Crap, McDaniels May be Raider Top Choice Now

If McDaniels goes to the Raiders, all I have to say is

Godspeed.

I think Josh is smart enough to see that this would be a terrible situation for him to begin his head coaching career in, and he will probably stay with BB a couple more years until he establishes himself and realizes what exactly he is getting into. His time will come, no reason for him to go to the mess in Oakland when he is only 30.

Josh isn't gone yet, Al davis is going after young assistants like Lofton and sarkasian, but these young assistants have taken themselves out of consideration. They are not stupid and neither is Mcdaniel.

I think, like them, Mcdaniel will see this as a horrible step and stay with the Pats. At least having been considered as a HC candidate will enhance his resume.

I don't see turning down the Raiders job being viewed negatively by another organization when considering him in the future.

What does Al think of Bill Belichick's son? He's really showcased his writing-on-clipboard skills this year. It might just be too much for Davis to resist.

I know I could be in the minority, but they can take him if he wants to go. Though he has been decent, he certainly hasn't been anything to brag about as an OC. That's not to put him down, it's just that he has been an OC for year, and in the year, the game plans have not been anything special.

In the end, I see him turning it down. Why does Oakland have a h*rd-on for him? Simply cause he OC'd Brady & Co. for a year? Mangini, while only having a year of experience as a DC, at least was a student of Belichick's for a long time. Who has McD been a student of? Weis?

In the end, even if he goes, I would actually look forward to another OC. And I am not putting McD down. It's just that his departure isn't the same as a Weis/Crennel/Mangini to me.

I think Josh Mcdaniels will not go to Oakland, for 3 reasons

1 More loyal to BB

2 He just is not ready

3 Its the Raiders...

The Pats win the AFCCG and then there are two weeks before the SB. By rule, McDaniels is allowed to interview this week, so either way Al Davis gets a chat with him this week.

JMcD is a smart kid, and he understands the game. That said, he is at LEAST 5 years away from being a capable head coach in this league.

No one has mentioned the fact that even a "disiplinarian" like Art Shell couldn't handle the punks on that team (Namely Moss and Porter), so why on earth would they listen to a guy who is their age, or younger, and has been in the league for a shorter time than they have?

If I were Rob Ryan I would take this as an insult. As far as I am concerned he was the only bright spot in this team's dismal season. He brought a laughing stock of a defense to a very respectable unit.

For him to be overlooked by someone like McDaniels who imo has been good,{not great} but in no way warrants a Head Coaching job, is kind a punch in the gut.

I don't understand them not hiring Ryan and then getting some young, creative offensive coordinator and save money in the process.

Wow if McDaniels is their top choice I hope they are ready to be turned down again. Something tells me that Josh knows he needs a little more seasoning. And taking on the Raiders right now would be a suicide mission.

There's no where to go but up with the Raiders.

The problem with McDaniels leaving the Pats is that it ends the continuity that was developed under Weis's offense. A new O-Coord will want to run his own system. That's the big negative.

Hello Brian Daboll?

I mean he could be a worthy successor to McDaniels as OC...

It's possible Jeff Davidson could come back if the position were available. Cleveland wouldn't have to let him leave but they're interviewing others for their OC job, if someone else gets it they may let Davidson go if offered a Coordinator job (although they wouldn't have to). Daboll is an equally logical possibility.

On the veteran side, doesn't Belichick think highly of Dan Henning who was let go in Carolina ? I seem to recall he might.

Is the Radiers worst shape than the Jets of a year ago?????Jets where bad due to injury and Herm.....Josh STAY..........GO PATS!!!!:rocker:

I believe Brian Daboll recommended Josh McDaniel, his pal from MSU, for a job in 2001. There was speculation when Charlie left as to which one of the two would get the OC job. I imagine if Josh left, which I doubt he would just yet let alone for THAT hell hole of a job, Daboll would likely be next in line for promotion. I'm sure BB has lots of assistants working their way up the ranks just that we don't hear too much about them.

There is no logical reason to bring in an outsider to run an in house offense. Makes no more sense than turning it over to an aging third string QB who has never coached a day in his life.
