Look, I'm no scientist, but it's obvious the Phins are going to make our guys were the dark blue unis on September 7th down there.

Is there a good explanation why the Krafts don't come up with a "collectors edition" light blue or silver (dark enough to contrast vs. the home team's whites????

It would make some money in the Pro Shop and help out the guys in what could be an 80 or 90 degree day.

Just a thought............

Powder blue?! No. BUT, bringing back the silver jersey for this occasion makes sense. (Always loved the silver jersey.) Problem is, I think this would require league approval and I doubt that would happen.

OK, doesn't have to be "powder blue", but the 90's Flying Elvis unis were alot lighter blue.

Today's will microwave the team in a 90 degree game.

Could wear the Red uni but because of the league rules on helmets now it'd have to be with the Silver flying Elvis one and not the white Pat Patriot one.

I'm curious exactly how much hotter the dark jersey makes a player on a hot sunny day. Any studies on this? I also wonder if they have lighter mesh versions vs. a heavier, warmer version for later in the season.

The Pats just need to be the better conditioned team out of the two. It's Miami's home field so they have every right to make the Pats wear the dark blues. The last time we played there in Week 1 (2011), it was hot and humid that night as well but the Pats were by far the better conditioned team out of the two. That needs to be the case again this year.

Some stuff about light/dark clothing here after a quick Google: The Physics that Explain Why You Should Wear Black this Summerhttp://io9.com/5903956/the-physics-that-explain-why-you-should-wear-black-this-summer[u

Really though, I'd say it's more the fit & finish of the clothing more than if they're light or dark.

Aha! Thanks for this. So according to this, the Patriots actually will enjoy a slight advantage wearing the dark jersey in the heat because it absorbs heat from the body, although it also will absorb heat from the sun. Conversely, the white jersey reflects body heat back into the player while reflecting the sun's heat away. So it seems to be an offsetting situation.

In theory if both jerseys are made from identical materials & worn the same way and there's a bit of wind around, then according to that link the Patriots would be at the advantage wearing dark Blue.

It will be hot for them too, playing in that condition is tough even if you are acclimated.

Color matters.
Having reffed too many swim meets in the Florida sunshine.....you wear white or you fry.
Check this link out measuring temps of exterior cars. Black vs White is about 40 degrees.

And for anyone who has sat at ProPlayer in September in the sun.....quite possible the most miserable place on Earth. Lower bowl with no air circulation.....you sit perfectly still hoping not to move and generate heat. Your clothes feel like they are on fire. Why the Florida teams don't dominate at home in Sept and Oct is a mystery. Maybe practicing for two months in this heat has sucked the life out of them. No wonder islanders move so slow.

No one is blaming the Dolphins. As the home team, of course, they have every right to choose the uniform colors - - no one said otherwise. However, if you're going to use the 2011 opening game as an example, two salient facts exist:

1) Patriots wore white unis that game

2) It was at night, so the sun was not a factor.

Reading the linked article above, it becomes clear that the best combo during a sunshine day is to wear clothing the is white on the external side and black on the side against the body.

This makes me wonder if there isn't a high tech materiel that minimizes the effect of the sun, while at the same time absorbs the heat from the body. Something like your white on one side and black on the other idea.

I would think that a team like the Pats who overlooks no detail that might aid them in gaining a victory wouldn't overlook this factor. Is there anyone in the house who knows anything about high tech textiles?

There's more than one high tech cloth that keeps you cool.

COOL AS ICESuper-thin and incredibly silky, the fabric of the NEW BALANCE ICEFIL SHORT-SLEEVE SHIRT ($40) immediately feels great against your skin. Though it becomes a touch wet upon first-sweat, the moisture quickly evaporates and the treated polyester begins it's cooling magic; the shirt features Icefil yarns, which work to lower your body temperature as you sweat. Available in high-visibility color options, all versions of the shirt have reflective treatments–making this top a great pick for hot runs at high noon and low light alike. The top also protects with a 40+ UPF treatment. shopnewbalance.com FOR BOTH

A high tech textile exists and has already been tested.......

Seen a few Patriots wear dark blue as a base layer (Gregory comes to mind first for this) with the White jersey, maybe the team is already onto something in that regard.

How about the pats just play better than the dolphins?
Or maybe Patrick Chung will block a field goal like in 2010 on MNF! Oh dare I think of what the forum would be like if that happened.

It was 2011 and, as was mentioned earlier, it was at night in a white uni.

That was the same game Welker tied the NFL record with the 99 yard TD reception.

I refuse to believe, that this dark colored T will keep me cool while pushing my mower on a hot, humid July day.

I'm simply not foolish enough to believe a nice white T won't be cooler.
