According to the DOJ, there are more than a million gang members in the US and it is estimated that half of them own fire arms, almost all of them illegally obtained.
Just like it has been in poor neighborhoods for CENTURIES, only the efficiency of the weaponry has changed. In your railing about immigration, you forget that we are a NATION of immigrants (unless you are a native American of course)
In many poor neighborhoods, gang membership is a rite of passage and possession fire arms is to be expected.
Again when you are poor, your schools are underfunded, good jobs are scarce and housing is poor, gangs happen... since Roman times. Again the difference, to me, is basically between a six shooter and a Mac10
The authorities have done next to nothing to deal with gangsters; parts of some American cities are worse than war zones, yet in the traditional American revulsion at tyranny, many folks are much more concerned about police violence than gang violence.
I don't disagree. What I want to see more of is finding out just WHO are arming these groups. Where do the guns go AFTER they leave the factory. My contention is that manufacturers don't give a **** and until they are made liable for the distribution of their products, they will continue not to.
Hey, the guy who makes your car, cans your corn, sells you your insurance are ALL liable for their products AFTER they are sold, but strangely, the gun industry isn't. Why is that?
Many cities are reducing policing and refusing to enforce "minor" crimes like property theft.
a vast generalization. I have friends that are cops...well retired cops now, but they are still connected. It IS more difficult to be a cop now because there IS more accountability, but that isn't a bad thing
Almost 3 million migrants illegally crossed the southern border last year, abusively conveyed by violent paramilitary gangsters, and next to nothing is being done to enforce the existing immigration laws by the federal government.
OK let's blame the "immigrants" everything bad that is happens is all their fault. It's a simple but glib comment to justify turning our country into Dodge City. BTW- ever thought it might be a better better way to handle immigration. NOONE wants to walk hundreds of miles, leave your home, give your last dime to some coyote with the likelihood that you will end up in some holding cell. Anyone think of asking why are these people so desperate that NEED to leave their homes and doing something about THAT?
There is no way in hell in this blatant selective enforcement climate that folks will give up their guns. Outlawing firearms will only serve to make half of Americans criminals and further reduce the respect for law.
Again, no one is asking to give up their guns. At least I'm not. I just want them to have the same protection as we have in the automobile. The the people who own them are licensed, and have proven they can handle their weapons safely. Is THAT too much to ask, Kas?
I would add some restrictions though. Massive clips, assault weapons are two that come to mind.
And just one more thing, EVERYONE else in the industrial world seems to be able to handle THEIR issues of gangs and immigration WITHOUT needing to arm their nations. Last year almost 50,000 died by guns (and yes I know about half were suicides) to give it some perspective in 2020 the US averaged 4.2 gun deaths per 100,000 people. Chile was 2nd at 1.8 and Canada was 3rd at .05 EVERYONE else were less. WHY is this, Kas? What are we doing wrong? Help me here Kas?
