Herald has nothing [only Tomase notebook mention]

Thanks for the updates. I have not clicked on Tomase's blog once and will continue not to until he is replaced.

why does Herald not fire him.?

If he told an editor the complete truth about what he had, he shouldn't get fired. It's not the reporter's job to decide whether he has enough to run the story, nor is it his job to make sure the copy is accurate with respect to what it's reporting.

I understand it's fun to bash on Tomasse here, because he's such an as*. If he lied or shaded things to his editor, then he deserves it. More likely, the true culprit here is someone else.

Patriots fans, let the Herald know that we are unhappy about their sensationalistic rumor mongering, spearheaded by tomase' article! They pay attention to the numbers in their inbox even if they don't read all the emails. Tomase needs to be run out of town. We finally got rid of Borges, let's also get rid of another dishonest parastitic journalist!

So, what, he's supposed to just make sh*t up out of thin air and leave it to his editor to decide if there is enough viable information and a credible enough of a source (actually, the rule of thumb in journalism is TWO sources, but that's gone out the window a LONG time ago) to run the story? I'm sorry, but responsible journalism is just that: you don't 'run with a story' (which is to say, investigate it and type it up) unless you have legitimate information from legitimate sources. I agree, the Herald as an entire newspaper is, in the end, responsible for this crap. But it starts with Tomase and his editor, and I hope to hell there's an investigation of sorts related to his 'source' and where he got all of this wonderful information that just HAD to be run the day before the Super Bowl.

All that shows is he has that many readers,. And we did not get Borges. A seattle fan who caught him in plagiarism did.

Herald has nothing on this whole Goodell press conference yet either.

per WEEI.

PFT has chirping crickets and the Herald...AGAIN..it is quiet..are they waiting for the hammer??

shameful behavior from the Herald. they've gone really down over this rams tape. bye bye tomase

Re: All Quiet on the Boston Herald Front

ya fatmasse, reported every move on the walsh talks with the nfl, where is he now?? sitting at dunkin donuts nervously eating a dozen bavarion cremes
Yeah wearing a Mumu and a fake beard.

Re: herald has nothing

Herald has to do one thing which is to FIRE Tomase because of what he did. Are they waiting for the approval of Goodell or Specter.?

It is the right thing to do because it protects the integrity of the newspaper and makes sure that any writer needs to check his/her source before publishing the article.

Re: herald has nothing

Interesting. I got a feeling something big is going down with Tomase and the Herald soon. Perhaps a demotion to high school sports which is far more than he deserves. But honestly,if the Krafts or coaches want this guy gone, all they have to do is snap their fingers and Herald security would be speedily throwing him head first out the front door to protect their asses.

I don't think it's that simple. Tomase is a Herald employee, not a Patriots employee. I think something has got to be done about Tomase though. The Herald has a lot of egg on its face right now. And the coverage today was pretty extensive. It's not something that the Herald can afford to ignore.

IMO the herald has only one thing they can do. They stand by their source and say it wasn't walsh....we wont reveal who it was as no journalist would willingly give up a source.

If they fire Tommasse they admit they were wrong and actually open themselves up more.

The Herald's Website

I just checked it (its a few minutes after 2 PM) and the site has NOTHING about the meeting between Walsh and Goodell other than the story from this morning that they were meeting today.

A little embarassing? Just a tad

Or the Pats can take the moral high road and just say, "See, we said there was nothing."

Re: herald has nothing

They probably are meeting now trying to figure out what the heck to do. Hopefully they fire TomASSe and throw in Felger just for the hell of it.

It is the BIGGEST mistake if they don't fire Tomase. You can protect your source all years long but nobody is going to read your newspaper any more because you lost your credibility. Between business and BS source, who are you going to protect.?

You can't allow your writer to publish an article on a newspaper without verifying the source because he / she gives you the info.

By firing Tomase, you send a message to all your writers that THEY need to doublecheck the SOURCE before writing an article and can't put themselves in a situation where they are being used. Tomase did all of that. What a disgraced journalist.!

What is going on with the Herald?

I checked out Tomase's blog to see what he would have to say about today's goings on in NY.

After nothing being posted all afternoon, Tomase posted a short an hour or so ago that briefly outlined the basics. Nothing big, just a few paragraphs.

I just checked back a minute ago to see if they would post the Patriot's statement, which obviously was directed at the Herald. Not only was there no mention of the statement, but Tomase's last post was removed so the last post showing was the article from the other day about Randy Moss' golf tournament.

Something strange is happening there...

Even weirder is their latest post:

Statement from Patriots
Posted by Karen Guregian at 3:58 pm

The Patriots issued the following statement in wake of the events transpring in New York with respect to Matt Walsh’s meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell:

“We want to address the allegation that the Patriots taped the Rams’ walkthrough prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. For the past three-and-a-half months, we have been defending ourselves against assumptions made based on an unsubstantiated report rather than on facts or evidence. Despite our adamant denials, the report ran on February 2, 2008, the day before Super Bowl XLII. That game was the second-most watched program in television history and it is unfortunate that today’s news will not also reach an audience of that size. We hope that with Matt Walsh’s disclosures, everyone will finally believe what we have been saying all along and emphatically stated on the day of the initial report: ‘The suggestion that the New England Patriots recorded the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough on the day before Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002 is absolutely false. Any suggestion to the contrary is untrue.’”

I wonder if the previous two posts are harbingers of something that happened at the Herald within the past hour.
