Guregian on the Gronk/Belichick "beef".

I'd go train with Guerrero right now if I could. 52 years old, and in the best shape of my life. I can only imagine how good those guys could make it.

And the mediotia has another week full.

If Gronk has any itch at this point in time its his contract.

So 53 different trainers all doing different things all in the facility? All getting in each others business. Yes, brilliant idea.

Well at least a few of the star players. The pats training regimen with moses cabrera clearly has not helped Gronk avoid injury.

Gronk had a 1,000 yard season, leading all NFL tight ends in yardage. Brady just won the MVP. Whatever Alex Guerrero does it works. Isn't it about time to drop the beef and just let them do what works for them?
It’s not exactly a perfect record. Both Hightower and Edelman worked with Guerrero and ended up on IR.

Just Bill being Bill

possibly because Jules didn't buy in 100% as evidence in the tom against time episodes.
Or it could be that Guerrero’s methods still won’t stop an ACL areas but are better for nagging types of injuries.

My guess (and it's just that), is that this is about more than just players wanting Guerrero as their trainer. I can't imagine Belichick really caring about that in a vacuum, assuming the players weren't coming into camp out of shape or at the wrong weight/strength level.

To me, and I don't think we'll ever hear the full story, this is about the Guerrero culture, and the fact that the most powerful player on the team is all in on him. It creates an atmosphere where players potentially have to choose between Brady's guy and the team staff, and where his methods might have worked for Gronk (for one year) and Brady, there's no universal training method that's good for everyone IMO. Clearing Guerrero out, and using Gronk as an example (good or bad), might have been more about unifying the expectations on the players more than banishing a guy he didn't like.

I can see where Gronk wouldn't like being called out, but this was his first year as a captain if I'm not mistaken? BB likes to do that, to call out the best players and the leaders, to show that no one is above reproach. Gronk should know that from Brady's example, but it seems he's not as okay with that role as Tom has been.

I think the best solution is to allow the players to pick their own trainer, but as a trade off, their contracts get adjusted to be more incentive based. nothing outlandish, make the numbers equal to what they did the last year they played 16 games while doing the teams S&C.

You don't want to lift weights? fine, you get vet minimum, with incentives for hitting these numbers. If you want to go off script, you should be ready to have to prove that the method you are going for works.

This sounds like a fast way to make players jump to other teams offering them real NFL contracts.

It's a problem if your modern, well-trained, highly-skilled training staff is being ignored in favor of a guy spouting a mixture of good ideas and flat-out nonsense, just because the good ideas seem to be helping a star player. It's tough incorporating Guerrero with the staff if he's badmouthing the others on staff (and I don't know if that is happening or not).

well unfortunately for them they are under contract with the patriots. Follow the teams regime, or gamble on yourself and an alternative method of S&C.

Obviously it would be cool if BB was a bit more flexible, but he'd rather bench his #2 cornerback in the superbowl then let someone be one step out of line.

Well that's where we differ I think: I don't believe that BB's decision to bench Butler was purely done for discipline, or to set an example, or spite, or anything like that. If you're operating from the assumption that he would intentionally make his chances of winning a Super Bowl worse to prove a point, then I could see that making sense. I don't buy that though, I think there were more factors at play.

I don't think a bubble player or even a established but not rich player would like to get in any kind of friction with BB over training regiment.

This is a thing with stars players, I bet Hightower is the next. The thing is, BB doesn't like to give privileges to players and even this being a good thing for them (and the jury is still out) it's still a privilege. So that violates some BB principles and there lies the problem.

Poor Gwonky got his feewing hurt by mean old BB.

What a bunch of crap. Is this a sewing bee or a football team.

Ridiculous thing to say.

If you've never gotten pissed off with your boss then you're probably just wearing brown lipstick.

I don’t understand why Bill just lets the players train with whomever they want. If their performance on the field suffers, then you can ban them from guerrero.
I think you should re-read the thread starter post.

The more Tom E. Curran runs with this stuff, the easier he is to ignore. I used to think a lot of him, but I think he's losing his grip on relevance. The TV gig is good for the ego and the wallet but he is shooting down the path to irrelevance, IMHO.

Baloney. You have no way of knowing if Gronk wouldn't have sustained more injuries without the "training regimen with moses cabrera". Personally I think AG's pliability stuff is useful, but we don't have any way of knowing for sure without a lot of careful research with control groups etc.

Getting pissed off is one thing but writing, "I hate BB," in his journal 4000 times is a bit much. Time to move on with this teenage drama stuff, it is doing harm to my Pats fandom superiority complex.
