Dennard arrested for DUI

Not open for further replies.
We just need him to stay out of jail. We can hardly expect Dennard to be a role model for anyone.

As a 2 NFL football player have said WE ARE all role models whether we like it or not.

To quote one football player: "When asked about being a role model, blank NFL PLayer answered, “It’s a responsibility we must accept as professional athletes. It comes with it, regardless of whether you want to be one or not. In this society and culture, these kids watch athletes on TV and that’s what kids want to be… I feel like I have been given a platform."

“We’re in a position, because of the pedestal we are put on, the money that’s involved, and the TV, that people think our temptations are greater. It’s a matter of not putting yourself in these situations. You have the means and are in these big cities. It’s about having a plan beforehand and avoiding being put in tempting situations.”

Anyways lets get back to Denard. What a shame, hopefully he learns from this.

If Tebow told you to jump off the George Washington Bridge would you do it?

stop the moralizing and talk football...you want to vomit your OPINION on youths and role models do it on the Oprah message board.

Oh good someone from the Tebow flock has weighed in on the Dennard situation.

Roster cutdown can't come soon enough.

You're mixing religion with NFL football. Every Jew, Christian or Muslim is an example, a role model, whether he likes it oe not.

A young NFL football player is not necessarily a role model. I think that we do need locker room leaders and role models on every team. We need veteran presences to be role modles and mentors for the young players. This can come from the players or from the coaches. In any case, a team should provide ways for their youngsters to become adults, even when tempted by the many temptations that money can bring.

Yes, I think that team stars should be role models. Even some minor players can be such. Many, many NFL players are involved in all sorts of charities where such modeling is critical. But this cannot be a requirement for every player.

this clown is a troll POSING as a Tebow fan...he's got them fooled but his deliberate misspellings as he lauds the other Tebowites comes across as mockery. If I had to pinpoint his genesis, I'd say one of the Denver boards a few years back, and he's been running the same gag everywhere since.Notice where he's supposedly from...Torrance..the Raiders supposedly are thinking of moving to Torrance

I think this azzclown is a Raiders fan who originally began trolling as a Tebowite on a Denver board...since, as any of us know,Raider fans constantly troll Denver sites and vice versa. As Tebow has moved on, so has this idiot, playing an over the top born again zealot who posts ******ed Tebow platitudes.

FWIW I'd just set this idiot to ignore from now on.

Well my stance on the issue has already been expressed. I am not sure where religion was brought up in my post. I was talking about role models and having a platform. Anyways lets not get carried away with the role model part and come back to the Dennard discussion. I wish Dennard well and I Hope he gets his life together.

Also the two quotes I posted didn't come from Tim Tebow. They came from another NFL player.

I don't understand why we expect athletes to be role models? It's absurd to think that 25 year olds who bash each others brains in for fun and profit on the football field should be held to standards expected of members of congress.

Why because they have money? It's a violent sport that we watch for entertainment, many of the players grew up in the inner cities and used sports as means to get out. These are not MBA students at Harvard or CIO's from MIT, these are football players.

It's like the young girls who look at Kim Kardashian as a role model for them strictly based on her success and wealth. Look closely at Kim Kardashian; she had a homemade porn as a teen, slept with a NBA rosters worth of athletes, had a marriage that last 72 days, and is now having a baby with a self proclaimed gangster rapper before her divorce to another man is even complete.

Parents who rely on athletes and other celebrities to be role models to their children moronic and lazy fools. Actors, actresses, musicians, singers, and pro athletes are entertainment, not role models.

Are there some that you can point to and see that's a stand up human being? Yes but for every Tom Brady there is a half of dozen Dez Bryant's, Talib's and so on.

If you have children you should be very cautious when directing them to look at Tebow or any other athlete as a role model. The reality is you have no clue who Tebow really is, you simply believe what he wants you and the rest of the world to believe.

Take a look at this article I'm attaching the link to, do some research on athletes like Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, Lance Armstrong and so many more who at one point or another were seen as role models and upstanding human beings.

His behavior (drinking, and apprently heavily) is common enough amongst people his age, the consequences of those actions have been more severe towards him than most. Obviously, he is to blame for a large part of that, but there is certainly an aspect of randomness that has not worked in his favor so far.

So you're saying that he was unlucky he got caught?

Tim Tebow Is Not A Role Model - Business Insider

There was a documentary on Tim tebow. "Follow Tim Tebow as he trains and prepares for the ultimate personal and professional transition in this unprecedented, in-depth look at the most celebrated college football player of all time. Harnessing sheer determination and faith, Tebow defies the odds and astounds critics as he makes the journey from two-time national champion and Heisman trophy winner to first round draft pick and NFL rookie quarterback."

Is Tim Tebow perfect heck no. Even Tim has said many times in interviews and in general that he isn't perfect and makes plenty of mistakes.

However, Tim is a good Role Model and does try to do the right thing. He is one of a few in the NFL that I am happy to have my kid look up to.

Tim Tebow: Why We Really Like Him SO Much

"Some people are envious of the type of devotion Tebow fans have for him. It makes them uncomfortable and rather than being honest with themselves about their envy, they shift the blame to us, the fans. They know that many of us became Tim Tebow fans for what he does off the field, rather than on it. Sure, we cheer him on from the stands and in front of our televisions. We are happy when he gets those wins. And no, we don’t care about his form, we’re more focused on his drive. But most importantly, we love that he lives the life he believes. Regardless if we personally agree with his beliefs or even share his faith at all, it’s more about rooting for someone genuine, authentic, a leader, a guiding light. Someone with class that is dedicated to his sport and his team, as well as to the values for which he stands. Someone who makes time for children fighting serious illnesses, orphans, and underprivileged kids from around the world. And none of it is an act, or something he is forced to do; he is a genuine human being and that is refreshing and inspiring. He reminds us what true leadership and sportsmanship is all about."

About Tim and his family

Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association - About the Tebow Family

a small tidbit from the link above. Click link above for more info

"While at the University of Florida, Tim led fellow college students in Bible studies each week, and he desires to remain involved in ministry in the future. Tim’s faith is the driving force in his life, and he is acutely aware that "to whom much is given, much is required." He keeps a poem in his room that reminds him of an athlete’s accountability to be a role model for the little boys who want to be just like him."

"Two adjectives often used to describe Tim are "competitive" and "kind." He has grown-up in a close but highly competitive family and is known for his competitiveness on the athletic field. He is also unusually tenderhearted and kind, as evidenced by the fact that he chooses to spend time with the orphans at his dad’s orphanage, greet young fans, and visit sick children in the hospital."

"Tebow's mission
Florida quarterback reaches out to young inmates with a message about faith and the importance of being able to 'finish strong' in life."

Tim Tebow Is the Role Model Americans Need, but Not the One We Deserve

"How about a new one? Tim Tebow. No one wants to admit it, but Tebow would wash the floor with any of the other sports role models you have looked up to. Tebow goes above and beyond the call of duty as a pro athlete. Tebow builds orphanages in his birth country of the Philippines, he invites fans with serious diseases to come to games, meet him before and after the game, sit with his parents in the stands, and after the game, the child leaves with a signed football and a Bible personalized with their name. Tell me when was the last time your role model did that?"

"Unlike most of the athletes that are role models, Tebow practices what he preaches. After a game, he praises God for his opportunity to play, he kneels down and prays before and after the game, and he’s not afraid to say, “First and foremost I would like to thank my Lord and Savior ************” before he begins talking to the media. Unlike many, he means it."

Tim Tebow Calls for Better Role Models During His Easter Sermon: Mother’s Perspective

"It is this belief that has made Tebow such a wonderful role model. It is this reason that so many parents have encouraged their children to follow Tebow. He represents what parents want their children to learn about sports and the way to behave. It is this positive influence that many fans hope will rub off on the other players in the NFL. As a parent, I must say I would definitely love to see the reputation of some NFL stars make a change and know that there are true sports role models for our children."

Tim Tebow’s ‘it’ factor captivates Scottsdale churchgoers

"It was fascinating to see Tebow in this light. You hear about his beliefs, but to see it exposed in front of a congregation (where he requested no media be present) was something different. It was sincere."

What's a polite way to tell someone to please shut up?

I could find 5X the positive articles on Tiger Wood's with ease. Tebow is showing you what he wants you to see. I'm not saying he isn't a good person I'm just saying unless you're a member of his inner circle which I'm going to assume you aren't you don't really have a clue who Tim Tebow really is.

Brittney Spears was once beloved in the Christian community and had the world believing she was a virgin waiting till marriage. How come the Christian community isn't promotion Jessica and Joe Simpson these days?

I'm not trying to be a jerk; I'm just saying you're putting a lot of stock in someone you've never even met, and historically that's not a smart move.

Tim Tebow Is Not A Role Model - Business Insider

Also I never said every athlete is a good role model. However, every athlete is a role model good or bad. Heck, you, me and every human is a role model. Some of us are good role models and some of us are bad role models. Some think they're role models some don't, but regardless we all are.

I am not sure when Britney was ever beloved by the christian community. However, she is definentely a bad role model. Jessica Simpson went through a rough divorce. Not sure if she is the best role model, but not the worst either. She's in between for me.

Anyways Brady6 lets rap this conversation up. You are skeptical and that's fine and you disagree with my stance cool. We have gone on long enough about role models etc. I will end by saying this there's not one negative story/article that I have ever found about Tebow the person. Found many negative articles about Tebow the football player though.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Lets please end it. Lets start talking about Dennard.

Also I never said every athlete is a good role model. However, every athlete is a role model good or bad. Heck, you, me and every human is a role model. Some of us are good role models and some of us are bad role models. Some think they're role models some don't, but regardless we all are.

Difference is me and you don't have a bunch of stage 5 clingers promoting us on every NFL fan site nationwide.

Right now you're using your platform to push people towards a man you don't even really know. That's a dangerous move my friend.

I am not sure when Britney was ever beloved by the christian community. However, she is definentely a bad role model. Jessice Simpson with through a rough divorce. Not sure if she is the best role model, but not the worst either. She's in between for me.

What about Joe Simpson? He's really lost some support in the Christian community. Was it the divorce, the DUI or the gay rumor? He was once the father everyone should be.

So I hear Dennard won't be cut despite what happen. Glad to here he's getting another chance. Lets hope he can stay out of trouble so he can focus on what's important his football career.

now what's next for Dennard?
