Deandre Hopkins Visiting Patriots Next Week

Makes no sense signing Hopkins.

The Pats will never get younger at WR if they keep signing old goats. Thornton needs as many targets as he can catch if he is ever going to be something. Boutee as well.
C'mon Triumph: you see our hard upcoming schedule a very good vet like D-Hop could be the difference between winning and losing. He could make the other WR's around him better drawing harder coverages. We could stash one of those young guys on IR I mean Parker and Bourne won't be here in 2024.

Thornton is more likely to have a breakout year with Hopkins. Hopkins will draw the best CB and double coverage. This will give Thornton favorable match ups.

The some of the best offenses these days tend to have not one, but two #1 quality WRs (Hill and Waddle, Chase and Higgins, Brown and Smith, Allen and Williams, Evans and Godwin). I don't get why we wouldn't want a #1 quality WR like Hopkins to pair with Thornton who hasn't proven he is #1 quality (at least not yet).

And Boutee isn't even guaranteed to be on the roster this year. And you think he is going to play so much that Hopkins is going to steal reps from him if added?

And if Hopkins is added, Parker is likely gone since Parker is just a lesser quality Hopkins who cannot stay healthy.
Bourne only started 2 games last season. Thats going to change.

The Pats have young WRs who need to see the ball. Thats how DK Metcalf made his name with 100 targets as a rookie.

The deep ball is not even Corky Macs game. Stick with Parker who is plenty good.

Ummm..... If you think Hopkins is a deep ball WR, you are grossly misinformed. Hopkins is the same player Parker is except much better and not injury prone. He is a slower (but not slow) receiver who just has an a great ability to get open or win most of the time with contested balls. He is not burner.

It almost seems that you don't want Hopkins because you are afraid that Jones will have a good year and be the Patriots' QB going forward.

I will be very disappointed if we don't get him we need a player like D-Hop we would be instant contenders with him screw the rebuild. D-Hop - Juju and Thornton would be a really good Trio make it happen BB we have the $$$$$$$.

The addition of Hopkins would immediately turn the Patriots' receiving corp a below average receiving corp to a top 10 receiving corp. They have a lot good #2 and #3 WR, but not a true #1. Hopkins is a true #1 even if he may be declining a bit.

Now I'm curious to see how many of you are going to do a 180 if Hopkins signs with the Pats suddenly he won't be washed up lol
Just wait if he signs, then you'll see the 180 on the board. I still think he's heading down the Julio Jones - AJ Green cliff.

The Pats have cap space, so it worth a shot for Mac.

They've tried through the draft and it simply hasn't worked out. Thornton has to earn the targets, you can't force it if it's not happening (and at best he's still a question mark heading into the season). Hopkins has been an elite WR throughout his career and he will represents a significant upgrade to our WR corps.

Look at just the AFC East...

Allen --> Diggs & Davis
Tua --> Hill & Waddle
Rodgers --> Wilson & Lazard

Mac --> JuJu & Parker is a distant fourth among these divisional groups. Then add in some of the other QB/WR groupings in the remainder of the conference (CIN, BAL, CLE, JAX, KAN, LAC... DEN is going to be better, Garoppolo will make some noise with LVR if he's healthy, and I like what PIT is building around Pickett). Mac's not an elite quarterback like many of these others guys (Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert, Lamar, Watson, Rodgers, and Lawrence specifically) so he especially needs a very strong supporting cast. I like Tua, but is he really that good (NFL best passer rating of 105.5)?... probably not but he looked like an MVP candidate with Hill and Waddle running circles around helpless DBs.

I want to see a fair fight. Mac --> Hopkins, JuJu, Parker, Bourne, Henry, Gesicki, and a very strong run game led by Stevenson... that's an offense I can start to believe in for the 2023 season.

It's odd that the Patriots announced on social media they are hosting Hopkins...I've never seen them do that before to FAs

I smell what you're cooking... But...

Mac - and by extension the NEP - needs help Now. Slogging through yet another below-.500 season isn't going to do anybody any good, vets & kids alike. This season is a crossroad not just for him but for the franchise as well; one year from now we will either have had his option picked-up and an extension will be in the works, or we will have a Dead Man Walking at both QB & HC/Grocery-Shopper, if either of them make it that far.
Signing Hopkins should make that decision more clear; and I don't want to leave any doubt in either direction.

It's counter-intuitive to worry more about the development of BoneyT & Booty - two stiffs whom I would never, EVER have drafted where they were taken anyway - than about Mac's... If we had Pickens/Pierce & AT Perry, on the other hand...

Hopkins - JuJu - Parker
Dawghouse - Double-D - BoneyT/Booty

I agree with Crawhammer that acquiring Hopkins should Not mean the release of Parker; we can't afford to lose Any decent WR!

Yep Cleary looks washed up there.

I am not sure if you didn't get that he was being sarcastic or agreeing with him. I will assume the latter, but I just wanted to point it out anyway that he was being sarcastic.

Good post it's already been stated Mac10 is not the kind of QB who can make guys around him better it's the other way around. You can win like that in Todays NFL get D-Hop and we are playing for the Division not Second or Third place.

I get it Rob I am huge fan of D-Hop from Meyers to D-Hop Mac will be Great!

Rap on boutte is good at contested stuff, but ran a very simple route tree.

Ability to pick up pro offense will be the question

Parker?? I remember a game which he had 55 snaps and one measly target that has stuck in my craw we need better! I am hoping Thornton beats him out in TC and Parker gets cut I don't like his skill set for our O.

Metcalf was a merely decent 3-cone/short-shuttle away from being drafted right where Deebo Samuel & AJ Brown (& somebody else) were drafted;

BoneyT & Booty are not worthy to unfasten the laces on Metcalf's cleats.

Coach cap we are hearing good things about Thornton with D-Hop he would not be facing Elite coverage which he should be able to destroy with his speed we have a real OC now who will use him correctly.

I am all for Hopkins but it would be nice if our 2nd round pick receiver wasn’t at the bottom of the receiving depth chart.

With BOB I think we will have a lot of two TE. I can see Gesicki and Henry being targeted a lot. Juju will eat a lot of target two.

So how will Thornton get target with Hopkins, Juju, Bourne, Gesicki and Henry ? Can’t feed everybody. It could be another case if we are in year 3 and we still don’t know what our 2nd pick receiver is.
