Giardi: Latest on Judon - Two sides remain "far, far, far apart"

He didn't get extended, but he got more of his guaranteed money upfront in 2023. He's still underpaid and has outplayed his contract since his first year in 2021. I remember his rumored asking price was $20M per year which I thought would've been a massive overpay. He has lived up to that rumored asking price.
Exactly. He’s in the last year of his contract, with a risk that his value will decline just because of his age even if he outperforms again.

The team doesn’t want to extend him now, so they are missing the chance to defuse this situation. Apparently they’re not even negotiating.

I think trading is the best move. I wonder what we could get for him. My initial thought was we could get a decent pick since his salary is low, but the reality is the team will have to trade for him and sign him too. So we’re probably not talking too much in return
Unless a true contender sees him as worth giving up a 2nd round pick to either push their defense over the top, or make an already dominant defense even more formidable.

Maybe SF or KC could throw a 4th round pick to make a step forward another SB, other than that, I think teams are not going any higher, probably a 5th round pick at this point in the year since they are going to pay him anyway after the trade.

This is a good test for Mayo and Eliot. We don't have all the information but they may have to cave and that isn't going to look good, the alternative is kick his ass and see how the cards will unfold. He's 32, he's not going to play more than 2 years at an elite level.

Gotta trade him now for whatever you can get. Should have done it during the draft.

Seems the front office is doing their best to shoot themselves in the foot by not maximizing his trade value, nor negotiating with him at all.

Yeah it’s like they decided “hey what if we try the ostrich approach and do nothing”

They’re gonna show him who’s boss.

I figure it’s Jonathan’s MBA training assigning a value and not budging.

I think they thought Mayo’s player friendly style would encourage him to show up even if he wanted more money. That didn’t work.

I think they misread the situation. The front office did not comprehend how important he feels it is. He's a passionate competitor on the field, that personality trait won’t change in negotiating his contract. I read that Judon presented a draft contract he prepared himself, so it’s from his heart, and they didn’t even respond. They’re trying to hold a hard line without budging, and that strategy is clearly not working.

I expect they’re now working the phones trying to find trade interest. I doubt they’ll find any. So in a few days we’ll see if they’ll try to salvage something or not. I hope they’ll at least engage in negotiations, as it seems they’ve not yet done so.

Better get used to it.

Mayo is going to be the NE HC for a long time.
I don't think so, especially if Maye turns out to be a bust. Bob doesn't like looking bad, so he'll throw Mayo under the bus in two years if the team keeps trending downward which is very likely.

SF likes collecting edge players, so that could be a team interested. And I believe they are getting extremely anxious to win a Super Bowl as that roster is likely to change very soon. Judon going to KC would be SF's worst nightmare.

Signing the players they did this offseason and then not even responding to Judon sends a terrible message as an organization.

Jonathan’s train8ng at Bain and his Harvard MBA probably did not emphasize empathy.

On guy on WEEI that I really like is gresh.. but he's a mayo hater.. and he uses **** like this to justify his unfair old man minded takes. Players have all the opportunities at thier fingertips to communicate these days.. **** like this happens in EVERY single organization in sports. What yoi can see is that the players have still stayed thr course and haven't deviated from camp and what they are trying to accomplish. They all support judon however they aren't letting it be a distraction. The media is making it worse.
Well, I mean, Judon was the one sitting on a garbage can and then getting in an argument with the head coach and GM in full view of the media. What do you want them to do? Not report it?

With yesterday's scene it seems like this is an increasing issue. Either move him or pay him.
Agree. Mayo is a new coach and can't have the optics of one of the leaders undermining him. Very immature way of handling it like that in public.

Mayo better not be weak with this either or it could sink him.

What if they’ve tried to trade and no takers? I know what yesterday looked like but we really have no idea what was said…could’ve been yapping back and forth about playing madden ffs…unless I missed something…
If they can't trade him, cut him. Can't have optics of him undermining his rookie coach.

BB would not have approached him in front of the media. He would have sent someone else over if he even had a problem with him hanging out.

This whole thing is stupid.
Yeah Mayo can't be too casual with optics like this. It is one thing to be player friendly and I am sure he is much more understanding as a former player but he can't underestimate the importance of the image of the HC.

ALL NFL teams go through things like this.. what Chris Jones did Last year in KC was a nightmare clown show. This has happened plenty before in Foxboro... the difference is social media covers every aspect if players lives. Practice is live streamed these days.. and everything is critiqued. However to you point why isn't he traded?
No the difference is you don't show up your coach and act out like that on the field over an off the field business decision.

You want to hold out? Fine. You want to talk **** through media and agent? Fine. You just can't think you can undermine the coach and become a distraction on the practice field.

This will simply show the other players that the coach does not need to be respected and a rookie coach can't have that.

I am as pro players as it gets too.

Trade the beast.

Not if he screws up badly.

Robert doesn’t have time to be patient.
The excuses for not winning are stacking up and its only July.

Jonathan Kraft will taking over in the next 3 - 4 years anyway.
