Gilmore traded to Carolina

I love BB the coach, the GM not so much

...and like everyone says, he'll end up in Tampa

The 2 scenarios where this makes sense:
#1
All teams contacted refused to give him a contract extension or rework, so he could not get traded amicably anywhere(Plus low offers for the Patiots, Im sure).

Then, based on trust and whatnot, Gilmore asked to be released bc the Pats would not budge about the contract.

#2
His injury is WAY worse than advertised

Otherwise, It is IMPOSSIBLE not to net at least a 7th round on a past DPOY, 2 years from his award
#3
Gilmore was a distraction management chose to finally eliminate
#4
Emergency need for roster spots

Do you think if we could have gotten something for him we wouldn't have traded him? Did Bill say, hmm, what should I do, get a 4th Round pick for him or just release him and get nothing? The answer is there was no team interested in trading for him...why trade for him when he's not willing to take a discount...per Schefter....he is not taking a discount, a team is going to have to pay him.
No one is offering anything? At all? Multiple reports coming out now that he's healthy. Who knows how true that is and obviously they couldn't get what they wanted but flat out release him? I guess we aren't in the hunt this year so it doesn't really matter if he walks over to KC.

I don't know man. I know what you mean because it's Bill but with a QB on a rookie contract can't he afford to keep one of his own or does he think he's not that great?
I'm half joking but it just wouldn't surpise me is all lol

Weird, Bills been raving this whole time how Gilmore has been working with defensive players on watching film and what not. Doesn’t sound like a distraction but who knows.

I'm guessing Tampa regrets signing Richard Sherman now...

I don't buy the 'potential first round trade' thing for him - that never seemed realistic.

I can only assume that they couldn't get *anything* for him that would make it make more sense than cutting him?!

Wow. Uhh bit unexpected. And makes the incredibly obvious fake BS from Mike Reiss in the summer that there was no problem funnier.

They paid market price for Gilmore when he was Jackson's age. If they believe in JC, no reason they wouldn't do it again.

I think part of this was done with the knowledge that Jackson is an UFA after this season. He, Mills, Jones, and Wade are all roughly the same age- that's potentially our new DB squad. Gilmore is the old man out.

it's called trying to generate trade value.........didn't work

Sherman cost nothing but they actually had nothing in cap space as well. I don't see how they squeeze him in if he's serious about a multiyear big deal. I'm not sure what KC's cap situation is but they might have issues too. I wonder if he's happy going to like the Jets for a contract. Not that there's anything wrong with that if he is.

Maybe to release cap space to bring another player(s) in?

I mean, it is SUPREMELY weird that they couldn't get something for him. But I haven't seen an argument yet for why Bill would turn a trade down for no reason, so I have to believe there were no real offers (or teams couldn't get him to agree to a contract extension). Alternatively, if the trade offer was significantly low (like a conditional 7th), Bill might have valued the reputation hit more of trading a player for peanuts rather than releasing him and letting him choose his destination. Otherwise I'm still stumped.

There are at least 10 teams that could take on his contract...Carolina is one that comes to mind as they lost Jaycee Horn for a while.

The issue guys and ladies, is not trading Gilly (and Thuney) last year at 2-5. Today, this is a great move.
