Butler's agent in search for 1st rounder + big contract

He went to the Pats after 1 season as a starter and asked for a top market deal.. No good agent would do this.
You have GOT to be kidding me. You don't think agents go to teams looking for new deals following a client's good season??

Happens all the time. In this case, no deal was signed so it's silly to criticize and agent for asking for more money.
People really need to go look at Gronk's extension 2 years into his rookie to deal to see how the whole taking less to get a bump now works and he did that after he had the greatest season by a TE ever.
You mean Gronk, the guy who the entire planet agrees is significantly underpaid? Nothing says "brilliant agent" like having the best TE in football be paid far, far less than his market value.

I am confused about the holdout predicted for butler.

Does not butler have to sign his tender by April or June or he could wind up with a 10% raise over last year's salary?

June 15. And the Patriots apparently did do that to Mankins.

Well that's on his inexperienced, incompetent agent. It's pretty much an unwritten rule that when a player wants a deal before they are a UFA that they take less to buy off the low-cost team controlled years (see Gronk) If Butler went to the Pats and said 4 years/$40m he would get it. Instead Pats have him for $3.9m this year and have no incentive to give him a huge deal and yet he's sitting there wanting 5 years/$65m after 2 years of good play. There is absolutely no reason why the Pats would give that a year earlier than they should unless they had an incentive to which was Butler giving them a discount but getting a bump in pay.

Exactly how I see it even down to the numbers.

He should fire his agent. He won't be calling the shots here. He won't be the one to choose the team if multiple teams are interested.
Of course he can choose the team, at least insofar as being able to veto any team he doesn't like. It is not like he is forced to just agree to any deal that any team offers him.

I would say that if he could stay healthy.

I think Butler and his camp are playing with fire... You can't mess with Hoodie. His stupid agent needs to learn Bill won't accept any crap from anyone, even more so in this situation, Butler is a RFA, he can't do ****. If he refuses to play, he is going to waste a year of his prime.

Once Bill ships his ass to Cleveland, he will regret the day he hired his agent.

Food for thought:

Jaime Collins hated it so much he signed a 4 year deal to stay there.

Totally agree. I have no problem with Butler wanting to get paid but why should he get to play by different rules and skip his RFA year to get big money?

I got it, he got his money, but will he enjoy playing for the Browns?

I do not think so, losing 13-14 games a season is no joke.

I can see this is how the scenario played out. BB tried to extend Butler. Butlers agent came in and demanded 14-16 Million per year. BB explained to him how RFA works. Butlers agent refuses to budge. BB walks away and in a matter of hours had a deal worked out for Gilmore, and pulls the trigger on the deal. Now Butlers agent comes back and again demands huge money. BB tells him to take a hike. Remember the deal for Gilmore was made quick and fast. Just surmising but it looks like Butlers agent tried to play hardball with the wrong guy.

No surprises here I would be surprised if a contender didn't bite Butler would be a nice piece to the equation. Butler have earned a payday.

Collins is a different guy. I doubt Butler would want that much losing.
He seems imcredibly greedy he should be grateful he was at a damn Popeyes chicken. O team had him on there radar and we are the only team that would give him a fair chance to compete.
In my opinion he should be thanking God he's not out of the league or on a practice squad the movie deal is giving him a big head. I hope the relationship is repaired but if not he can go make a little more and play for a crap franchise.

Exactly.

And we win so many games every single year because Bill know this better than anyone.

He will never pay what Butler wants. Can you imagine the precedent?

If he wanted out, why not sign the tender and let BB trade him to NO. A trade was the best way out - the RFA route much more difficult due to the first round pick.

Because given their cap situation they would make him play on the $3.9m this year.

Wonder if he is going to add this situation to his movie. Maybe deleted scenes or an Extended "Butler Screwed Up" Edition.
