It’s kind of stupid but it could be much better. Most of the games are in this “Group Stage” which isn’t really a group stage. The reliance on point differential is just moronic. There were some bizarre scenarios last year and might be this year as well.I know the tournament’s not going anywhere so I should try to care, but I just hate it.
But why go through all that just to get a grand total of 7 knockout games? That’s what the fans actually want to see. It should also not be conference based. Everyone would want to see Celtics-Lakers, Celtics-Thunder, Lakers-Knicks or a whole slew of other knockout games which is like a mini game 7.
Instead, we have 7 games, which featured the Pelicans and Kings last year and Hawks and Magic this year. Most of the league’s premier teams weren’t even in these featured games. And the issue isn’t that underdogs advanced, it’s that there was no actual spectacle / upset moment that allowed them to advance…all just seeming randomness.
