ESPN is making me hate Brees

Also, Brees has had 5 sub .500 seasons in New Orleans.

.
You want to put that on Brees?? In those sub .500 seasons, he won 7 games each time. His team's offense in terms of points scored were 8th, 12th,3rd, 9th and 2nd in the league over those 5 years. His team's defense in terms of points allowed were 25th, 31st,28th,32nd and 31st... It's a miracle he even won 7 games with the crap defenses he had......

OK

You have lost all credibility on QB evaluations. So at least we know that, moving forward.
Why do you continue to pimp the horse face? Are you, like, his agent or something?

The one thing I would freely admit is that Manning is an enjoyable personality. On TV, when acting, Manning comes off funny and personable.

Well, I'm not sure how personable he comes off, but this Saturday Night Live fake commercial was definitely funny

How many times did they pimp him last night during the commercial breaks for the Red Sox/Yankees?

As much as he's a whiny *****, Kurt Warner deserves strong consideration as a top-5 QB of the 21st century. He had a shorter career, but I'd put him close to the same ranking as Brees. I would rank the top QBs of the era like this:

1. Brady
2. Rodgers
3. Fivehead
4. Brees
5. Warner
6. Rivers
7. Romo (I know many won't agree)
8. Roethlisberger
9. McNabb (5 NFCCG Appearances, even if he gagged a lot)
10. Ryan

How can anyone hate Bree's ? By all accounts he seems like a great guy off the field and he is a great QB . Even though we clearly have the GOAT, I can appreciate other talented players and he has solely been responsible for lifting up the Saints as well as he has done so much for that city when they needed it the most .

Hating him and laughing at his spectacle are two different things. The crying bear hug with Sean Payton was more dramatic than the Brady Belichick one where they won their 5th Super Bowls in the most epic comeback ever. I mean seriously, a relatively meaningless yardage record that’s essentially becoming a game of hopscotch for who takes the lead? I do like Brees, but they was laughably overdramatic, and if he really was that emotional and proud, I may actually lose a little respect for the guy. I’ve always suspected he was a stat padder - not that he doesn’t want to win at all costs - but someone whose stats are always maximized no matter what and who isn’t really as good as he is on paper.

You got to admit, that is pretty funny.

If Brady had played in 2008 and thrown for roughly 4800 yards, 0 TDS, and 62 interceptions, he would have equal stats for TDs, INTs, and yards as Brees. This is one of many reasons why the yardage record is silly. It isn’t comparable to home runs/hits in baseball or goals/assists in hockey. Unlike those records, yardage has virtually no correlation to positive performance and wins.

But at least Brady would get a certificate.

I think Brees' accuracy doesn't get talked about enough. He's had about four different years where he's had a completion percentage higher than 70, and most of those years he threw the ball over 600 times. Yardage records can get silly but not in Brees' case, since he's also had many 5000 yard seasons in the same years.

I agree. His accuracy is way more impressive than yardage totals. He deserves a lot more praise for that. Brees is a great QB. I hope he wins an MVP before he retires. He was better than Manning in 2009 and lost to a superhuman Rodgers in 2011. Maybe this will be the year. It’s amazing that in the NFC South Newton and Ryan have won the award but not Brees.

I was miffed he didn't win it in 2009. Peyton threw five more picks that year and one less TD. Also, the Colts already had a history of being a perennial contender; Brees turned the Saints into the NFC's top seed from 8-8.

Favre also had a better argument than Peyton for MVP, come to think of it.

Are you a Saints fan? If so sorry to hear you were also victimized by the Peyton Manning Fanboy Sports Writers of America. Brees was way more deserving of the award, but the narrative for MVP changed every year depending on what Manning was doing. Manning also had NO business winning in 2008. At least Brees got his revenge in the SB while Manning choked as always.

I am a Pats fan. I started watching football in 2009, incidentally.

I rewatched some of the games from 2009. (It's really incredible how the Pats were really just a few plays away from being a 12-4 or 13-3 team than a 10-6 one.) All in all Brees was the most deserving of the award that season, like how Tom was in the following year.

Random thought, Peyton "being his own OC" was one of the things that was super hyped up during his prime, but in retrospect it feels like an evolutionary dead end. Belichick exploited the QB being the OC against the Bills and the K-Gun offense when he was the Giants DC, and he did it again, repeatedly, as our head coach against Peyton.

In the days leading up to Super Bowl XXV, then–New York Giants defensive coordinator Bill Belichick was searching for any weakness the opposing Buffalo Bills might possess. Powered by four future Hall of Famers, Buffalo’s “K-Gun” offense had led the NFL in scoring during the 1990 season and had already posted 44 and 51 points in the playoffs against the Dolphins and Raiders.

But Belichick eventually settled on an edge he thought he could exploit: His first job in the NFL had been under the K-Gun’s architect, Buffalo offensive coordinator Ted Marchibroda. While head coach of the Baltimore Colts in 1975, Marchibroda had hired Belichick for a barely paid gig analyzing game film, and the two remained friendly. But this was business, not personal, and Belichick knew that the old-school Marchibroda, though a great tactician, would have trained his quarterbacks the same way he’d once trained his junior film guy: by filling them up with knowledge and then handing them the reins. Analysts wondered how Buffalo’s no-huddle attack could play so fast, but Belichick knew that Marchibroda was forged in an era when quarterbacks like Bart Starr and Johnny Unitas called their own plays, and that Bills passer Jim Kelly had the same freedom.

That knowledge was all Belichick needed. Later, Belichick would tell David Halberstam he didn’t think Kelly read defenses as well as some other NFL quarterbacks did, which made Belichick confident he could stay one step ahead. While Marchibroda would be able to explain the Giants’ looks to Kelly between series, during them Kelly would have to match wits with Belichick unaided.
