Hey Pats! Powder Blue or Silver Uniforms for Miami Game?????

No one is blaming the Dolphins. As the home team, of course, they have every right to choose the uniform colors - - no one said otherwise. However, if you're going to use the 2011 opening game as an example, two salient facts exist:

1) Patriots wore white unis that game

2) It was at night, so the sun was not a factor.

Reading the linked article above, it becomes clear that the best combo during a sunshine day is to wear clothing the is white on the external side and black on the side against the body.
Having not only grown up, but also having played football in south Florida, trust me when I say that in September in the 4th quarter, the fact that there is no Sun makes very little difference.

It was 2011 and, as was mentioned earlier, it was at night in a white uni.

That was the same game Welker tied the NFL record with the 99 yard TD reception.

I'm not talking about 2011, opening week of the NFL. I'm referring to week 4 on MNF in 2010 at Miami.

But yes they did wear white that game too.

The weather is much less oppressive after the late afternoon shower than it is in the heat of the day.

It's not really the sun. It's the humidity that kills you ultimately. That's where your major loss of fluids come in. When I played night games I was just as drenched in sweat after the game as I was during a day game. The difference is that it doesn't take you as long to feel the effects as it does during the day when the sun is out. I trust the Pats to be the better conditioned team of the two, though, so I'm not worried about it.

I lived in Miami for just under a decade, before moving to central Florida. The Miami weather is much easier to tolerate after the late afternoon shower than it is at 1 in the afternoon. It's not even close.

Edit: Just looked up the rainfall, for the hell of it, and got this from Wiki, which is what I'm talking about:

The wet season begins some time in May, ending in mid-October. During this period, temperatures are in the mid 80s to low 90s (29–35 °C), accompanied by high humidity, though the heat is often relieved by afternoon thunderstorms or a sea breeze that develops off the Atlantic Ocean, which then allow lower temperatures, but conditions still remain very muggy.

I'm partial to the red Patriots throwback if they're looking for a 3rd alternate.

Need to make a red alternate if we aren't getting pat the patriot back.

Ignoring the fact that they cannot wear alternate unis the first week of the season, the silver uniform is considered the "light" uniform so if Miami chooses white, which they certainly will, we couldn't wear the silver anyway.

What about the first 3 quarters?

This ain't the NBA. The entire game counts.

Exactly. And this game happens to be a 1:00pm start time.

I could see Kontra's point better if it were a night game or even a 4pm start. But, that day, we are talking the high point of the sun.

I can only tell you how it feels from recent memory. You don't feel as beat down after the game without the sun, but you're still drained and the majority of it comes from the humidity.

All I said about the 2011 game was that the Pats were the better conditioned team on what was otherwise a hot and muggy night. The heat won't matter so much if they are again the better conditioned team this time around. I'm aware that the sun makes a difference, but I've played football down here both during the day and at night (where I'd be willing to wager my entire savings account that you have not) and am telling you that it's not an easy task at all to play down here at night either during that time of year, at least not as easy of a task as you made it out to be in your response to me. The humidity is still horrible in September even when the sun is not out.

...what? they don't play 4 quarters for no reason....

They do in the NBA. Some teams even dedicate a whole season to it.

I can't ever remember wearing a Pats players jersey in my 53 years as a fan. I've worn some Pats clothing but not a game jersey. The same goes for a backwards baseball hat.

If they come up with a new look I'd like to see a medium dark reflective silver with red, white and blue trim. I could then not wear that one too.

I'd love to see the Pats go for a third red alternate uniform. There was a pic of Kevin Faulk photo shopped with one a couple of years back.

There's more than one high tech cloth that keeps you cool.

COOL AS ICESuper-thin and incredibly silky, the fabric of the NEW BALANCE ICEFIL SHORT-SLEEVE SHIRT ($40) immediately feels great against your skin. Though it becomes a touch wet upon first-sweat, the moisture quickly evaporates and the treated polyester begins it's cooling magic; the shirt features Icefil yarns, which work to lower your body temperature as you sweat. Available in high-visibility color options, all versions of the shirt have reflective treatments–making this top a great pick for hot runs at high noon and low light alike. The top also protects with a 40+ UPF treatment. shopnewbalance.com FOR BOTH
Does Nike make that?

Is there a rule that says they can't have wet jerseys?

I have had a scarf of this fabric around my neck on a hot humid day and it works. Military troops in Iraq and Afghanistan wear it to keep cool for long periods of time. It's alot hotter there than Miami.

High tech materials are available....let's take advantage of them.

Here's a nugget from Mike Reiss to make this game even worse:
_____
"8. With the Patriots visiting the Dolphins in the season opener, the microscope will be focused a bit more sharply on Miami over the next four to five months. The most significant changes from a coaching perspective is at offensive coordinator with Bill Lazor replacing Mike Sherman, so the Patriots will study Lazor’s background closely and how things might look differently in 2014. Lazor has worked under head coaches Dan Reeves, Joe Gibbs, Mike Holmgren and Chip Kelly and head coach Joe Philbin has already said “tempo” and “play speed” are buzzwords the offense is targeting....."

Get ready for a track meet first week of September - early afternoon -Miami .
