If Jets were to beat the Patriots then Mangini becomes...

But that doesn't mean the Mighigan team was "under pressure" to win the game, and certainly not under more pressure than they would have been had they been playing Notre Dame.
Michigan's problem was they didn't feel enough pressure. They thought the game would be a cakewalk, and it cost them any dreams they may have had about winning a national championship this year (not to mention going down in history as the biggest college football upset ever).

Let me get this straight. The Jets aren't good enough to be expected to defend their home field against a division opponent, and they feel no pressure about that?
Bad teams feel tons of pressure.

Dude, you either need to reread what I just wrote or you're just trying to get me frusterated...

Sorry, I don't get this pressure thing. So when Michigan plays USC they feel less pressure to win than when they play Southern CT State?
Yes, from the fans and from the media, its more acceptable to lose to a team at your level then it is to a team that you are supposed to beat.

But I don't think players feel that way. I think every Jet player believes in his heart that the Jets can win the game on Sunday as long as they execute correctly, while every Pat player believes the Pats can win as long as they execute.

Now that little paragraph just shows me that you didn't read what I wrote, at least not to carefully.
As far as Michigan goes, sure they are getting more criticism than Appalacian State would get. If AS lost 35-34 they wouldn't be criticised at all I don't think.
Exactly, and UM has lost a lot of games to teams such as USC, Ohio St. etc... And to this point there's been no real talk of firing the coach, now they're is.

See above.

Actually, there was plenty of talk of firing him prior to this year. He's something like 1-5 against Ohio State... that ain't a great way to have job security at UM.

Ya, there was some talk, but he was never as threatened as he is now.

Well, obviously, if there was talk of firing a HC and then he goes out and loses the biggest upset of all time in college football, that talk is only going to increase. But it's just not accurate to say that prior to Saturday's debacle there had "been no real talk of firing the coach." Just about everyone knew that one more loss to OSU and he was a goner.

I wouldn't say that considering theyve played in a big bowl game something like the past 5 or 6 years I believe.

Well then, as usual, you really don't know what you are talking it. Fact is most observers considered this Carr's final season one way or another. And I am not sure I consider the Alamo Bowl (2 years ago) to be a "big bowl."

So maybe I was wrong, but do you get the point I was trying to make?

If you are talking about the point you made regarding pressure and "its more acceptable to lose to a team at your level then it is to a team that you are supposed to beat" then yeah I think that makes some sense when we are talking about the pros. I am not sure I agree 100% but you make a valid point. (If we are still talking about college then I disagree, but that's a different matter).

I will, however, say this: If the Jets want to be taken seriously as a contender this year, they better hold serve and win their home game against NE. A loss this Sunday sets them up for a season sweep and shows that they just aren't quite ready for primetime yet.

It shows me that what you wrote and what you think you wrote are not the same thing.

It is the first game of the year. I think the pressure is pretty much on both teams. The Pats have pressure to prove they are the best team as many in the media think and can overcome the loss of Seymour and Harrison. The Jets need to show that last year wasn't a fluke because of a soft schedule and letting go of Pete Kendall and not upgrading their d-line wasn't a huge mistake.

Agreed. It's a long season. Let's not panick right out of the gate. Personally, I think it's going to be fairly close.

He gets a walk on role in the new ESPN series 'The Meadowlands is Melting' playing the role as made guy 'Manny Peanuts' nephew of the boss 'The Big Mangina'. Manny quickly gets whacked when his gayness is revealed by continuously humming the show tune 'When You're a Jet'.

Nothing special.
Hey it is their home game.
They were a playoff team.
They had a better draft spot than us.
They think they closed the gap.
This is must win for them.
Just should win for us.
