Changes coming - And an FYI on potential actions

Personally I’m excited for the 2023 season and to finally see the results of this rebuild. Go Pats!
Same here - In my lifetime this team has gone from Molly Hatchett to Queen, with a bit of Beck thrown in. It will be interesting to see what this year's album brings.

I've been busy dealing with some personal things, but as we head into the next month, there will be some changes here on the board. One of the biggest is the fact I'm growing tired of seeing many of the same arguments happening over and over, with individuals who have developed a habit of spamming opinions over and over again.

I don't have an issue with people disagreeing or having differing opinions. However, they don't need to be constantly repeated. I've let things go for a while, and while the updated user changes with the mute functions have helped significantly - and that was the spirit behind it - there are still some who post many of the same things over and over in various forms.

That's going to need to end. It's disruptive to the community, and it makes it difficult when it's brought up in threads that aren't even about that. Instead, one post causes a topic to go way too far off course, and there are some individuals who make a habit of it.

I'm working on a moderation mute that will cut posts/exchanges off within a given thread so that only the people involved will see them, while shielding other users from being subjected to them. That's step one, as it will allow myself and @Ross12 to quickly at least mute the exchange and allow it to continue without impacting other users within the thread who would rather not see two (or more) people going at it.

That's step one. Step two is going to be issuing thread bans if it becomes an issue of the same people making/having the same arguments, and it could possibly include further action from there.

Enough is enough. I get some people feel a certain way, and I'm not telling you how to think. But bringing it up over and over is something that's gone on for the last 5+ months (for some, it's far longer), and it will not be permitted moving forward.

We're headed into a new season, and it's time for some of you to start using the board for what it's intended, and that's for people who are a fan of the team who at least have the outlook on the fact it's a clean slate and that this team should at least be competitive.

Brady's gone, and we're in an era where for now, if the offense can score some points, they've built a pretty good defense that will keep them in most games and give them a shot. That's the world we live in now, and the days of being the automatic favorite are obviously over. That being said, as "bad" as they were last season, they were in every game until late, even against top teams. In fact, a few plays here or there could have flipped several of them.

We're not the Browns. Or the Texans. Some of you have never endured a 5-11 (or worse) season. Things could be significantly worse.

It's not about 'drinking the kool-aid', it's about the fact that sitting in a room full of people who constantly say "this player/coach/team sucks" is not enjoyable for anybody.

So please start being mindful of that. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it's making many of the threads tough to read.

It's time to turn the page to the 2023 season. We've got some OTAs left before they break for camp, so let's continue keeping an eye on that and put all the other stuff in the rearview.
I have a suggestion. What if you created a Trash Can thread and you moved all posts that weren’t on topic into there? Then instead of needing to moderate all the off topic posts you can send them there and let the miserables have one big thread to themselves?

You seriously think they are equal? Same impact? Same contributions? Dude, do you even Forum? Everyone knows that all the success came from one side!

You have my vote

I don’t care, I can’t stand it
@Ian is a sub .500 admin without @Ross12
So Ian = BB, Ross = TB12?

I’m so glad to see volunteers eager to help Ian test his Moderator Mute function. Or did he call it Moderation Mute? Maybe moderator mute is when we all tune them out and go rogue on every thread?

anyway, sounds like great ideas. Looking forward to enjoying the results of these well earned changes.

and the more Ian discusses such functions the more my developer instincts want to geek out on his codebase. This board is a sweet application!

THANKS IAN!

It's your right to legislate thoughts that don't align with your opinion, there's no doubt you've tried many different ways to do this. Good luck.

Again, not an issue with the opinion. It’s repeating it over and over in various threads that in some cases have nothing to do with that opinion. If the opinion is relevant in a thread, then it’s a different story.

Not that I didn’t expect this eventual type of reaction (you’re not the first to mention it). Still, I think it’s safe to say censorship here has absolutely been minimal.

And rather than remove people, the plan will be to mute the exchanges between those posters for the sake of the rest of the community. I’ve actually taken more heat privately for allowing this, which I think sheds light on the fact I’m more than trying to be fair.

However, this is a forum that does require moderation, and spamming the same thing over and over and derailing threads isn’t going to be permitted. Period.

The fact I’m even taking time to build this on a mod level rather than take the easy way out and start implementing thread bans using that existing function I would like to think speaks some volumes. But I’m aware of those who I’ve tried to please who privately disagree.

And while I know I can’t please everyone, it doesn’t change the fact I will always continue to try and be patient and fair. As trying as that may often be ;)

So again, and I stated this in the opener, you can say whatever you want and I’m not telling anyone how to think. But if you go into a guy’s house or bar and just sit there and say the same thing over and over and annoy everybody, eventually it does lead to an issue.

Me doing this is essentially letting that person stay while allowing everyone else to carry on. I feel like that’s more than fair.

Albeit, habitual offenders may be the ones who have an issue, which I’d prefer to avoid. But this can’t continue and I’m aware there will be some who may be unhappy. “It is what it is.”

Good explanation, @Ian.

I am of the camp that believes in allowing things to occur organically….but your explanation made me see it the other way…hard to please everyone.

Maybe I missed it and just for clarification…can I post constantly in a bazaar sexual attraction for players on different teams without repercussions…such as other teams QB’s? Asking for a friend. Thanks .

Edit: I wasn’t referring to Tampa but all good @Ian
