The concensus was more like a late third or fourth rounder. The hype is getting a little ridiculous. The kid is fast and he has the potential to be a threat at WR, RB or returner. But he's going to have to learn the system to get on the field as a WR, fumble less than once in every 39 touches and show he can pass block to get on the field as a RB, and show he can return kicks efficiently at this level after minimal experience at the college level. Kudos to him for medaling in the Olympics, but he hasn't been doing anything football skills related since last December. He's like a kid coming off combine training. Many of whom struggle to get back on track even with a full NFL off season, mini camps, and TC.
Bill didn't have to do much to beat out other interest. The rookie cap being what it is the money was equal and they were all essentially limited to minimum contracts. Reportedly the Patriots guaranteed a little more. They clearly will want to find a way to keep him from being snagged off of waivers, but they also understand that anyone who does also has to add him to their 53 sight unseen. So the PS isn't entirely out of the question. He obviously was given a physical before he returned to Tampa to sign his contract. However, that doesn't preclude placing him on PUP if they don't believe he is in football shape. They'll cross that bridge on Wednesday because until he practices with the team he remains eligible. And of course if he struggles and gets dinged out of the gate there is always IR.
