Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

I love this move. From a PR perspective, it couldn't be better for NE. Week 2 would have just been another tired old rehash of Spygate, but instead it will be Favre Does Manhattan!
You're right about that and it makes the game a little bigger, our first four are really bad on paper.

Can't wait to see the escalator in the trade clause. Hopefully they lose a first with this Rent-a-Favre gambit.
Hopefully not - Shefter says they only give up a #1 if they go to the SB.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Mangina will be out of the NFL for good after the jets miss the playoffs again, the jets are desparately trying to win now and thats just not possible being in the same division as the Patriots.

Just saw the comps ... well, hopefully they go 10-6, make the playoffs and have an early exit.

End of the day, the division just got a whole lot more interesting, and everybody loves drama.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Anyone know Favre's salary/cap hit for this year and how much space NJ has left?

Yeah, I'd be good with the Jets having a latter half #1 and no #2 while the Patriots have a very low #1 and two #2s.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Here come the homers. Try to say anything that is not "ball washing" the pats, and you come out in droves. Farve makes the jets a better team. They have a good defense, the improved their line, they have a good running game, and now they have a QB who can throw the ball.Did I say I loved the jets? All i said was that they got a lot better, and there is some reason for concern. Put the pom poms down and be objective.

You tell my why the jets are better off without Farve?

Because he doesn't know their offense or their coaches or their personnel or their conference and he didn't really ever want to have to. Hell, he's only good one out of three years when he spends the whole off season and countless hours in season actually learning the offense he's been running for years and studying the defenses he's been facing for years. But after doing that once he'd had enough. So what you will now see from the JETS is 23 other guys learning to improvise to accommodate a legendary dinosaur who turns 39 in October. And when he's gone, it will take them a decade to unlearn all the bad habits he teaches them.

Brett has gotten by for some time being a big fish with a big arm in a small pond - the hapless NFC. Bledsoe used to put up big numbers too. Didn't mean anything, either. All arm no brains.

This has less to do with winning than marketing PSL's...

I can see Woody cashing out next year.

It looks like they have a little over $6.8 million in cap space.

But what difference does it make? If they go over the cap, Lord Goodell will make sure that no one knows. I would not put it past that scumbag.
He is afterall, an Ex-Jet employee.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Two best quarterbacks ever to play in the same division at the same time?

Manning and Brady played together in the same division in 2001, and both of them are better than Favre ever was.

Kelly and Marino, Elway and Montana during Montana's brief stint with the Chiefs... all those guys were better than Favre.

I think this makes the Jets an 8-8 team. I don't think they're as good as the Bills, Favre or no, and they're definitely no match for the Patriots.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

This improves the Jets but, in my opinion, and I think most would agree, they still need the Patriots to have a bad day in order to win a game.

It doesn't "put them over the top" and will probably be a one year rental. Favre doesn't mentor and Favre doesn't work his ass off. Kellen Clemens certainly doesn't look to have any future now.

On top of that, I think Favre blows his wad pre-game against teams with formidable defenses.

It's favre too early to say this is good or bad, but it has boom or bust potential and I think several things have to fall perfectly for it to be a good situation for either party. We'll see.

I meant better at the time.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

According to John Clayton:

The last place Brett Favre wanted to be was with the New York Jets, but that's where he finds himself today.

After flexing his muscles and testing the will of the Packers' organization, Favre agreed to a trade with the Jets after hoping to stay with the Packers or go to the Vikings or Bucs. Throughout most of his career, Favre lived the life of a player who thought of going to Super Bowls. By going to the Jets, he can only think of wild-card playoffs.

Favre alone isn't going to cut the gap between the Jets and the New England Patriots. The Patriots have Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Bill Belichick, a great team and the easiest schedule in the league. Favre only has the satisfaction that he's out of Green Bay.

Given that reality, this trade is a thumbs down.

Jets fans have to be excited because now they no longer have to worry about Chad Pennington's weak arm or the potential and inconsistencies of Kellen Clemens. Favre comes to down with the potential of a 4,000-yard season and better than a 63 percent throwing accuracy.

But if heart wasn't into competing against Aaron Rodgers for his starting job in Green Bay, how is he going to be playing second fiddle to Brady in the AFC East? Mike McCarthy had it right on Tuesday. He said Favre was in a tough place.

To come out of retirement and have only thoughts of a wild-card has to be disappointing to Favre. True, he tested the will of the Packers' organization and lost. He thought he was big enough to get his release. He wasn't. He thought he could force a trade to the Vikings. He couldn't.

Tired and mentally exhausted from his Green Bay visit, he agreed to listen to going to Tampa Bay or the Jets. He preferred the Vikings. The Packers said no and traded him out of the conference.

The Packers beat down their icon. They've moved on to Aaron Rodgers. Favre only agreed to the trade because he knew it was time to get in camp and train for the regular season.

Going to the Jets is a downer to him, a thumbs downer.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Go to New York Brett and take the MEDIA with you. We Pats fans want to enjoy our football season without those bastards following our team around all the time. Now they can reek havoc on the Jets all season. We've had our fair share of it. It's somebody else's turn now.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Great, that means the Jets are going 14-2 on the road to a SB

Clayton should take a good look at that Packers schedule. The biggest losers could very well be Thomson and McCarthy.

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

Man, I'm no football expert, but I don't see this ending well for Favre and the Jets. I really don't agree with Favre's whole I'm retiring but now I'm back, he didn't give the Packers much choice with his crazy decisions.

Hopefully he does the same exact thing next year too

Re: Fox Sports: Favre to Jets

This team will go 8-8 at best, with the following being a result of the season...

-Mangini being fired. (A year too late)
-Loss of a 3rd round draft pick.
-Getting a middle of the 1st round draft pick, thus eliminating them from getting a sure shot QB for the future once again.

They'll be back to a new head coach and unproven QB next season and no one should be expecting Farve to be anywhere near his '07 form being on a team that is inferior the Packers in every single aspect.

Top it off with Pennington going to Minnesota and leading them to an NFCCG or something and I'll be happy for years.
