I’m not going to go look up who said that Gostkowski would get paid something comparable to Dan Bailey’s $1 million, but consider yourself shamed.
I might be the culprit. To my credit, I didn’t say Gost would end up signing for only $ 1 million but rather compared him to Bailey who has a similar FG accuracy percentage to make the point that it was a buyer’s market this offseason for kickers.
But, I’ll take my lumps where warranted. I’m really surprised Gost didn’t have to take an even a bigger pay cut to return. It will still be interesting to see how real the numbers are in year two. That’s good work by his agent to not panic and stay unsigned and good fortune that Robbie Gould hasn’t signed his franchise tag bringing the 49ers into the picture late as competition and forcing the Patriots to play their hand.
Dan Bailey could have used Gost’s agent.
