Michigan's problem was they didn't feel enough pressure. They thought the game would be a cakewalk, and it cost them any dreams they may have had about winning a national championship this year (not to mention going down in history as the biggest college football upset ever).

Yes, from the fans and from the media, its more acceptable to lose to a team at your level then it is to a team that you are supposed to beat.

But I don't think players feel that way. I think every Jet player believes in his heart that the Jets can win the game on Sunday as long as they execute correctly, while every Pat player believes the Pats can win as long as they execute.

Actually, there was plenty of talk of firing him prior to this year. He's something like 1-5 against Ohio State... that ain't a great way to have job security at UM.

Well, obviously, if there was talk of firing a HC and then he goes out and loses the biggest upset of all time in college football, that talk is only going to increase. But it's just not accurate to say that prior to Saturday's debacle there had "been no real talk of firing the coach." Just about everyone knew that one more loss to OSU and he was a goner.

Well then, as usual, you really don't know what you are talking it. Fact is most observers considered this Carr's final season one way or another. And I am not sure I consider the Alamo Bowl (2 years ago) to be a "big bowl."

If you are talking about the point you made regarding pressure and "its more acceptable to lose to a team at your level then it is to a team that you are supposed to beat" then yeah I think that makes some sense when we are talking about the pros. I am not sure I agree 100% but you make a valid point. (If we are still talking about college then I disagree, but that's a different matter).

I will, however, say this: If the Jets want to be taken seriously as a contender this year, they better hold serve and win their home game against NE. A loss this Sunday sets them up for a season sweep and shows that they just aren't quite ready for primetime yet.

It is the first game of the year. I think the pressure is pretty much on both teams. The Pats have pressure to prove they are the best team as many in the media think and can overcome the loss of Seymour and Harrison. The Jets need to show that last year wasn't a fluke because of a soft schedule and letting go of Pete Kendall and not upgrading their d-line wasn't a huge mistake.

Agreed. It's a long season. Let's not panick right out of the gate. Personally, I think it's going to be fairly close.
