Butler's agent in search for 1st rounder + big contract

They can't negotiate crap. If they offer sheet Butler they have to give up their original #1.
True, but they can indeed negotiate something like that if all parties are willing. The Patriots would have to be willing to take less than the #11, and Butler himself would have to do a sort of "sign and trade," but it can be done if all parties wanted.

If the Saints offered #32 for Butler, and Butler was willing to sign the necessary paperwork (meaning he had a separate deal hashed out with NO in advance) then it could be done.

Man I really hope we just keep him... Its probably gonna be like the Chandler Jones trade and we just end up with a second rounder and some **** player
Possibly.

Butler could certainly find himself teetering on the border of first/second round compensation. Not that my opinion matters any, but that's probably where I'd have it. He's small but he's physical, and he plays with a lot of heart.

Not sure you can replace Butler that easily, but Butler has nothing on Wilfork and Mankins having to play out SIX seasons to get their contract. Insane people are blaming BB...

Same people who support those players who take very last dime versus best situation are the same people who are probably cheering little Butler on in his fight. It a shame really. A first AND a big contract? Delusion city.

I'd like Butler fire his garbage agent and hen the two sides try again.

If you personally had the seasons that MB had..won us a SB ect...and saw someone bring in someone else to take your spot getting paid top 4 CB $$...you would be a little pissed off no matter what situation.

I get he waited longer to get his deal ect ect. But you have to admit you would be ticked off hearing that news
I guess if you had a pea brain that couldn't understand the basic economics of the league you play in..

That's true as well, but in the grand scheme of things he certainly isn't getting screwed. But I could see how he would be annoyed. Blaming BB is bs.

He already did screw it. Not screwing it would mean he has a team that is willing to take Butler on his terms before messing with BB like that.

Searching for teams on DAY 4 of FA would suggest some malpractice in evaluations and self-evaluations.

Of course it can still end ok for Butler. Gamblers get lucky too..

It is impossible to know who is to blame here if anyone...regardless of what so called experts like Volin and Giardi want to say. At best, maybe they have small bits of information and not the whole picture.
This situation is analogous to the Bronco's situation with Chris Harris in 2014 (see link below); not the absolute dollars..but Harris was a RFA with a 2nd round tender and Broncos had a #1 CB VERY big bucks (Talib). I think Elway handled it nicely.

For whatever reason, things have spun out of control. It's is too bad because having 2 top flight CBs like the Broncos really allows for you to build a very strong D.

I do think that Butler does need to realize that if he wants to get the big contract a year earlier than he is entitled to, compromise on total dollars is necessary.

Chris Harris agrees to 5-year, $42.5M contract extension with Broncos – The Denver Post

Hard to comprehend . Much like the trade the farm Cs fans....

Maybe Butler should stop being a crybaby and worry about himself instead of focusing on what everyone else has in their bank accounts.

I hope we can get a first whether its from a trade or offer sheet. That way we can use it on another CB in a deep draft and pair him w/ Gilmore for 5 years on cheap cheap money.

While the team holds his rights, it's also hard to imagine a guy like Belichick putting up with that nonsense and/or putting another player through a pointless process.
Bill Belichick will do what is best for the team and not take anything personally. Just look at every Ty Law did during the 2004 offseason. Whose uniform was Law wearing when the following season started?

No. If the Saints make an offer that the Pats don't want to match, then New England is entitled to their #11 pick. Period. That should remain part of the bargain. The Saint can take Malcolm, with the reassurance that Belichick will not match.

Butler's agent screwed him when he went to the Pats after 1 year of being a starter and asked for a big deal.. Belichick knew then and there. Really hope for Malcolm's sake whatever team does give him a deal he brings the deal to an actual agent or a sports lawyer to look over.

Just know this about Butler's agent, when he sold Butler's life story rights for that movie he also sold his, apparently it was a packaged deal or it was no deal That's who this guy is.

Why would the Patriots be willing to take a lower pick when they have all the leverage to get a higher one?

No matter what...this bridge is burned
We'll see, things got real bad with Wilfork and Mankins and even Branch who ultimately came home. We almost brought Law back a few times. BB certainly doesn't hold grudges. That'd be on Butler if it were burned.

"Yeah son. He made maybe the greatest play in Boston Sports history as an undrafted player. He then came back as the #1 CB after the JEST overpaid Revis and we won another Superbowl two years later!

His clueless agent then ran him out of town and he wasn't part of the 6th ring"

This situation is dumb
