Dion Lewis Update

In hindsight, yes for sure. But going into that Super Bowl no one thought THAT offense would only score 14 either. Not even Brady, who is normally so humble (outwardly anyway), joked about Burress' prediction of a 21-17 Giants win, saying (paraphrase): "We're only gonna score 17 points? Is Plax gonna play defense?"

I think I agree that this offense is more diverse and and I would be shocked if they were limited that way in a big game. But I think it's a bit disingenuous to think that the offensive output in SB42 was anything but shocking as well.
I honestly don't think it was. Surprising? Yes. Disappointing? Hell yes. (A little OT, I do remember having the constant feeling when the Pats were up that if they could JUST SCORE NOW ALREADY and get up by 2 scores the game would be over.) But the week before they only scored 21, and the times of the Pats destroying teams felt over at that point, even though they had hung 30+ on the Giants a few weeks earlier.

We have to stop talking about that game, gah. Horrible memories. The Giants had a freaking 10-minute drive to open that game. Is that a record? Nevermind, don’t tell me.

Alot of things went NYG's way that game.
  • The numerous fumbles by NYG that they ALSO recovered.
  • The Asante Samuel dropped INT on that fateful drive.
  • The catch that was assisted by multiple blatant holds that went uncalled.

That Mara family, they do seem to be extraordinarily lucky.

So many events in the NFL* seem to work to their advantage.

You may be right about the o-line, although as you say, it all comes down to execution on gameday.

But as for 2016 vs. 2007, look at it this way...put this year's offense, healthy, in that game....do they score more than 14 points? Hard to argue otherwise.

That implies that the 2007 offense was healthy. It wasn't.

Right....Brady was hurt, wasn't he. Or was that 2011. Or both...

He was not 100% for SB42. IIRC he suffered a high ankle sprain late vs JAX or at the start of SD. He had the walking boot and all that going leading up to the game

For SB46 it was in the 2nd 1/2 which his shoulder got crunched by Tuck and was 1/2 the player we saw complete 16 passes in a row or something like that.

Brady
All the TEs
The #1 backup OL (Hochstein)
Neal lost early (2nd drive, as I recall)

Plus Faulk got hurt with a leg injury but came back. Didn't seem 100% but he gutted it out.

There should be an "I don't get it" rating.

Good call - maybe an upside down question mark icon. Or better yet... a picture of Wrecks Ryan with his typical confused open mouth look.

I have ALWAYS felt the Neal injury (it was the first drive IIRC), that was the biggest factor in the lack of offense that day. I can't remember who replaced him, but Hochstein being out as well didn't help. It's one thing if you have a week to replace a key guy, but when it happens so early in a game, it becomes that much more of a problem.

Still, it's been almost a decade, and the huge numbers of would of's and could of's that surround that game still haunt me, just as I assume, they haunt many Rams fans, back in the 2001 season. 2007 was truly a story book season that ended with a nightmare twist. It should only reinforce the reality that there really isn't much of a gap when 2 good NFL teams play each other....just like we will see this week. The Pats are the better team, but if they don't play their A game, they can just as easily lose this one.

Ken as a Tufts guy you should know better.
Would have, should have.
You were probably posting in New Englandese, my apologies.

Bill said that Lewis "has had a lot of good football snaps" over the last few weeks. Certainly looking more and more likely to play this week.

He is. Looking forward to it.

But not expecting too many snaps for him. Work him into the rotation slowly. Usual protocol. All that.

Bill gonna wait until 3:58 to activate him, huh?

7 minutes....
