The Las Vegas Raiders were close to hiring yet another assistant coach from the New England Patriots.

To play devil’s advocate, I doubt many coaching staffs were raided for top talent as the Pats were during the dynasty.

I wish the NFL provided some system to compensate teams who lose coaches, at least those who move to HC or coordinator positions.

Those guys need to be trained up.

I give him an incomplete thus far. Neither good nor bad. I just haven't seen enough yet to make a decision. Only three games with one being on Thursday and the limited talent to work with.

I'm surprised the media hasn't said that Maye is in a horrible situation in terms of the franchise and roster.

Taking a step back and being objective, this is no different than what we've seen from other bad teams throughout the years the Pats were dominating the NFL. We'd laugh at player x being a bust at QB because of the dysfunctional franchise, but that's the Pats today.

I think if Caley was here, things would be the same. Also I feel like JB is doing his job, just not the least bit exciting, efficient, good, etc etc. He’s a placeholder brought in to do a single job. Wasn’t brought in to win…his jobs to mentor. Sadly the only thing he’s done extremely well is shown how to take shots/sacks/hits and get up. I think with the beatdown he takes this year, he retires next year..

If he’s in the league next year it’s most likely as a backup. I wouldn't mind if he turned into Hoyer in that regard for the Patriots.

How can you possibly evaluate the offense when it can't even get off the ground thanks to a horrendous OL and an absolutely mundane QB? I've seen a few complaints about not running enough PA's or misdirections, but how can a PA succeed when the defense refuses to respect the deep threat?

Play Action works when teams don't respect a deep threat. You fake the run. The D plays the run leaving a guy deep.

Guess we are in a lose/lose situation because the Defense knows we have a QB who can't get it there even with time... because throwing over Ten Yards is asking him for the moon.

What I mean is that when a defense doesn't bother with respecting the deep threat (i.e., they aren't forced to play honest), they leave maybe one high safety to cover, and aim to outnumber at the line, get into the backfield asap, and flood it. That doesn't let a PA develop properly even if the run works.

I know Greg Bedard has his detractors but I trust his analysis more often than not. Today on his weekly 98.5 stint he didn't have much positive to offer on the Pats coaching staff, firing a few salvos at AVP citing poor scheme beyond the personnel woes.

I can't engage with any Bedard material...

The guy has squandered a generational opportunity to brand his segments "Bedard's Regards."

If he can't make that leap I can't trust his judgement in any area.
