Extend Newton

The Pats didn’t really let brady walk brady chose to walk. Yes if a bidding war had occurred the patriots were not going all in on a 43 year old QB, but they would have given him the same contract Tampa did.
So any conclusions of what their logic was in him leaving are not real.
All they had to do was give him that contract a year ago instead of non guaranteed deals. Or how about the year before where they jacked him with an incentive filled deal after he was league MVP. Or offer him a 3 year deal the year prior after that incredible Superbowl win. Everyone keeps saying "40, 41, 42, 43" and I get it but they nickel and dimed him and refused to commit to him for years. That's why he's gone.

They would have given him the same contract Tampa did. Why do you assume it was the only the team that wouldn’t agree to a deal last year. It’s pretty clear he wanted to leave.

The Patriots did not offer him a 2 year $50 mil fully guaranteed deal. Bill offered him to come back on a one year deal for less then what he is making the year prior.

Guaranteed contract is what he wanted and BB, for all his greatness, couldn't get passed his age or assumed Brady would just accept his terms. No way he wanted Brady to walk. Look at Stidham. He's garbage. We are lucky we got Cam and if he finishes the season strong I hope BB doesn't try to nickel and dime him too.

There better be a great QB prospect out there for us if we don’t extend Cam.

No. Tanking is for losers. Scout and find a solid QB. There are plenty of franchise QBs not taken in the top 10.
Look at all the starting QB’s in the league.

Rodgers- first round

Brees early 2nd

Cam first overall

Ryan first overall

Ben first round 11th overall

Jackson end of 1st round

Burrow 1st overall

Mayfield 1st overall

Darnold 3rd overall

Allen 1st round top 10

Watson 12th overall

Rivers 1st rounder

Tannehill 8th overall

Mahomes 1st rounder

Herbert 1st rounder

Carr 2nd rounder 36th overall

Lock 2nd rounder 42nd overall

Jimmy G 2nd rounder

Goff 1st overall

Murray 1st overall

Stafford 1st overall

Trubisky 1st rounder

Wentz 1st rounder

Jones 6th overall

Smith/Haskins- both first rounders

Then you have as exceptions

-Cousins who is a 4th rounder
-Fitz who is holding a spot for Tua who is a 1st rounder
-Brady who is a 6th round biggest steak ever
-Wilson who is a 3rd rounder
-Dak Prescott

So there are 4 quality starters that are lower draft picks

It’s not that simple

He didn’t have a choice in brady walking. That’s my point. Brady walked because brady wanted to walk.

So a week in which Stidham got no practice reps, no game plan for him, and had to travel across the country on game day tells you Stidham sucks?

If anything the fact that the Patriots were able to hang with the Chiefs under such conditions with Brian Hoyer as QB should tell you that paying Newton $30m a year isn't worth it.

That's a Bill O'Brien move.
Do you understand that our defense just played the best game against what has been the best offense in football over the last two years and we lost simply because our QB’s made bad decisions and basic mistakes. Like if we just had a generic game manager like a Tyrol Taylor we have a real shot at taking a win here.

That performance isn’t happening ever week. You have a QB you pay the QB

Yet none of those teams tanked and none of the first overalls have won a Sb.
In fact the non first rounders have won 8 and the first rounders have won 4.

None of those teams tanked and I didn't say it was simple. I said we have to scout the next guy and get him. If that means bundling picks to go get him then we need to do it. This is the most important position and the Patriots are the best franchise in football.

We don’t know what was offered. It’s speculation but pretty much brady didn’t listen and wanted to leave.

So you say we don't know, its speculation, and then say Brady didn't want to listen. LOL.

He went to krafts house and said he was leaving and it didn’t matter what they offered. Kraft himself said that.

Please give me a link to that quote from Kraft.

In our 2 wins this season Cam Newton is averaging 160 yards passing.

You don't pay $30m for that.

We won because of our running game and defense.

This is not only about this offseason, if BB had handled his business somewhere in the last 3 years by giving him a proper contract extension it would not of come to this. There was a contract issue every single year since beating Atlanta.

If Cam didn't fall into their lap then last night was what we would be looking at for the whole year. Either Bill didn't think this season would happen or he grossly misjudged how inadequate his QB room was prior to Cam. I would be all for wrapping up Cam for 2 years $25 mill if he is willing to go for it. In the mean time target and develop a guy they think can be the future of the position.

Extremely misleading to exclude the game against Seattle from that conversation. Simply because we lost on quite literally the last play, Cam's 397 via passing should be completely discarded?

Never have the Pats been more dependent on their starter being healthy for the rest of the season. I just read Newton is still asymptomatic which means there is a chance he could play if he gets negative tests starting Wed.

He had a great game but can he do that consistently when we need it. I don't know and a big reason for it is Edelman has been dropping passes for years now and he looks worn down already. We really need a receiver.
