Collinsworth: "Uh Oh!! Don't Let Tom Brady Have a SECOND TE Who Can Play!"

Just a little stat tidbit

Wright in only 19 snaps- 5 rec on 5 targets 85 yard 1 TD. Nice block that helped spring Ridley for that 40 yard run.

Guy made the most of his snaps.

And he will only get better with time in the system......

What was great last night on that Ridley run was that (IIRC) Collinsworth immediately opined that such a good original edge may have been a hold on the outside by Wright that sprung Ridley. Then the replay clearly showed that not to be the case and he quickly gave up on that line of thought.

You are batting .500 there.

1) Yes, BIG win for the Pats last night.

2) You may want to look up the definition of trolling, because it ISN'T defined by holding someone's oft-stated opinion accountable when the opposite occurs.

So, despite your order, I will continue to do so, thank you very much. We all own our posted opinions.

"Maude Troll"?

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going to defend Deus here (cue his "I don't need YOUR defense" post....)

He was actually giving props to an OL that is missing it's All-World 32 year old, overpaid LG. If anything, that is an admission that it is POSSIBLE to survive without Mankins.

Yeah, Deus will give a faint praise to the other point of view to show his "objectivity". It is usually like last night where he obviously could not argue that the o-line missed Mankins.

Of course he would rather admit the o-line played well than that the Pats got a good player in the Mankins trade.

I will lay off Deus for now on this because it was a bad day yesterday for his argument that trading Mankins was a monumentally stupid move. Not only did Wright have a good game, but Mankins got blown up to give up a safety that help cost the Bucs the game yesterday.

Those seams are the routes that open up the playbook, if we can get those TE's out in those seams quickly, these defenses may step back a little...also noticed Wright turned his head a lot faster, he was ready for the ball and TFB knew it...just a good game from him and 87 is getting his legs back up under him...just one game but enough positives for the haters to back up into the bushes like Homer Simpson...

Since that's not my "oft stated opinion", you're now lying as well as trolling. Congrats.

Not to worry, certain no it alls will tell you Wright is only a TE in name only. So they really only have one real TE on the roster.
Do you think the "no" it alls "no" how to spell"no" ....because they are "no" it alls?......ya "no"

From where I was sitting Tim Wright looked very at home and comfortable. Great to see.

So you are saying that I certainly do not know it all?

hopefully Wright and the OL can keep it up

even though a certain poster will be hoping they fail......

never doubt BB

Of course in the post game on CSN, Felger (#Dbag) was hinting that the Patriots' successful use of the double tight end set was mostly due to Cincinnati's poor defending, not due to Gronkowski, Wright, and Brady's ability/execution....On Toucher & Rich this am they were saying the formation won't be "as" successful against Buffalo because "there's tape of the 2 TE set"......

There's a big difference between saying he's a second-year conversion project (which he is) and he's a TE in name only (which he isn't). He hasn't looked like a great blocker, but I don't expect him to be one. Hernandez wasn't either. I hope that he can get to being reliably serviceable, and last night was a positive indicator that he's getting there.

It's also worth noting that most of those concerns were voiced when he was reported to be about ~15-20 pounds lighter than the eye test says he is.

Yes, Wright is a TE in name only. I don't know why this seems to bother people around here. Hernandez was more of an h-back/Swiss Army knife of a player than a true TE, and people had no problem admitting to that.

So long as Wright is a play making, matchup nightmare when out there, he can be our version of Julius (the worst blocking TE in the game) Thomas and I'm perfectly happy.

I guess it depends on how you define a TE. If he frequently lines up next to the OT, and the offense makes a concerted effort to run behind him when a secondary player is matched up on him (see Ridley's 40 yard run last night), that's more or less a TE in my book. Especially now that it's been pretty clearly ruled that Jimmy Graham is a TE, despite many people--myself included--feeling that he's more a giant slot receiver.

That said, at the same time I agree with your assessment. He's even less of a 'true' TE than Hernandez was, who himself wasn't a traditional 'true' TE.

Hopefully, they are wise enough to give Wright more reps. He's obviously got the ability .....

Why are they calling him a rookie when he's a 2nd year player?

The difference was the OL. Wright was a beneficiary, not a cause. Brady had a pocket he could step up in. He could throw without worrying about what was going on at his feet.

To me it seemed that Brady had a pocket because both Gronk and Wright were dragging the LBs and DBs that were blitzing the first four weeks down the field with them when they ran their seam routes. TFB helped himself with quick decisions and quick releases. The play calling helped both of these aspects.

Mankins got blown up to give up a safety that help cost the Bucs the game yesterday.

People seem to forget that Mankins was a liability in pass blocking last year.

...People seem to forget that Mankins was a liability in pass blocking last year.

People continue to act as if that's some hard truth. It's not. The notion that Mankins was a passing liability is wildly overblown, thanks to the idiots at PFF, and the bigger fools who are willing to believe PFF.

Relax OP, you are also talking down on Mankins who went into NO yesterday and played great giving Glennon time to put up some numbers.

One week, lets give Wright some more time.

.........and they will complain about no talent at the WR receiver position........because Wright is a TE.
