Derek Rivers....D line or LB?

yeah, my exact sentiment when we signed him. I don't want to say anything negative until I see him in camp but we'll find out fast if he's really in their plans. He does fill a need if he's still the tackling machine he was in NJ, but I never trust anything the Jetes do. Why would a defensive HC get rid of his most reliable middle defender?
I am a big fan of Harvey Langi. He can play LB, FB and Special Teams for us. BYU had him playing edge last year, and he was a RB prior to that, he is the type of player that BB can turn into a 4-down player.

Good post overall, a few thoughts on my end.

I am not sold on David Harris making this team. We bring in veteran players every year and list them as roster locks but in the past few years they have just been mentors in training camp and not on the final roster. Knighton, Washington, Brown in 2016 for an example.

If Harris is good to go/hasn't declined considerably he's perfect for the role as MLB in the 3-4 looks. If he's toast we really only have Roberts/Van Noy there. That's why he's a X-factor and hopefully has something left in the tank.

Roberts/Van Noy is really our only weakness on D but we could probably get away with rotating them again if Harris is done. Maybe Langi could show something to be the ILB in these looks.

I think Roberts will make the second year leap. He hit a bit of a wall around mid-November but before that he was playing very good football. The wall really showed up after the West Coast trip to SF.

This might sound overly ambitious but Roberts reminds me a lot of Navorro Bowman.

Wow. I'd be shocked if Harris didn't make the team. I think it provides depth and leadership at a position that needed it, particularly with HT usually getting banged up at times throughout the year.

@Joker--I'm guessing that an argument could be made for most of these proven vets that they cut. Mangold, Decker, Harris, Clady, even Revis (without adequate replacement, of course). It seems as though they're in a complete rebuilding mode and creating a lot of cap space for the future. They reportedly wanted to keep Harris, just not at that kind of salary. Belichick supposedly swooped in and offered more money than the Jets did. Hopefully, it proves to be a solid acquisition, even if it's just the first year of the deal in 2017.

Because he now has two world-beating rookie safeties.
