I'll admit i was wrong - Amendola didn't work

It's interesting to note that many expect Eric Decker to bring in approximately 9 million or so in annual value in free agency, and he has had the last 2 seasons with reception totals in the 80's, yet we're going to make such a big deal about Amendola's 54 catches and 3.5m dollar cap hit like it was the worst thing to ever happen to the team.

Amendola's year was down due to several factors, but it's not nearly the problem that some are making it out to be either.

Amendola's career high in yardage is 689. Decker's had over 1000 yards in receiving in each of the past 2 seasons.

In the future, if Amendola ends up producing 2/3rds of Decker at 2/3rd of the cost, then it shouldn't be viewed as the end of the world.

I think, for most people, the Amendola point is that he got hurt just as many of us had warned was likely to happen. There are the crazies who'll take anything too far, but I think that's the key takeaway from Amendola's year.

I personally felt that he would produce about 80 catches myself, so I am disappointed too. I am just saying that I don't believe it is quite the issue that some are making it out to be either.

That said, the possibility exists that if Edelman stays, Amendola may not live up to his deal no matter what, and may be asked to restructure anyway. I think that Belichick didn't want to leave himself high and dry with nothing, and obviously couldn't envision that Edelman would stay healthy and end up producing this much. Now that has happened, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and it may take at least another year to determine.

Aside from still being slightly bitter than we didn't just up the offer to Welker a bit more, (I still believe our 2/11 with more guaranteed money in year one would've been enough for him to turn down their 2/12--so it really came down to ONE more million dollars over two years) I still wonder if or why they didn't attempt to resign Edelman to a longer deal last year?

Obviously the foot injury played a part, but one would think that they could have made an offer for 2 yrs instead of 1, considering that his ST play alone would have warranted that.

The only possible answers that I see are that either the foot injury was a very serious concern, and/or that they may have offered a deal more than 1 year, and Edelman was the one who turned it down.

Unless he reinjures his foot at the beginning of nezt season, then he would suck and they would be idiots for making the deal.

But other than that i would love it, let's hope they get it done and we don't have to demand they release him next October.

I've been an Amendola guy from day one and I'll say I'm not as dissapointed in his season as some, but I will say the one thing I was hammering was he'd make the catches in the playoffs WW couldn't. For this year, I was def proven WRONG. And for that I'm disappointed. I'm not giving up on him yet though. I still think he's a good WR that could do more then Welker could. Also I think his confidence must be low, I'm also gonna put blame on Brady for that. We've seen before that if your in Brady's dog house your pretty much f****d. Here's hoping these 2 hook up in the off season to work on chemistry.

Why would you be looking at cash values paid by billionaire Bob Kraft? He has enough money to literally have the next 10 generations deep into the 22nd century be wealthier than anyone could ever imagine. Unless you are a close relative (and even then I don't think they'd care too much, since his NEP football business made plenty of profit this year), I'm not sure why you'd even bring this up?

You should be concerned with the salary cap as it pertains to his worth, not cash. Amendola cost us 3.5m against the cap this year, and averaged 4.5 catches a game in his 12 games player in the regular season.

In terms of team building I am only concerned with his cap # but when determining his value I look at what he was actually paid vs. what he produced. I never said to cut Amendola I said that I don’t rule anything out with Belichick but I have never advocated to cut him, the reason I point this out is because it is not about team building it is about failing to earn his paycheck.

Letting Welker go was still the right move. He's clearly on the decline. I'm glad they didn't fork over the extra mil just for sentimental reasons. Welker had an below then average game last Sunday. I will say, I'd be more dissapointed if we don't keep Edelman. JE11 derseves the contract. And I think this year proved Edelman is a better receiver then both Welker and Amendola.

Meh, the extra million they saved would've been a drop in the ocean had they kept WW and won one more regular season game and hosted the Broncos. Things may have been different, who knows? IMO fans are being pennywise pound foolish if they crow about the whopping extra million dollars the Pats didn't spend on WW.

What concerns me is what if Dobson and Boyce make the second year leap which I think they’re both capable of, we resign Edelman, Gronkowski returns healthy and we add a legitimate second tight end in the draft or free agency.

That is going to happen if he signs a deal similar to DA. If he has 8 catches thru 4 games and everyone saying it was a great signing in March, will say how a horrible a signing it was and it is killing the cap.

the groin clearly limited his lateral movements which for a slot WR are important. watch videos of him with the rams, or the first bills game...and then vids from this year.

its clear after the groin injury he only ran straightened off routs or seam routes

and lets be honest, Edelman has as much an injury history as Amendola. People for some reason are brushing that under the table because he had his First fully healthy season.

Considering Decker had 2 more touchdowns this season than Amendola has in his entire career I wouldn’t really compare the 2 players because it will not bode well for Danny Boy. Not that I think Decker is worth $9 million but take a look at the numbers; Decker enters free agency with – 222 catches, 3070 yards, and 33 touchdowns. Amendola entered free agency in with – 196 catches, 1726 yards, and 7 touchdowns. So if you believe Amendola is worth his deal Decker probably is worth about $15 million per season.
