I'm certainly no IBWTer, but "Sony won a Super Bowl" isn't even in the same blah park as "Jackson won a MVP." That one takes the cake, especially since Jackson followed that up with a one and done playoff whereas Sony actually did win a SB.

Unfortunately for the Jackson fans the most important ability is his weakest. His availability.
Sony was OK. A million other non first round pick JAGs could have played a similar role on that SB team

Lamar absolutely makes us a contender for several years.
Do the Patriots have all-world TEs that can both block and catch? Do they have a mauling OL built to maximize another runner in the backfield?

LJ is one of a kind - emphasis on the one. He requires very unique, and difficult to get, teammates across the offense however to maximize that specialness and make that contender aspect a reality. If we are really truthful about the Patriots team right now, they're not built to maximize a run-specialist passer like LJ on offense (I think they do have a defense that can assist with a good turnover ratio).

And what it would take to get an keep him also removes ALL of the flexibility to make said roster adjustments. He'd be a round peg in a square hole. The above doesn't even speak to his injury prone last couple seasons, which the Patriots current OL likely make MORE of a concern, not less.

If that had been the first move of free agency - and the other moves all worked to build an LJ offense...sure, but that ship has sailed.

Anyone that brings "system" doesn't really know what they're talking about.

Jackson was a Heisman level player in college running an EP variation. MVP in the NFL in a completely different system.

He'd outperform Mac in any offense.
can't pass from the pocket, can't win against top defenses - arguments against jackson by die hard mac jones supporters

Jackson is an interesting case here, he does not have an agent, which will save him up to 3% on his next contract. However, there really is no market for him. I see where he wants to hold out for the most guaranteed money, but really, he is making the Ravens case for them. He will play on the franchise tag, and hope that he doesn't get hurt, again.

He should have taken the deal the Raven's offered when they offered him a 5-year extension $250 mil, half of which was guaranteed. Granted he will make 32 mil on the tag this year, but NOBODY is giving up two first round picks, and then signing him to a giant all guaranteed contract. Talk about leaving yourself no out.

Looking at the league, who would even entertain a visit from Lamar? BB should have him in, just to scout the Ravens offense.

I do agree with this but believe pats could still get personnel to maximize his skills. Maybe not all pro types but run blocking specialists.

As below, he told the world that he already was offered $133M guaranteed for three years, so more total guarantees, more guaranteed per year, and less years so he could get another bite of the apple sooner.

So IMO it's not about getting a fully guaranteed contract, nor is it about being well paid, it's all about getting Deshawn Watson's contract.

And to get him we'd need to offer the Watson contract or something close to it, AND send two first rounders to BAL.

Just. Not. Gonna. Happen.

If BB even brought Lamar in for a visit it would destroy Mac’s psyche and he would ask out.

Suppose the Patriots drafted Lamar Jackson instead of Sony Michel and he was the current Pats QB, if the idea came up whether or not to resign Lamar the fans would be in an uproar about them not resigning him and letting him go, we’d be too cheap and letting a former MVP go because we wouldn’t spend the money.
You have your answer: they knew all about Jackson yet still took Michel, so this is just totally outside the realm of the plausible.

Him having no agent could have played into the decision to pass on him, IMO.

2nd Team Getting Their First Start
I don't doubt Jackson's production on the field, and ability to make plays.
I doubt his team-first loyalty and durability. And those are what will kill a franchise after paying ~$200M for a longterm deal.
No thanks.

Fair enough. Better than arguing the former MVP is worthless because of a bad wonderlic score.

Sorry to all those lamar fans out there but i dont want to pay a guy that is more of a rb than qb and cant stay healthy and give up assets not to mention pay up for him , this team needs o line d line secondary and reciever help... so to the espn talking heads like niko and to the mac jones haters club on weei like wiggy cox and adam jones... Stick to the plan let see how mac jones does after that wasted year last year get him one more wr build the o line up thru the draft and stop the lamar jackson nonsense , he is not that good as they say ,

HELL NO on Lamar. Never been impressed with his style of play and he would be the greatest headache that ever was a Patriot. Injury wise and not the team first attitude, HARD PASS.

That tweet is 100% real...as is THIS, the year he won "MVP" on all fifty ballots.....22nd in passing yards that season...TWENTY SECOND!!! Yet he was voted "unanimous!!!!" on all 50 ballots. Got exposed and slaughtered in the playoffs but "don't you dare try to call my Lamary anything but the greatest!!!!"....obviously the sports media darling of 2019 who frothed over his running total. Newsflash...it's now 2023 and Lamarred still can't read a third grade spelling book...never mind ANY NFL defense in the league. Kyler Murray won NFL rookie of the year cementing the narrative of the "new NFL running QB paradigm!!!!". How's that working out in 2023? Yeah, I'd love a mobile QB that racks up yardage on the ground...a SMART INTELLIGENT football player. PATRICK MAHOMES. I can understand you glory hog obsessed "Pats" fans sticking you heads up HIS strata chocolata...but this racist clownboy Lamary? Please...I'd rather sit through a season with Michael Bishop..
