Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

We all have bias, and we always believe our team was victimized by the refs. I didn't really agree with the goaltending call either, and I'm sure there were other bad calls, including many from this list. I can't make a list of all the calls the refs missed for Dallas, but I'm sure a Mavs fan could.

This is just my eyes, I don't have hard data. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe the Celtics are getting away with murder, nor do I think the calls or lack thereof are affecting the final outcomes. The number of free throws has been close to even. I just feel like the Celtics are being much more aggressive than Dallas at both ends, which would typically lead to more calls against them. That hasn't happened, at least not yet.
I didn’t like the way the game was reffed because I felt they were blowing the whistle too much in general, although it’s hard to quibble with most of the calls on replay.

Some calls went against us, a key no call went our way at the end. Both things can be true. Mavs shouldn’t have wasted that challenge in the first quarter.

The ugly:
I'm no NBA coach and would not profess myself to be smarter than one. I'm also old school and I understand how the game has changed. That said, I don't support Joe's notion that Boston should continue to shoot 3's in a close game no matter how many they've missed. They have shown again and again they are all capable of finishing in the paint and drawing fouls, and have been very good from the line (95% last night). I would say so far the officiating has favored Boston in this series. Force Dallas to play defense inside, get them in foul trouble, and get free throws. This is the formula right now. It was only by the grace of God that Dallas was equally horrible from the arc. Boston could have easily lost this game had Dallas even been a bit proficient in this reregard
Actually the officiating has been pretty even so far this series. IIRC, in both games the free throws attempted have been about the same in both games. The Cs had 1 more in game 1,and the Mav's had 4 more attempts in game 2.

There have been a few blown calls, but even those seem to happen evenly. All in all I think the officiating has been great. They are letting both teams play and there have been few ticky-tack fouls, the touch fouls that always piss- me off and slow the game down.

At least in my opinion this series has been very well officiated.

I agree the number of free throws have been about the same for both teams. That said I feel like Boston has been much more aggressively on the defensive end than Dallas, going for more blocks and steals. Typically this type of defense would result in more fouls on the aggressive team.

Overall I agree, the officiating hasn't been terrible.

One thing the league could do in general is not allow offensive players to use their arm to batter the defender on almost every play.

We should still sweep without KP. And boy oh boy do we need to find a big in the off-season to replace Al.

Sounds like KP might still try to give it a go... Really was hoping he could stay healthy for just one series. Make no mistake that this will be alot harder without KP. Assuming he doesn't go. We should still be able to close it out though.

Doesn't look like KP will play. Still think this team can win 2 out of 5 games based on defense alone. They gotta figure it out.

Dr. Daniel Kharrazi, an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai and former #Lakers consultant, told @BostonGlobe he's seen a injury like Porzingis' once in 25 years. He was optimistic about Porzingis' ability to play:

"A lot of times the ankle and the tendon can be taped to allow play. There are even some braces that they can use that helps protect the tendon. I don’t think it’s something that he’s gonna make worse by just playing, especially if he’s just running up and down the court and even some lateral movements may be OK.

“This can be a repetitive issue if he has awkward landings or with his foot in certain positions that causes subluxation of the tendon. I don’t think it’s a season-ending injury. It is day-to-day and they have to reassess him. It’s something they’ll have to treat with either taping or bracing and then reassess to see if it’s stable enough for him to play.” #Celtics #Mavericks #NBAFinals

Not unlike Curt Schilling's bloody sock.

I'm definitely not relying on the refs, just noting so far the calls have gone the C's way so far. I would take advantage until that stops being the case.
No the reffing has changed been pretty. much even. Over 2 games Dallas have had 3 more FG attempts than the Cs and the missed calls are pretty much even as well.

Be prepared for a whole lot of limping around and grimacing if the Mavericks are losing
Yep, and there'll be a lot of videos and tons of chatter in the media about it too.
The excuses are being loaded up and are ready to go.
I hope they all get a chance to use them real soon.

Maybe I've missed it but I don't recall seeing that done before. White went into the air behind the play and spun around in the air and got in front of the ball for the block. I had to watch it again to see if I saw it correctly.

“There should have been a foul called“ lmao
The funny thing about that was the one time there was a view from another angle it clearly showed that Brown didn't push him at all.

Could have sworn they were going against the greatest offensive backcourt iN nBa HiStoRy!
Including "one of the best players this game has ever seen" at guard. The same guy who has less than 30 points in two games and looks like a turnstile on defense.

The one constant all season is the C's defense. I don't care about stats, C's D is the best in the nba.Period.
And they also happen to have the best offense in the league.
They have at least 6 players who are good to great at both ends of the floor.

Well, P’s injury sort of takes the air out of that

Even more on Tatum now

The C's can do it with or without Porzingis and it wouldn't be an excuse if they ended up losing. The C's record without him has been great this year.

Right now Dallas needs to win 4 out of 5 to win the title. A Dallas loss tonight would make that 4 out of 4. The odds of either happening are slim.
