Yes, he is. The game is starting to pass by him, unfortunately.
Other than his snap counts where do you see the visible decline? Vs the run? Coverage?

Not debating ...I just haven't noticed it.

I'm not sure I can decipher between who is declining and who is blowing coverages.

Hiya sports fans!...Let's RIP THIS JOINT!

It's across the board- he's not playing at the same level as he did in 2014-15. If you've noticed, you'll now see McCourty where Chung usually is. We've started going McCourty-Harmon, and the thing to remember is that Harmon is a pure FS, which means McCourty is now SS and taking over responsibilities that Chung used to have (covering the slot, covering RBs as LB, covering TE's as SS).

I don't understand much about defense but I'd like to see them go with a basic defense with as few packages as possible instead of changing every week according to the opponent because right now it seems they can't get anything right because there is too much information.

Maybe there is a little something to this. Maybe the defense is too complex right now?

My impression of Chung in his prime is quick to the ball with hard tackles and quickness inside 15 yards.

I don't recall seeing a lot of that this year but since the whole defense has been substandard I really haven't considered it

I have noticed DMC closer up on the line more frequently but did not notice Chung out.

Interesting

Interesting
Chung only played 54% of snaps Sunday.

66 game 1
97 game 2
73 game 3

This might sound a little silly but our defenders need to have a pizza party or some sort of casual meeting together some night. *IF* the team pulls out a win Thursday, they will have a day or two to consider such a gathering.

This might sound silly too, but maybe they can bring Zeke Mowatt back and have a *********** in the shower??

It’s concerning that Richards might get called into more action as Chung seems to be struggling.

In the short term I would simplify things by limiting the number of coverage shells used to cover 3, cover 2 man, and cover 1 robber. Keep Harmon at FS and McCourty at SS on passing downs. Concentrate on not getting beat deep. Settle for a "bend not break" defense style that focuses game-planning on preventing TDs in the red-zone. Hope that you are able to force enough FG's rather than TDs for your offense to win a shutout.

Chung is a limited use player. When you add to his duties, you set him up for failure.
Agree but over the last 3 years the limited use got him on the field 99% of the time . Now I guess he's more limited

Chung's gradual reduction is playing time is concerning.
His regression in man coverage is also very concerning. He played so well in that regard in 2014. There was a slight dip in 2015. He was up and down in 2016. And he has sucked at it so far in 2017. He really is an unsung hero on the D and things seem to flow differently when he's playing well. I hope he can regain his 2014 form.

As for what I expect to see: I expect to see a team that tackles better going forward. They're having so many issues right now, but tackling well has always been a hallmark of a BB coached D, even when they've given up big offensive numbers. Eric Rowe's plays in the Pathers game are two prime examples. Both McCaffery and Funchess could have been stopped before the sticks on both plays, but they both get the first down . . . and if I'm not mistaking, both of those drives ended in TD's. Pathetic. That is something that has nothing to do with communication, scheme or anything else. You see guy with ball, bring guy with ball down.
