Gronk was offensive at a roast of David Ortiz

It seems like all you guys complaining about the concept of a safe space could use a safe space from safe spaces.

Nah. It's just funny watching complete losers with zero social skills (which is why they're offended by everything that moves) get all bent out of shape over a roast.

Id be surprised if Gronk wrote his own jokes for this

Barista by day, social justice warrior by night, porn collection on the weekends. It must be exhausting for the basement dwelling, skinny jean crowd.

My wife and kids are Jewish and they are insulted and disappointed in Gronk. They're insulted that was the best he could come up with and dissapointed in that they would loved to have consulted him with some way better material. Gronk needs to mature... Drop the lame jokes and come up with material that shows some sophistication. LOL

I thought roasts were a forum in which being the most offensive was a secondary goal, if not the primary goal. I can understand if people are arguing that maybe it's time they go away*, but neutering them is a crappy middle ground, IMO.

Regards,
Chris

* Rewatch movies like Delirious or Gung Ho. They are cringeworthy now (if not then). Those wouldn't be made today. I can see a similar fate for roasts.

There are no sophisticated jokes at a roast. Tell your wife and kids that.

Cinematography issues? Poor sound quality? Film decay? What's the problem?
You should see some old Howard Stern shows. Holy crap. He is like Johnny Carson now but in the old days he was ridiculous.

I've never been a Howard Stern fan. I always thought that he came off as trying too hard. Just my take.

I really like Gronk and I've had the pleasure of meeting him and once spending some quality (drinking) time with him. He's a really good guy in my opinion. With that said, I watched the video and I was a little disappointed in his routine. It just didn't seem to be him to me. I've seen him be insultingly funny as hell, without going where he went. I don't think any less of him for it. I love ball-busting and irreverence, but I just think it sounded forced and unnecessarily coarse. Just me...

which particular line went too far?

(i expect roasts to be offensive....but i didnt think he was especially funny)

There were at least several but, once again, it's only my take. I'm not Jewish or black or a member of any minority group so I wasn't personally offended. I agree with you in that he wasn't particularly funny at all and his lines seemed scripted and unoriginal. Gronk is generally one hilarious SOB on his own and none of that struck me as "on his own."

did the NCAAP , ADL or Gloria Allred come out and official comment?

we are living in a hyper sensitive society, and need to be a little less butt hurt over everything, NO Harm was intended, sure it was a bit insensitive, but usually a Roast does hit below the belt and all done in fun

People who are acting offended, I wonder how many roasts they have seen? For roasts you really have to suspend your social justice warrior mentality for a few hours, and turn it down a few notches and just have fun and let people insult each other's gender, past indiscretions, nationalities, religions, races, and go with it. Pretty much nothing is off limits, and that sort of the entire f'ing point of a roast. There are lines that can be crossed, sure, but they are drawn WAYYYY outside the usual bounds you would find in ordinary conversation.

My wife is Jewish and I'm pretty liberal politically, and very sensitive to anti-semitism. In roast context I didn't find his joke offensive, frankly. That said, I'm not some spokesman for Jewish sensitivity lol. In a different context, like if he said that to some random Jewish kid wearing a yarmulke in the stands at a game, that's another thing. If he made that joke about black guys to a guy at a bar around a bunch of white people, it would also be different. Context really does matter.
