It's a BS NON CALL, PERIOD! It was BLATENT PI or Holding or Face Guarding Gronk was Bear Hugged while ball was in air. Gronk should've make a move towards ball then it would've been easier to call too.
What many peole also fail to see in this (and it's barely shown) is that the Safety's leg knocks into Gronks knee and that's the cause for that big step/jump. This happens the same time Kuechly is pushing him. Thus Groink looks far more out of position than he would have. I doubt Gronk would have been able to get to the ball because of the incidental contact from the Safety, but that's not the point. The call was wrong. The call isn't based on the outcome or evidence to support the outcome. The penalty needs to be considered as it occurred.Maybe you should actually look at some of the videos and pictures. Lester contacts Gronkowski the same time Kuechly starts to hold Gronk
As you can see the defender was further away from the ball than Gronk was. Yet somehow the hold is okay because it was uncatchable. It was only uncatchable because Gronk was pushed out of the area of the ball.
There is no way you can tell me definitively that had Gronk not been mauled that he couldn't have made a play on that ball.
Also the defender that made the INT puts both hands on Gronks back and pushes him out of the way to got after the ball.
I just find it hilarious that the ball was deemed uncatchable for Gronk, yet a guy that was further away from the spot where the ball was thrown mads a play on the ball.
He didn't have to. The ref threw the flag. Gronk was not at fault and didn't do anything wrong. Hell, even the ref that correctly threw the flag didn't do anything wrong.

Gronk should have fought more for the ball or he should have "sold' it more.
It was pass interference, BUT FROM THE REFS perspective (not mine) gronk is too damn big and powerful to get taken out of the play like that.
They probably thought gronk that if gronk wanted to he could have fought harder to make a play on the ball..
It would be like 6'8 lebron james driving to basket and he lets chris paul/rondo/tony parker prevent him from dunking.
Refs should let the players play on the final play of the game and when patriots defense is in a similar situation i expect them to make the right* call like they did last night.
I expect the refs to bail the pats out because now they owe them the patriots.
Conspiracy?
SportsCenter seems to already know the early score of the game against the Broncos. NFL will give them a nice spanking for leaking that I'm sure.
I was sayin that about sellin it but Gronk didn't have to but if he did that flag stands. It was a BLATENT hold. How many times have we saw a holding call in a game that was on otherside of field of where ball was throw and it was 5 yards & a auto first down? Thousands? Back Judge had correct call and was over ruled. Then why have a Back Judge?! JOKE!
The game should not be a decided on a PI CALL...
I'll be honest... after looking at replays I don't think that's as "obvious" a missed call as it looked at first. The throw just was not made to an area where it was obviously a catchable ball. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if they let it slide. But I do have a problem with the fact a flag WAS thrown and then they just picked it up with no explanation.
Anyway not gonna blame the refs. Talib's sub par game, Solder's missed block on a drive killing sack, some bad penalties, the weird play call on 3rd and 1, failure to contain Cam on 4 runs, and of course Ridley's fumble all were bigger contributors to the loss than that last play.
The Pats have a much bigger game Sunday night and they've gotta be better than that if they want to stop the Broncos.
The refs were right for letting the players play
The game should not be a decided on a PI CALL and i expect the refs to bail our defense out when we need a play like this.
The referees have opened Pandora's box and i expect them to stick by this rule when the pats defense needs it on the final play.
Let the players play.
I've seen balls thrown 20 yards over a guys head called PI so I don't see how that is deemed "uncatchable." No consistency in this league at all.
Except that they DIDN'T let the players play on McCourty's holding call.
The ball was under thrown, brady said as much. So you can't say that call cost us the game when you don't know if gronk would have been able to make the catch. While the reffs picking up the flag was wrong, its highly unlikely that gronk would have been able to catch the ball, and there was only 3 seconds left. Fumbles and poor decisions cost us the game.At least as far as the offense goes, we played well. So yeah, that call cost us the game.
All of what you posted makes sense to me. Ive seen a PI call many times when the ball was well over thrown. If not intercepted that ball would have hit gronk about belt high. And Ketchly pushed gronk back 3-4 yards from the spot where it was intercepted. It's also tough because I think sometimes these passes are thrown with the intention of being uncatchable. I know that sounds silly, but hear me out, if a defender is draped all over the guy in an illegal fashion sometimes it is wise of the QB to still throw to the receiver to increase his chances of getting that call. However, you don't want to throw it too well because you don't want to risk and interception if the refs DON'T call the penalty.
