DK Metcalf officially requests a trade (UPDATE: He's a Steeler)

In fairness to DK, this is going to be the case for every player on the market. Nobody wants to go out of their way to play for a losing team. If you can get paid handsomely and play for a contender, why wouldn’t you? That being said, the opportunity to be a catalyst for a winning culture sounds more compelling if the money looks substantially better than anywhere else. I just doubt it gets to that point, so I agree, I don’t expect the Patriots to get him either, much as I’d love for him to play here.
"DK Metcalf would love to play for a perennial 7 win team"

"I want to go to a contender" is code for "I want the contending teams to set the floor for my value, which the non-contending teams then have to over-pay me to compete with"
Maybe 35 million dollars per year would change his mind?

Did you watch the Super Bowl? How about the Bengals with all their great WRs?
At least the Bengals were in the playoffs. We can't afford to be super choosy where we get our talent because we are so untalented overall as a team. Whoever is the most talented available in free agency we need to land at least a couple of impact studs. And maybe another through trade.

I'm not trading a 1st for Metcalf because I could probably get Higgins for that price... I'd do a 3rd max. He needs a new deal.

Our high 3rd is nearly as good as a late 2nd. And maybe we can attach a conditional pick if Metcalf stays longterm with the Patriots.

I'm thinking the biggest hurdle will be to convince him to come and sign a long term deal with the Patriots. Don't think the compensation will get too crazy for Metcalf because of his contract demands.

It wouldn't be just #4. It would be swapping 4 for 18. If #4 is worth 1800 and #18 is worth 900, it might be worth it in this draft. The problem is that the talent pool if Carter and Hunter are gone isn't all that different from 4 to 18. We can still get a starter at 18. I am no saying we do this, but its reasonable.

If you use Over The Cap's chart, its a difference of 762, which is the 83rd pick.

Metcalf looking for:

- play for a contender
- $30m per year
- stable QB
- warm weather

He ain’t coming to NE.

Seattle's statement is that they will do what is best for their team. So DK may not get all those things. Money still talks. Offer him $32-$35 million and he may bend.

He hasn’t been great the last few years. I know we have to overpay but $35m is way beyond what he’s worth and then you have to add on the draft picks to get him. Hard pass. I’d rather go after Chris Godwin in FA or trade for Kupp.

When ?

I think Metcalf is a similar comp to what AJ Brown was if you're comparing stats-wise. Both guys on their first teams hovered around the 1,000 yard mark give or take a 100 yards and both played with mediocre quarterbacks. Brown since getting to Philly has exploded into a top 10 receiver but he wasn't that guy in Tennessee.

To be honest I really don't care about the contract. Overpay him. I really don't care since we have money to spend and the cap is crap anyways and can always be manipulated. What I do care about is getting Drake an alpha dog and pushing this offense from the bottom half of the league to the top half. Getting Metcalf doesn't mean we just stop adding to the receiver room but at least we can slot a guy in there who can be the main option for a couple years.

Brown was always a better receiver than Metcalf, and he was traded 3yrs ago. Metcalf came out of school as a pretty limited WR and nothing has really changed in his time in the league.

He has not had a gunslinger either. He would be much better with Drake. We have to pay the suck tax. I am fine paying Godwin too. Kupp is ok. No big expectations from the 10 games he plays.

Schneider sounds totally done with him, maybe he'll send a message and trade him here out of spite haha. Oh you don't like taxes and the cold, well here you go

We’ll see what they get, doubt a first is involved at all.
Probably but I'm not sure I want to be the team that caves and gives them a 2 and a 3. I think the most I'd give would be a pick swap in the second and the weaker of our 3rd Rd picks. He's going to cost a lot of cash too so I don't want to give up too much.

Todays players are so soft. Do not want to build anything they all need to go to ready made situations
You are getting paid millions act like a professional.
Goff went to the Lions when they were bad.
I did not hear him crying about it

F off Metcalf
You're taking this a bit personal. For the last 20 years we would get players at good value because they knew they could come here and win and look good and it would impact their earning potential and legacy. It's always been a league where the worse your team is the harder it is to get good value deals on good players.

Goff didn't have a choice. He was considered damaged goods.

We benefitted from the same thing that is hurting us now. The solution was to never let it get this bad, which shouldn't have happened to begin with.

I think they put the trade return out of reach because they want to retain the player.

But if the player insists on leaving they’ll move him to the AFC and it will have to be a team he can negotiate an extension with in advance.

The Pats fill those criteria, now Seattle has to lower their expectations on a return. A 3rd sounds reasonable.
