The entire secondary looks mediocre when we put no pressure on the QB, which is waaaay too often. I think he'll be borderline elite for the bulk of his career, especially if he's at FS.
I do agree that he doesn't tackle well...he just hits...but that appears to be the way things are in the modern game. Guys just don't wrap up, and it's irritating.
I don't get comments like this. In the NFL, every quarterback will pick apart a defensive backfield if given time and no pressure. DBs cannot touch anybody five yards off the line and offenses run complex routes to weak parts of a defense. So yeah, the DBs look mediocre if the front 7 isn't pressuring the QB or getting receivers out of their routes.
The Pats have always played a bend-don't-break pass defense. BB says it in everybody press conference or interview about not giving up big plays. He doesn't care about underneath stuff as long as no one gets behind the defense.
The Pats have given up only 251 points all season - average of 16.7 per game, second in the AFC to the Jets.
Not much of a pass rushing team, this would seem to indicate that the DBs are doing a pretty good job.
Yep, it's sad, some teams get good players off the junk heap of the late rounds and turn them into effective starters. Landry in Wash. for example. We draft guys high and then turn into JAGs or low and turn into less than JAGs like what's his name.
Yet another place BB should be forbidden to draft high. Safeties and WRs. Although I do like one Golden Tate, he might be good for us say in the 2nd roudna-roo.
Are you seriously saying that LaRon Landry was a late round, junk heap pick for the Skins who turned into an effective starter??
If so, then you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Landry was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft!

Evaluating the defense and it's place vs the rest of the league is taboo on patsfans.com.
If the defense surrenders a completion, first down, or heaven forbid points; a merry band of posters here come out of the woodworks to whine and moan.
We also have a segment of the population that doesn't believe points matter and ANY victory is only due to the other team being terrible and beating themselves.
The same crew also shows up to claim OT losses were really blowouts.
Hi Pittsburgh: Oops. I didn't realize that this Board was so myopic. I'll try to do better next time. You're right. I get the sense that a lot of people just watch the guys in the red, silver & blue uniforms and not the other teams.
I was taught a long time ago to focus on the interior linemen at the snap and then follow the play. You get a sense of what the other team is up to as a play unfolds. This is particularly true when the Pats are on defense so you pick up where guys are headed and for what reason.
Against the Saints the Pats D looked slow the whole game and they wer completely gassed in the 4th quarter against the Colts. My sense is that the Pats are better against running teams and vulnerable late against teams that can stretch the field.
Are you rooting for a Pats-Steelers 1st round?

Good point, our offense couldn't get a 1st down in the 4th quarter to save its life! I mean Maroney for 2, Maroney for 1, Brady incomplete to Welker who was quadruple covered. Punt arooski.
I mean WTH?
It's so funny that you mention that because I even heard one of the Sportscenter dudes sarcastically ask if Welker catches any 10+ catches in a game on a down other than third down. Even I had to laugh at that as I've watched and wondered the same thing week in and week out.

In the spirit of the Patten thread and Karma threads.....
There's no way Brandon Meriweather ever makes the Pro Bowl.
Good call.
Argh. So 1 play is the answer to an entire season for Meriweather then? Cheers for the heads up.His positioning on Rice's first touch from scrimmage is a perfect example why he is not a pro-bowl safety. He was in position to stop that play cold. Took the wrong angle, and Rice was off to the races.
