to come back to the topic, because this fake patriotic/nationalistic **** is annoying as hell

why was Nick Coe released? are there any news/infos about that?

I don't know if Tillman would have kneeled, but from what those close to him have said, I sure bet he would support the values and principles those kneeling are fighting for.

Curious here...how does one "retire" from a job they never showed up for and were never compensated for?

What am I missing?

that's one helluva roundabout way to finally reveal that YOU are pro-kneeling during the national anthem...THAT is the only problem I have, you got something to say, say it...don't play kunty little word salad games.

pro-kneeling

what a sad phrasing
easiest job turning humans on each other

It’s a strange decision, to be sure. I mean, even at round 7, that a $3 million+ contract he’s potentially walking away from.

I’d be lying if I said I knew the first thing about him other than he played at Memphis. It’s just that’s an awful lot of money to leave on the table so I have to wonder what precisely the plan is.

He signed a contract (4-years) and got a signing bonus ($100k or so). It qualifies as a retirement, I believe. He showed up and shipped out.

Why not opt out then, collect the money?

I was thinking the same thing. I'm guessing he'd have to pay it back next year. Still, if he were to bank it and not spend it, he could possibly get away with keeping it if they don't go after him.

Or, maybe he's honest/principled.

dunno

He certainly could have gamed the system a little if he wanted. If he opted out, he would keep his signing bonus and get the opt out money. Then suppose, after a year, he becomes a guy clearly not good enough to make the team. They would cut him.

He’d be obligated to return the opt out money but, unlike what happened, he could keep the signing bonus.

(I don’t know if the Patriots are going to go after the signing bonus, but they are certainly entitled to)

I can't tell if you're being serious.

Really the only thing to suggest to me that you're being sarcastic is the fact that you have Pat Tillman in your avatar, who would've been all about kneeling during the anthem haha.

Someone points this out approximately 75% of the time that poster says something dumb. It never works. The response is always putting their fingers in their ears and shouting "n-no, that's not true!!! Pat would have been racist!"

Pat Tillman was a huge Noam Chomsky fan, reading his books and keeping in contact with him. After going to war, he became very anti-war, I think describing it as "f*cking illegal" or something to that effect. It's posited, and quite often - and mostly accepted at this point - that this was the big reason for his death by fratricide.
Let’s be clear: one definition of fratricide is when someone is killed by friendly fire. So yes, his death was fratricide.

But your implication that there was deliberate action behind it is not even remotely in the realm of reality, let alone “mostly accepted” by anyone but the most deranged, conspiracy-theory minded lunatics amongst us. There was no “reason” he was killed beyond one group of special forces accidentally, unknowingly firing upon a friendly position.

The NFL, the Military, and the Hijacking of Pat Tillman’s Story

If you have a problem with the intercept (some people do!), you can find a wide array of sources and such via Google.

I love Noam Chomsky, he's a brilliant mind and its scary to think that he's very close to the end of his life and there is no younger version of him to take his place

Didnt know about the Pat Tillman connection, very interesting..

Got it, thanks. I was unaware of the payment having been made. He's shipping outta Boston...

Maybe the kid just simply decided pro football was not what he wanted to do for the next several years. Better to find out now rather than a few years down the road with a sore and possibly broken body (albeit a richer body).

Bittersweet,
Memories,

Hhhhhwith meeeeeheeeeeeeee

And I highly doubt he thought fighting for his country was suddenly “illegal” which is absurd.
Tillman signed up after the September 11 attacks. By the accounts he didn't think fighting for his country per se was illegal, but fighting the Iraq war was illegal. Which is a difference.

Could be this.

Or he could've showed up at training camp way overweight and out of shape from months of lock down and realized he had no chance.

(just making stuff up)

Getting things back on track.

I completely disagree that the Pats plans at center have "completely imploded". Not unless Froholdt ends up injured or cut. Most people had Froholdt as being one of the two reserve inside guys last year prior to his injury. Hopefully, he can be that guy this year and Mason can stay healthy.

Bedard: Patriots' plans at center have completely imploded & season may rest on David Andrews | Boston Sports Journal

did Froholdt get any reps at center in the 2019 preseason, before he went to the ir? Thought he was alternating between rg/lg
