Pitt wouldst be able to keep him with a 5 mill first year cap hit.
I'm pretty sure after our own FA signings and various releases that we're about 5 million under the cap...but most of that needs to be allocated to the 2013 draft class. I'm sure we *could* do it at 5 mill with other restructures/releases etc. (NO is arguably in worse shape than we are relative to the cap, and they were able to squeeze in Keenan Lewis' signing)...it's just a matter of whether they deem Sanders important and reliable enough to do so.
It's actually a bit similar to Lewis in terms of player evaluation: Lewis had one very good year last year after 3 almost non-existent ones. Sanders had his first healthy year last year after concerns about both of his feet. Do you trust either one enough to commit significant dollars, and potentially move around existing contracts on top of that? I'm sure Pitt would love to keep both, but I don't know if in the end they are/were sure enough bets, in the context of Pitt's salary cap situation.
