First Female to Tryout for NFL

Oh, OK. Here's a similarly plausible fantasy-based scenario (for reasons of comparison): If George Blanda rises from the grave and asks for a tryout, should he be allowed to?

I've no idea what you're referring to here.

That's reasonable self advice.

You're right. The NFL must write a rule preventing George Blanda, who's currently at the combine as far as I can tell, from ever joining the NFL. After all not having rules written to prohibit all the things that can never happen is just a level of dishonesty I can't possibly suffer through anymore.

We DO NOT have female fighters.
We DO NOT have strong female athletes.
We DO NOT have female warriors.
We DO NOT have "tough" female politicians at the highest levels.
We DO NOT have female action heroes in fiction.

I just saw this, having missed it before for whatever reason. But before I respond -- are you seriously saying that Ronda Rousey doesn't exist, that the Williams sisters don't exist, that women don't serve in combat roles in the military, that Hillary Clinton doesn't exist, or that Tomb Raider doesn't exist (as a work of fiction)?

she doesn't say this whatsoever.

:frusty::frusty::frusty:

She is asked what qualifies her to tryout for the NFL. She says she has played soccer all her life and has kicked long field goals (from a tee). She makes no reference to having played organized football.

She goes on to state that she hopes to contribute greatly to the NFL for years go come. She is asked what she means by this. She doesn't talk about kicking field goals and winning games. Instead, she replies by shilling for her fledgling video game concept involving virtual instruction. This woman is not qualified or passionately driven to make an NFL roster; she IS driven to sell video games. If you don't get that from the interview, your powers of discernment are sorely lacking.

28-year-old Lauren Silberman played club soccer at Wisconsin and holds a Master's from MIT - not exactly the resume you'd expect from an NFL prospect, but Silberman sees things differently.

While at MIT, Silberman wrote her thesis on how sports video games can help athletes improve their performance. She later started her own company, Double Play, which attempts to take her theory to the professional world.

Based on that theory and her soccer experience, Silberman will be the first woman to try out for the NFL. She wasn't invited to the regular NFL Combine due to her limited experience, but Silberman is attending 1 of 10 regional scouting combines with hopes of attracting the attention of an NFL team.

Last year, 87 players that attended regional combines made NFL rosters, including star Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein. It can be done, but Silberman faces a major uphill climb.

Are you seriously this unable to grasp simple points? Try re-reading my post and then think before you post in reply.

Furthermore, given that I'm on record as saying that it should be up to the leagues to decide who they wish to let play,

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/10/1009953-first-female-tryout-nfl-page4.html#post3379551

perhaps you should go back to the beginning of the thread and start reading again, because you don't seem to be able to grasp what I'm saying here. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'm assuming you just jumped into the thread without bothering to read it first.

I overstated male-vs-female competition in the Olympics, I think. Equestrian is the only event I can identify where men now compete against women. Sailing has been segregated by sex since 1988 or 1992 or something, and I'm not aware of any women who medalled before the split.

But for me, what's important is to finally have a chance to fulfill my dreams by trying out to play in the world's most competitive football league.

You can bang your head against the wall all you want, but insisting that other people are making statements they aren't because you think it suits your nonsensical argument isn't a "power of discernment" it's just a weak tactic. You also didn't even absorb what she was saying at all, since her video game concept hinges on her being successful because of it.

And nobody cares if she has a real chance anyway, because for everyone else but you the discussion is about whether she should be allowed to not whether she is likely to.

I've come 180 degrees from my previous position....played women's club soccer, then use MIT degree to produce a video game and form a company?...*PRESTO!*...why not a roster on an NFL team?...gee whiz, what's the problem...I finally understand...THIS is what the NFL has always lacked...why couldn't I see it??? must be because I'm the troglodytic subhuman I've been called in this thread....

However, I vow to be a changed man!!! Lauren has show me the way!!!! I'm off to the Lingerie League Combine where I intend to try out for the position of team body servant and man toy for the Los Angeles Temptation....these girls play rough but I think I have what it takes to "stick" around...

Obviously not, given that you clearly didn't comprehend what you read.

That assumes you wrote something worth reading.

It was a bunch of factually incorrect statements, which may or may not have been ironically in the service of some point which may or may not have made some smidgeon of sense.

It was a waste of my attention.

OMG, you cannot be serious! Her whole mission is bringing public ATTENTION to her video game idea! The "tryout" is just a ploy enabling her to do so, and a cleverly successful one at that. Do you process everything you read/hear at face value only? My advice to you is stay inside on April 1 -- preferably with the doors locked.

And nobody cares if she has a real chance anyway, because for everyone else but you the discussion is about whether she should be allowed to not whether she is likely to.

No, the discussion is not about her alone, but the philosophy/concept/practice, etc., behind women becoming involved with men's professional sports.

It's becoming clear to me that you just don't get it, stubbornly refuse to get it, and never will get it.

Again, either you clearly either didn't actually read it or your reading comprehension sucks.

Those are indeed two of the main possibilities, once we've ruled out there being anything wrong with the post itself.

Given that you claimed a "bunch of factually incorrect statements" when such was clearly not the case, it's obviously a matter of you not understanding the sentence that frames the list you posted out of context.

So, it's really not about possibilities here. It is what it is. You didn't understand the post*. That's really no surprise, since you don't understand the issue in general.

*I guess an alternate possibility would be that you're trolling, but you'd have gone a long way looking foolish if that were the case.

These little zingers you keep throwing in, are you under the impression that they're making you look smart? I really don't get it. "I disagree with you, welcome to April fool's day *****!" It just makes you look childish and out of your depth tbh.

I disagree that she is doing this as somekind of gimmick to pump up her video game concept which is that video games can improve athletic performance. That argument doesn't make much sense, since she wouldn't believe in her idea to start with if she didn't think she could compete, but more importantly it's not relevant to what we're discussing.

All you've done is pivot from "women shouldn't be allowed to participate" to "there should be a rule because it's impossible" to "this woman isn't seriously a contender to be in the NFL." Which is something that nobody has argued at all.

If you finish by saying that it's not about her but the philosophy or concept of women participating why have you tried to shift the discussion towards what her secret and nefarious motives are? I mean I started by saying she's irrelevant to the discussion and now you've said the same and accused me of not getting it. :bricks:

The fact that instead of elaborating on his vague and condescending declarations he's done nothing but insult you should be a pretty good clue that he's not really in this for the discussion. I wouldn't waste your time if i were you, the best you'll get is that he'll run off with his tail between his legs and put you on ignore.

Deus, I do think we've wrung every bit of reason out of this issue and these kids are just obstinately stirring the pot. They aren't interested in learning anything.

I can't decide what's douchier, Deus Irae or the posters that copy his terrible posting style when they happen to agree with him

Deus, I do think we've wrung every bit of reason out of this issue and these kids are just obstinately stirring the pot. They aren't interested in learning anything.

But the amusement level is impressive. You're going back and forth with someone I've got on ignore, and Fencer is arguing that I'm wrong for arguing that

We DO NOT have female fighters.
We DO NOT have strong female athletes.
We DO NOT have female warriors.
We DO NOT have "tough" female politicians at the highest levels.

and

We DO NOT have female action heroes in fiction.

when I wasn't arguing that at all. So, I'm basically translating your posts in light of what they must be responding to, dealing with someone who can't understand what I've posted, and getting a kick out of Joker's magnificent use of hyperbole.

It's a pretty amusing way to spend some time when you're stuck at home because you're sick. All that's needed now is for Haley to return and talk more about how P.C. police don't exist, just days after the video of the USDA conference where the guy is actively training people to speak politically correct phrases hit the internet.
