If Cam is returning, we need a better QB room around him.

@robertweathers

I was pretty supportive of Cam last season but it seemed evident he was done. Do you think he can play better with a better offense? If he is our starter going forward, do you think this offense will be okay? What's your opinion?
Bottom 5 offense.

Sorry. From my view it proves nothing of the sort.

I think Cam signed because he saw his market and a fair chance at playing here.

I'm am surpremely confident Cam and Bill had, "the talk"
The talk resulted in cam abandoning free agency and signing here.
He says he is definitely a starter.
A definite starter doesn’t pass up free agency to sign without confidence he is being given the job.

No because if newton was given no assurances he wouldn’t have signed here before even making one single call to another team.
Bill sold Cam on being his QB and cam was so impressed that he didn’t even check the market. This is after cam said he won’t be a backup.
2+2=4
Bill Belichick has the QB he wants.

and he is probably the only one in the world that wants him.
I feel fans are overreacting to Cam's contract and assuming he is a lock to start 16 games.

Exactly we could have Trevor Lawrence and Cam would start no matter what. That’s how much Bill loves Cam. Love is blindness

He is a lock. Dude you need to take of your head from the sand

No.

Based on the year he had in 2019 and the contract structure if Cam thinks he is a lock to start 16 games he is an absolute moron.

Why would he sign before free agency if he wasn’t given assurances? He surely could have waited to see if other teams offered him more money and/or a commitment.

Who knows. 1000s of things could have happened. Maybe he needs the cash. Maybe because of a downsized cap. Maybe he genuinely likes it here. Maybe because there are too many QB prospects and FA QBs he struck while he could.

Why would he not pursue free agency?
He says he deserves to start.
he signs with the only team that can negotiate with him, who he started all season for before even trolling interest.
If he wasn’t given assurances he is an absolute moron.
That would mean he believes he deserves to start and before checking with all 32 teams he signs with one that won’t commit to him.

if this were 3 weeks from now you would have a point but belichick enticed him and it clearly wasn’t the money.

I responded to your other message, same topic.

None of those add up to a guy who says he deserves to start signs without a commitment before even checking with other teams.
The pittance he got doesn’t move the needle.
He needs the cash? Seriously?
We watched last year while belichick praised the guy we watch stink. We scoffed. We all heard the off season rumors that he loved cam and refuted he was moving on. We scoffed.
Now he signs a guy who says he will only sign as a starter and we think now, finally belichick gets it and he doesn’t really want Newton but signed him anyway. Just to troll us?

I mean he benched him after a legendary meltdown in KC and made Stidham the backup for the rest of the year. I am not creative enough to see how Hoyer gets out of this hole and back onto the 53.
I don’t know. Felt the writing on the wall was on Hoyer long before that debacle so hopefully you’re right.

He's like the 31st highest paid QB, behind several backups and ahead of many others only because they are on on rookie deals. His contract does not make him a lock.

Players posture during free agency. I really don't care what Cam says. It's noise.

Coaches also posture and play politics to keep a happy shop during the season. They also use this time to hedge their bets.

This signing means nothing to me other than BB thinks Cam is a backup and if he plays he can make some cash.

Maybe at the end of TC in August i'll be singing a different tune but it's mid-March.

"If Cam is returning, then we need a better QB room around him."

Firstly, you say "if" as though you're trapped in a nightmare. This actually happened. Some people are seemingly happy with it, which is very odd.

Secondly, like what is a supposed better QB room going to do for veteran, former league MVP, who is completely washed? Lots of excuses being made for Cam... no offseason, COVID, zoom meetings... all ridiculous. He spent 3/4 of the season throwing balls at the feet of his receivers. He'll do the same in 2021 regardless of the other likely equally unworthy quarterbacks on the roster. This is going to do wonders for the Patriots FA market.

Bill will not draft a QB in the first round. He signed Cam to be his starter and doesn’t want to pick a QB to compete with him. He doesn’t want to hurt the feelings of his boy Cam.

if we draft a guy like Lance or Jones, I want him to start right away. I certainly don’t want him to learn how to throw ball to the ground from Cam
we fired all our coaches?

I don't want Lance or Jones starting in Game One.

So why would newton sign before free agency.
He forfeited his right to talk to other teams, and it wasn’t for the money.
Belichick had to promise him he won’t bring in competition or newton would have waited a week to see what other teams say.
Was he really afraid of losing the awesome 2 mill Sb and 1.5 mill salary that he had to scoop it up and abandon his negotiating rights.

Look we both sat here all last year perplexed at how bb could keep trotting this guy out there but he has the last laugh, he committed to him all over again.

I would bet a lot of money we do not bring in any QBs with starting experience to compete with him.

he probably promised him Stidham will be the backup too.

It’s the product of Bill thinking is smart because he signed his starting QB for less than other teams back up.

it’s funny to see all the Bill lovers trying to justify this horrible move by saying that Cam is not a lock to start.
