Drake Maye Sack Problem: Fix Release, or Fix Protection?

The good news is that if he can address those things this year, we will have an awesome QB next year.
I think even with these youngster flaws he is pretty awesome. The future is bright.

Brady's processing speed was phenomenal.

He also was able to get to the point where he'd seen everything any defense could throw at him. On the back half of his career, I can count the number of games on one hand where he got flummoxed and all were game designs by defensive geniuses like Rex Ryan or Spags, for example.

We can only hope that Drake can get to that kind of longevity but I don't know what can replicate the insane drive of someone who was drafted in the 6th round.
What also helped Brady is I think he may have almost had if not a photographic memory. I have seen videos of him discussing plays from 10 years ago in games that didnt have great significance. His ability to recall plays from long ago and in such detail surely helped with the cerebral side of football.

Take the checkdown, get the 5-7 yard gain, convert the easy down first. People also dismiss this as nothing, but it’s not. The longer your offense and opposing defenses are out there on the field the less your defense is out there and less time opponents have to score points.

If you want to play better defense, play less defense. Drake needs to improve the efficiency of the offense by not taking unnecessary sacks, getting the ball out quickly and taking what the defense gives him.
Also, the longer their defense is out there the more they’re getting fatigued and ready to be torched late in the game. Conversely the better rested your defense will be for the stretch run.

“If you want to play better defense play less defense” is so true. And that’s the downside of Drake’s deep strike offense. It gives the defense less time to rest. Any offense that fails to move the chains puts the defense back out quickly. But a successful run heavy dink and dunk drive that takes 12 or 15 plays to move down the field gives their defense plenty of time to rest while wearing out the opponents. OTOH a successful quick strike deep bomb oriented offense might only give their defense a handful of plays to rest before they’re back in action.

It’s another reason that a well balanced team is better.

Just win baby, there are no style points and you don’t get better playoff seeding for fantasy football stats.

Data showing this issue is being over blown

Our average drive is the 5th longest time of possession in the league.
We are #5 in overall time of possession at 31:50 to 28:10 and in our last 3 games top has been 35:49

Also the alternative to a quick strike score isn’t necessarily a 13 play Td drive it could also be a 3 and out. And drive that produces a TD is better than any drive that doesn’t, regardless of time of possession.

The overall stat 'looks' worse than it really is for two reasons.......

1. Miles Garrett is a freak of nature
2. Many of Maye's sacks are for 1 and 2 yard losses.

So when you think 'sack' you think 'drive killer' but with the Patriots many of their 'sacks' have been the same as a Stevenson/Henderson run for -1 yard. Sure, we want positive yards, but sacks hasn't been the killer some are making it out to be.

To that same extent, some sacks are of the 'smart' variety. That is, where nothing good is gonna happen from attempting a pass. Nobody open and you're about to get clobbered? Duck and cover and live to fight another play.
