Hightower out for the year with a torn pec

I'm one of the first to go overboard during game threads - caught up in moment, angry, excitable, high blood pressure, etc...BUT...looking at the remaining schedule CAN/SHOULD the Pats win the following games as currently constituted - SD, MIA, @BUF, @Mia, BUF, NYJ? I say 100% yes they absolutely can and should win those games - that's 6 more wins and they should be looking at 11-5 if they lose at DEN, OAK (in drug cartel land), and at PIT...if this plays out they sweep the division, finish first in AFC E and get a home playoff game...
But as things usually play out they'll probably lose one of the games they should win and win one of the 3 vs OAK/DEN/PIT.
For tie breaking purposes they should do no worse than 5-1 in the division and 8-4 in the conference...
You think they will win 1 or 0 of the raiders broncos and Steelers? Seriously? I expect them to win all 3.

Nope, don't do it! Unless the guy is an ace at covering off the line, don't do it! I don't want to see him getting pancaked on pass rushes. Don't like it!
Ayers did well here and assuming hes in good shape he knows the D and can come right in and contribute.

They need to plan on him being out more often than not. That’s something they need to take care of in the draft/free agency

Can’t count on him
That may be true however * perhaps * if he has surgery he can fully recover.

First of all, prayers and gratitude for Dont'a Hightower without whom there just might two fewer trophies in Foxboro. I hope he has a good recovery and the terrific future that he deserves...whether in or outside Football.

This also makes me reflect how darn hard it is for any team to get to a Super Bowl, let alone win one...or, um, five. So many things have to fall in place...and there has to be a little bit of luck in the form of a ref's call or two along the way and in how that funny shaped ball bounces.

Every team is dealing with adversity. The team for whom the most things fall in place, despite adversity, will be hosting the Lombardi in Minneapolis in February. The Pats still belong on anybody's list of the teams that might be in that position.

Gawd, it never ends

According to schefter there is a chance you can log in once more and find out it’s not season ending

So are we anticipating a miracle or an error/omission by the media?

He was being treated for it BY THE PATRIOTS. Again where do you think the 55% info came from?

The 55% number came from other teams examining him, I believe.

And if the pats knew his pec was torn that much, why didn’t they make him get surgery? Why risk playing him when one wrong move in a game would rupture it?

Might have missed it but Shefter says High is going to see James Andrews for a 2nd opinion.

Pats seem to have to have bad luck with star LBs.

"Funny" that after the 2015 season we were wondering which of Collins/Jones/HT we would have. Now we have none(playing at least).
The shelf life for these guys is amazingly short. I'm starting to feel like you almost never want to extend them for big money beyond their rookie deals. McCourty is the only guy I can think of recently that's played up to the big deal he signed. If anyone has data on this, either way, id love to see it.

It’s on backorder behind the:

No pass rush emoji?

and the board all time favorite:

If there are better options then sure, pass. But we need any help we can get. Ayers positively contributed when he was here.

A worst case scenario, given the current squad, is they lose to PIT, DEN, OAK and sweep the rest to finish 11-5...do you expect the Patriots to win out and finish 14-2? That's awfully optimistic if you do.

The Patriots agree with you.

If you look at the High contract they totally hedged their bets.

With the exception of Brady, I cannot think of another player in the BB era in which they have doled out a mega deal to a player beyond age 30.
