First Meaningless 2025 Mock

Another meaningless draft, this time Jeanty was available.. not sure how I could pass on him with lead to an almost complete revamping of or offense...
7.
Ashton Jeanty RB Boise State

38.
Aireontae Ersery OT Minnesota
42.
Tre Harris WR Ole Miss

69.
Marcus Mbow OT Purdue
81.
Elic Ayomanor WR Stanford

106.
Dylan FairchildOG Georgia
144.
J.J. Pegues DT Ole Miss
153.
Garrett Dellinger OG LSU

171.
Seth McLaughlin OC Ohio State
220.
Elijah Williams EDGE Morgan State
It works well although my one thought is that you've drafted two X's in Harris and Ayomanor. Maybe adding some speed instead of one of those WRs might be an option.

When I trade back am often faced with the choice of Jeanty, Warren or MacMillan.. which are all interesting choices, but any of them might make the offense look completely different. Jeanty is appealing as he would make our offense somewhat different than we are used to..
OTOH MacMillan or Warren would also immensely help this offense as well.. what a quandary in a make believe world.

I do find the idea of a run heavy play action style offense appealing.

Unless you plan for the future rather than having high expectations for 2025 and draft Charles Grant or they’ve had good feedback on Ozzy switching, there’s a drop off after Conerly.
There are still veterans that could be signed to plug the LT hole until 2026. Not ideal for 2025, but it might be better in the long term than using 2 draft picks this year for a late LT rookie candidate.

BPA in R2 and R3 this year plus R1 LT next year might be better that using R2 and R3 picks this year to trade up for an end of the run LT.

Are you assuming Hunter and Carter are on the board? If they're not, I think it's almost certain Campbell or Membou are the pick. That doesn't preclude a R1 LT next year because they both can switch to LG and RT respectively and that's where I agree with you. Fill out the offensive roster this year at WR/RB/iOL leaving us free to target a R1 LT next year should Campbell or Membou not be on the path to pro-bowl LT. And to fill out the roster, we need to keep our picks.

Or trade down to #12, add a 2nd, and get a top of the run LT. Maybe not Campbell or Membou, but is there a big drop off in LT considering we pick up a 2nd to add Kenneth Grant.

Trapilo had a 8.9 RAS score and impressed at RT and LT at the Senior bowl. Trade to #12, and then pick Jeanty, Trapilo, and Grant for instance. Hard to pass on that. Add another LT in 2026. Can't fill all the holes in one year.

I just don’t foresee a trade down as likely. I may be wrong but I prefer to work on the theory that we won’t get it. I feel Cambell’s character makes him the favourite for the 4 pick - changing the character has been such a big deal for Vrabel this offseason.

Could be. I didn't think Campbell's tape against Kennard was a #4 pick. Not even close IMO.

They definitely picked the wrong year to be in desperate need at LT.

But it is what is. So they should double dip at the position to ensure that they've increased their odds off developing someone. They also need to select at least 1 IOL.

There are certainly questionable moments on his tape but I don't think that will matter to Vrabel & Marrone who are probably betting on coaching them out of him. And as you say, see how he goes at LT this year and if it's not working out, go R1 LT next.

I would rather take Membou. Worse case Campbell is a LG. Worse case Membou is a RT. I prefer taking a tackle over a guard.

Agreed but I'm afraid they will go the other way.

Probably better to trade down if possible and take the one that is left at #9 or 12. Neither is a #4 IMO.

We’re in year two of a three-year rebuild. Gotta hope a couple of last year’s rookies step up if needed. Both lines need to be rebuilt. Under the scenario below, make Gus Hartwig, the center out of Purdue, a priority free agent.

Seriously if they take another QB lol

If Boy Wonder is available at 4. Better hope Ozzy makes it at LT this year. Rolli g out with VD Lowe doesn’t sound healthy for the QB

Loveland is Hernandez without the tats and killing. CG will develop into a quality LT methinks. Marks is our new Sweetfeet third down back.
I liked this one a lot better

Am an ND fan, could never figure out all the hype about Leonard.. he ran a lot and that is why they like him, but he will get killed in the NFL.. lousy passer raging 78.7.
Draft is interesting, heavy on the D.. assume Hunter will be a WR.

I have a new favourite top 3 picks for a mock although it either requires a trade back to acquire a second 2nd or a trade up from 69. So, in this instance, Carter is on the board at 4 and the Panthers trade up from 8, giving us 57 and 114 for the privilege. This mock was done on NFL Mock Draft Database.

8 Will Campbell, OT, LSU

This could just as easily be Membou. My gut says we go with Campbell.

38. Treveyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

I think Vrabel a) wants to add a complimentary RB and B) more pace to the offense. Treveyon fits both criteria comfortably. Henderson would be RB1b to Stevenson's RB1a. In other words, I don't think Henderson is an RB2. He has 1 career fumble and is an excellent pass blocker.

57. Jack Bech, WR, TCU

I, and Hayden Winks, compare Bech to Chris Godwin. Bech provides the high percentage receiver Vrabel has talked about wanting. As a freshman at LSU he beat Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas and our own Boutte for receptions suggesting he'd be comfortable playing well in our offense as a rookie. This pick could just as easily be Jayden Higgins. Bech is not a burner but that is to come.

69. Ozzy Trapilo, OT, Boston College

He'll start at swing tackle with the obvious future move to RT when Morgan Moses leaves. This also allows Caedan Wallace to compete for a guard position where he might be better suited. If Membou had been the pick, I'd have gone with Charles Grant here.

77. Kyle Williams, WR, Washington State

You knew that was coming didn't you? Here's the pace and explosion I promised to compliment the Bech pick.

106. Femi Oladejo, EDGE, UCLA

This pick could just as easily have been Que Robinson but we've met with Oladejo so he gets the nod here.

114. Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State

Runs 4.35, is strong in run support and blitzes. Ideal competition for Marcus Jones and can also play outside so provides backup there too.

144. Jamaree Caldwell, DT, Oregon

He's a 340lb DT with the athleticism and effort to chase runners down from sideline to sideline. Arguably the best of the day 3 run-stuffing defenders. Tonga's backup in year one and replacement thereafter.

171. Jackson Hawes, TE, Georgia Tech

If you think your LT might struggle at times, why not get an elite run blocker to help him out?

220. Jake Majors, C, Texas

Adding more competition to the interior of the OL, Majors is a legit captain of the OL type.

238. Tommy Mellott, QB, Montana State

Essay incoming.

He'll only be known to those of you who have ventured into the QB thread (h/t to @bakes781 on this one). Mellott is an undersized QB at only 6' but he has elite athleticism for the position. His 41" VJ at his pro day would have broken the combine record for QBs and, on top of that, he ran a 4.39 forty and a sub 7 second 3-cone. He's not going to be the long-term answer at backup QB but can provide a 3rd body for pre-season. Where he gets interesting is that he is being viewed as a potential switcher to WR and PR. Sound familiar? Well, he is working with JE on making that switch apparently.

I shall leave you with some quotes about Mellott from Bruce Feldman''s freaks list: "Smartest QB I have ever been around", "Smartest human alive", "Will be president of United States", "Every father wants their daughter to date him. Every mother wants to adopt him". At least on the president thing, he can't do that until he's 35 so at least we'll get a good decade out of him.
