First Meaningless 2025 Mock

I have a new favourite top 3 picks for a mock although it either requires a trade back to acquire a second 2nd or a trade up from 69. So, in this instance, Carter is on the board at 4 and the Panthers trade up from 8, giving us 57 and 114 for the privilege. This mock was done on NFL Mock Draft Database.

8 Will Campbell, OT, LSU

This could just as easily be Membou. My gut says we go with Campbell.

38. Treveyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

I think Vrabel a) wants to add a complimentary RB and B) more pace to the offense. Treveyon fits both criteria comfortably. Henderson would be RB1b to Stevenson's RB1a. In other words, I don't think Henderson is an RB2. He has 1 career fumble and is an excellent pass blocker.

57. Jack Bech, WR, TCU

I, and Hayden Winks, compare Bech to Chris Godwin. Bech provides the high percentage receiver Vrabel has talked about wanting. As a freshman at LSU he beat Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas and our own Boutte for receptions suggesting he'd be comfortable playing well in our offense as a rookie. This pick could just as easily be Jayden Higgins. Bech is not a burner but that is to come.

69. Ozzy Trapilo, OT, Boston College

He'll start at swing tackle with the obvious future move to RT when Morgan Moses leaves. This also allows Caedan Wallace to compete for a guard position where he might be better suited. If Membou had been the pick, I'd have gone with Charles Grant here.

77. Kyle Williams, WR, Washington State

You knew that was coming didn't you? Here's the pace and explosion I promised to compliment the Bech pick.

106. Femi Oladejo, EDGE, UCLA

This pick could just as easily have been Que Robinson but we've met with Oladejo so he gets the nod here.

114. Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State

Runs 4.35, is strong in run support and blitzes. Ideal competition for Marcus Jones and can also play outside so provides backup there too.

144. Jamaree Caldwell, DT, Oregon

He's a 340lb DT with the athleticism and effort to chase runners down from sideline to sideline. Arguably the best of the day 3 run-stuffing defenders. Tonga's backup in year one and replacement thereafter.

171. Jackson Hawes, TE, Georgia Tech

If you think your LT might struggle at times, why not get an elite run blocker to help him out?

220. Jake Majors, C, Texas

Adding more competition to the interior of the OL, Majors is a legit captain of the OL type.

238. Tommy Mellott, QB, Montana State

Essay incoming.

He'll only be known to those of you who have ventured into the QB thread (h/t to @bakes781 on this one). Mellott is an undersized QB at only 6' but he has elite athleticism for the position. His 41" VJ at his pro day would have broken the combine record for QBs and, on top of that, he ran a 4.39 forty and a sub 7 second 3-cone. He's not going to be the long-term answer at backup QB but can provide a 3rd body for pre-season. Where he gets interesting is that he is being viewed as a potential switcher to WR and PR. Sound familiar? Well, he is working with JE on making that switch apparently.

I shall leave you with some quotes about Mellott from Bruce Feldman''s freaks list: "Smartest QB I have ever been around", "Smartest human alive", "Will be president of United States", "Every father wants their daughter to date him. Every mother wants to adopt him". At least on the president thing, he can't do that until he's 35 so at least we'll get a good decade out of him.

PFN is tough on trades. I had to include 77 just to get 57

As I have somewhat become obsessed with these meaningless drafts, here is one I really like.. the Offense would be completely different.. assume that Vrabel would like to recreate his O from Tennessee...

No Trade backs. Just up. No 2026 capital was used for moving around.

All great fits. Short and Sweet. Later guys have tons up upside like they should. Id gladly settle for something like this. Go get your guys.

Hits the three biggest needs with potential starters and everyone knows how I feel about Logan Brown. Nice job.

And another with a single trade back with Seattle to 18. That's my dream trade back spot. Their 18, and two seconds with a 2026 2nd on top of it would be great return IMO. I could see Simmons falling. Doesn't get much better for me here.

I don't see Simmons falling to the 2nd.

It's good but I think you can get equivalent of Egbuka (by taking Noel or Bech) and still get what you got (plus picks) with no trades.

First update of the week from PFN... Without Multiple trade-downs from #4, the re-build of the OL & WR rooms will not be complete until at least next year, much to the detriment of our young & affordable QB...

21. Josh Simmons OT Ohio State
38. TreVeyon Henderson RB Ohio State - complement/competition for Mister Fumbly Fingers & his bloated contract
56. Jayden Higgins WR Iowa State
69. Jack Bech WR TCU
77. Anthony Belton OT NC State - 5 offensive players in the first 5 picks: this is the New Way

83. Kyle Kennard EDGE South Carolina - Bradyn Swinson was taken at #60
106. Billy Bowman S Oklahoma - we STILL need a Devin McCourty replacement
119. Danny Stutsman LB Oklahoma
122. Jordan Phillips DT Maryland - Didn't take Kenny Grant at 38 this time, and was hoping that Alfred Collins fell to 77

144. Charles Grant OT William & Mary - Left Tackle of the Present if Simmons isn't ready; and Left GUARD of the Future?
151. Jack Sawyer EDGE Ohio State - PFN still has him at #184, still a late 2nd-rounder everywhere else
165. Zah Frazier CB UTSA - another Tariq Woolen?

185. Mitchell Evans TE Notre Dame - missed both Arroyo & Ferguson during the 3rd round
195. Willie Lampkin OG North Carolina
202. LeQuint Allen RB Syracuse

211. Cody Simon LB Ohio State - joins Sawyer on defense and Simmons & Henderson on offense from the Ohio State connection
217. Caleb Ransaw CB Tulane
229. Chimere Dike WR Florida - sorry Efton, this dude's my new 7th-round Slot cheat code; way under-valued by PFN

With the recent visits of Shemar Stewart and Nic Scourton, how do we feel about trading up into the back half of round one for either one. I've looked through a number of mocks and Stewart's range looks to be from 10 down to the early 20s. But there are mocks where he falls into tradeable range; Bruce Feldman had him at 31 for example. Would something like this work?

4 - Will Campbell or Armand Membou

Trade up to 24 with 38 & 77

24 - Shemar Stewart or Nic Scourton

69 - Kyle Williams or Jaylin Noel

Day 3 WR - Pat Bryant, Isaac Teslaa or Dont'e Thornton (looking for a bigger X)

Day 3 RB - Brashard Smith or The Quint.

I realise that just because someone visits that doesn't mean they're being targeted, I just wanted to explore what it might mean.

Scourton yes. Your little binkie buddy, no. I know the athletic upside... I can't ignore the lack of production. He looks like a high end bust in-waiting to me. Sorry my man. When he gets to be an all-pro and DROY you can tell me you told me so.

Will do

I do get the concern about Stewart, I really do, which is why I went off the idea of drafting him so early. But in the backend of the first? That's much easier for me to get comfortable with.
