year.

There's some arguments to be made about whether 1 and 3 are the same scenario, but I think overall this is the range of outcomes we're looking at. What we probably won't see is a rookie Mark Sanchez type of year filled with turnovers and not much positive play to redeem those turnovers.

Good example of many here who actively wish for Stidham to do poorly -- a negative variety of wishful thinking.

Was Brady a band-aid too when they drafted him to sit under that franchise QB at the time then?

It'll be nice to root for a QB who isn't in a weird water drinking cult.

Not sure how I missed this. I love the first sentence. Especially when you go on to agree with me after that. Everything in between is one, massive straw man argument. Congrats on the ****post. You have a bright ****posting future here.

In his defense, if it weren't for ****posting, this forum would basically be three or four guys talking to each other.
