Cowboys Dak sign deal

This deal is rankling Chiefs fans which I am enjoying reading over on the Planet. There is no way Mahomes plays out his 10 year deal IMO with how ridiculous the QB market is right now. Lamar is probably going to make more than Dak.

Also, I would think Rodgers was on the horn with Lafleur as soon as this deal was inked.

Anyone else think Dallas caved and this was a PR move?

Yeah, Mahomes actually signed a very team friendly deal - people get too caught up on the $45 million / year. Cap will be a lot higher by the time he's actually getting that and the deal will look very reasonable.

Then what was the weak link on the Cowboys?

good defense, elite running back. Not lacking in offensive weapons.

How did they average only 9 wins over 2017-2019?

All thats left is Quarterback.

I really don't see how Dak Prescott is any better than JimmyG.
Defense was trash last year and the team got noticeably worse when Dak went down this year. Aside from the that you had the Zeke suspension that one year. Nobody in Dallas thinks Dak is the problem. In San Fran the coach clearly puts a leash on Jimmy and his implosion costed them a SB. Cowboys fans would consider Dak leaving a nightmare scenario. Niner’s fans are hoping there is a spot to get a return on Jimmy. Jimmy is also far more injury prone while Dak only had one freak injury despite playing more physical.

I certainly hope he does. It will cripple the Ravens.

A QB that cannot throw the ball accurately making 40M a year? Just do it! Will eliminate them as a contender for a long time.

Yeah. Signing for 10 years basically guarantees the Chiefs get a bunch of below value years on the back end. The 4th-6th year might be tight, but the cap will go up a lot and it will be cheap.

20% of your cap tied up in one guy hell yeah that's how you put together a winner if it was the NBA.

You honestly think he'll play for the below value years? When QBs will be getting 60mil/year by then?

Does your QB/ Team Wins simulator factor in the other 52 players on each team?

The Bucs did happen to complement their homegrown fleet of offensive weaponry with a host of new offensive studs to assist Brady/Tampa in their +4 win gain year over year.
All Pro TE
All Pro WR
#4 draft pick RB
All Pro RB (limited by injury)
1st rd Tackle

+4 Brady did get Tampa +2 pts/gm year over year

The unmentioned Tampa D which apparently has no statistical relevance in your simulator limited opponents by 6 pts/gm year over year.
--------------------------------
My hypothesis:
Brady is a +4 recruiter

Brady didn't have the effect he should have last year due to the lack of an off-season. Let's be teal though. Gronk and AB weren't all pro last year. They had some nive stretches though. Fournette didn't come on till the playoffs. The rookie tackle absolutely had an effect.

As far as the effect Brady had, it isn't just points or yards, but where they were. Last year they were basically an average team. 7-9 almost 8-8. They may have finished only 11-5 but they were even better in those final 4 games and in the playoffs. They were playing more like a team that typically goes 13-3/14-2 at that point. A large part of that was Brady, but it was other guys too, as you said.

It was only near the end of the year and in the playoffs we were really able to see the difference.

yep, because unless they are cap alchemists, they won't win a SB with that contract unless the cap jumps 100 mil next year

Imagine a world where every team pays their QB $30-40m and Bucs pay $25m. Explain to me why Bucs would be at a disadvantage cap-wise against other teams.

What you say doesn’t make sense. This has nothing to do with cap. It’s all relative.

2023 and 2024 they will be allocating too much of their total cap to the QB position

For raging against the insane money involved here, I'm thinking a ranking system. And, naturally, because the idea is really about inspiring discussion, I'm going to throw it out to you fine people (and to the jackwagons, too). So, counting only those quarterbacks who were their teams' starters last year, or who are already certain to become starters this year in place of last year's starters, and not counting this year's pending draftees:

  • Who's definitely better than Dak?
  • Who's definitely worse than Dak?
  • Who's in the same fungible group with Dak?
