[Edited thread title] Jack Jones arrested for possession of firearms at airport

He also signs players like Robinson & JuJu who are hurt?

No physical before signing?
Yeah like that disastrous signing of the TE from Arizona who had just had back surgery!

Given the AHern stuff, Jones' previous record with B&E at Panda Express, it seems like a Bad Idea to keep giving him chances no matter his talent. It isn't guns per se, it is a pattern of behavior that includes criminal activity and general dumb-****ery that we no longer want to overlook. E.g., if instead Jones had a history of duck hunting competitions and were busted with hunting rifles, I would be having a very different reaction right now and I think we'd all be cutting him some slack.

This is a tough pill.
We know if we release him that some team will sign him after the uproar dies down.

What about that DT kid out of Florida with those knee surgeries?

A while back, a co-worker of my son was in a hurry getting to the airport to fly out of state and he grabbed a small bag from his closet, tossed some clothes into it and raced to the airport where he went thru all the security measures before boarding the plane with his carry on.
No issues.
On his way back the next day, his bag was flagged by TSA and his handgun was located in an interior pocket. The guy was arrested and the local media in that state had a field day at his expense labeling him everything you can imagine including "terrorist".
Note: The gun was registered and he had a carry permit in his home state.
Note 2.0: The Feds determined he was not a terrorist nor any type of bad hombre. He was just a forgetful idiot who forgot he had tucked away his handgun in the bag he grabbed.
He hired an expensive lawyer ($30k) who negotiated with the Feds to drop all charges in exchange for not making public the fact that this gun passed thru security undetected on his original flight.
Shhhhhhh.....don't tell anyone.

Come on Mr Commissioner, that's BS. The great majority of people are untroubled that he owns guns. They are upset by all the laws he broke and how it hurts our beloved football team.

Agreed. That's why I said Jones is a moron, and there may be a vocal minority who are going to be morally outraged at the evil guns. And I wasn't really referring to anyone here...or even Patriots fans necessarily.

I worry about Kraft trying to appease a vocal minority.

Everyone here is pissed because Jones has a chance to be an excellent CB opposite our 1st round pick. I am banking on a dominant defense this season. That is all I care about. We are all pissed at his stupidly. Absolutely.

The Patriots are a business to Kraft. Having Jack Jones on the team in no way will harm Kraft's business. If he decides to cut Jones, he is appeasing like the soft, clout-chaser I think he is.

If Belichick makes the choice to cut him, then I guess he has had enough.

Yeah...it would suck. It's about what values are most important to you. Some team will pick him and make up some redemption arc storyline like with Vick. Who knows, I could be wrong. Maybe that redemption arc could happen, and it could happen here. But why didn't it happen after he already was arrested for B&E? I mean... how many chances? It smells like AHern all over again.

Edit: I'm not actually that confident I'm right, I'm more just making an argument here just to throw out one of my perspectives. And what he's accuesed of is nowhere near as bad as Vick or Ahern. (He's from LA so we just literally don't know what he's been involved in)

The league office won't be a problem. He will get a suspension at most.

Kraft, on the other hand, is the problem. I worry about his need to please the vocal minority who are horrified that the guy had guns.

I want Jack Jones on this football team.

Nobody in their right mind should be "horrified that the guy had guns." Legal and responsible gun ownership is a protected right in this country. What Jones did was illegal, irresponsible and essentially inexcusable. I don't know what path might exist for his redemption leading back to football, but it'll be interesting to find out.

Thing is, what Jones did is pretty egregious so if he's cut I wouldn't necessarily call it an appeasing PR move.

I don't think he'll be released or we would have already heard about it. When hernandez was arrested he was gone immediately..This is similar level to Duron Harmon trying to bring 60 grams of marijuana into Costa Rica or Patrick Chung getting indicted for cocaine. They put out a similar statement when Edelman was charged for sexual assault. It seems to be their way of saying we'll let the legal process play out.

Think this will be "this is your 2nd strike, 1 more and you're gone"

I don’t know how Kraft could be such friends with Meek Mill and others, only to cut Jack Jones and really send the kid down a bad path.
This is the time to have someone mentor Jack Jones.
Why not hire someone like Lawyer Milloy or Ty Law to teach this kid how to be a professional on and off the field.
Yes I’m aware of Laws issue at the airport but I think Law learned moved on and is a hall of famer,
If you throw this kid away vs helping him then Kraft is a hypocrite.

Why would you cut bait if he is good enough to be a contributor or starter?
What if he is the biggest moron of the girls you ever met? Why not get as much production on the field as you can unless and until he screws up again? Why would someone’s personal life dictate whether they should be playing corner?
I have had season tickets for 30 years. I want to contribute to a top shelf organization both athletically and ethically.
What I have enjoyed most was two folded. The success of the team and a high morality and team spirit that they dictated on and off the field.
Success and only success seems to suit you fine and that is OK. We all see and want things differently.
I respect your view. But it is not my view

Did he legally purchase these guns in Arizona? Did he properly handle these guns on his way to mini-camp? It doesn't look good, but dumb and criminal aren't the same thing. The state nor the team should kill his career if he is just dumb. Dumb people deserve a living too, criminals belong in jail.

This is not anywhere on a "similar level" to drugs.

According to the DOJ, there are more than a million gang members in the US and it is estimated that half of them own fire arms, almost all of them illegally obtained.

In many poor neighborhoods, gang membership is a rite of passage and possession fire arms is to be expected.

The authorities have done next to nothing to deal with gangsters; parts of some American cities are worse than war zones, yet in the traditional American revulsion at tyranny, many folks are much more concerned about police violence than gang violence.

Many cities are reducing policing and refusing to enforce "minor" crimes like property theft.

Almost 3 million migrants illegally crossed the southern border last year, abusively conveyed by violent paramilitary gangsters, and next to nothing is being done to enforce the existing immigration laws by the federal government.

There is no way in hell in this blatant selective enforcement climate that folks will give up their guns. Outlawing firearms will only serve to make half of Americans criminals and further reduce the respect for law.
Is this a Fox News or CNN debate.
This is about a law that was broken. Until they change that law I will obey it
I love sports and hate politics
Why. Because both the Dems and GOP suck
Please don’t turn this political. One of our players is an idiot. Not because of any Ideological BS

I just stated that what I have loved about supporting this team was that they showed excellence on and off the field for the last 20 or so years. I refuse to cave to those beliefs just to assure W’s. He can be replaced

Just like it has been in poor neighborhoods for CENTURIES, only the efficiency of the weaponry has changed. In your railing about immigration, you forget that we are a NATION of immigrants (unless you are a native American of course)
In many poor neighborhoods, gang membership is a rite of passage and possession fire arms is to be expected.
Again when you are poor, your schools are underfunded, good jobs are scarce and housing is poor, gangs happen... since Roman times. Again the difference, to me, is basically between a six shooter and a Mac10
The authorities have done next to nothing to deal with gangsters; parts of some American cities are worse than war zones, yet in the traditional American revulsion at tyranny, many folks are much more concerned about police violence than gang violence.
I don't disagree. What I want to see more of is finding out just WHO are arming these groups. Where do the guns go AFTER they leave the factory. My contention is that manufacturers don't give a **** and until they are made liable for the distribution of their products, they will continue not to.

Hey, the guy who makes your car, cans your corn, sells you your insurance are ALL liable for their products AFTER they are sold, but strangely, the gun industry isn't. Why is that?
Many cities are reducing policing and refusing to enforce "minor" crimes like property theft.
a vast generalization. I have friends that are cops...well retired cops now, but they are still connected. It IS more difficult to be a cop now because there IS more accountability, but that isn't a bad thing
Almost 3 million migrants illegally crossed the southern border last year, abusively conveyed by violent paramilitary gangsters, and next to nothing is being done to enforce the existing immigration laws by the federal government.
OK let's blame the "immigrants" everything bad that is happens is all their fault. It's a simple but glib comment to justify turning our country into Dodge City. BTW- ever thought it might be a better better way to handle immigration. NOONE wants to walk hundreds of miles, leave your home, give your last dime to some coyote with the likelihood that you will end up in some holding cell. Anyone think of asking why are these people so desperate that NEED to leave their homes and doing something about THAT?
There is no way in hell in this blatant selective enforcement climate that folks will give up their guns. Outlawing firearms will only serve to make half of Americans criminals and further reduce the respect for law.
Again, no one is asking to give up their guns. At least I'm not. I just want them to have the same protection as we have in the automobile. The the people who own them are licensed, and have proven they can handle their weapons safely. Is THAT too much to ask, Kas?

I would add some restrictions though. Massive clips, assault weapons are two that come to mind.

And just one more thing, EVERYONE else in the industrial world seems to be able to handle THEIR issues of gangs and immigration WITHOUT needing to arm their nations. Last year almost 50,000 died by guns (and yes I know about half were suicides) to give it some perspective in 2020 the US averaged 4.2 gun deaths per 100,000 people. Chile was 2nd at 1.8 and Canada was 3rd at .05 EVERYONE else were less. WHY is this, Kas? What are we doing wrong? Help me here Kas?

Boy we were depending on him.

Jones only stays on this team if he makes a tearful weeping apology and commits to "ending gun violence". Also a sizable donation to an anti 2A group will help.
