Butler the newest former Patriot to be slandered on the way out for no reason.
I wouldn't be so sure. My opinion is they may have discussed some trade value as it relates to the Cooks deal. But I think it became to tricky to line everything up and they went with completely different compensation. That trade is done and in the books. SP may have now moved onto Butler thinking he knows what BB might want but there is no obligation for BB to make this easy on SP. Maybe it will be but I think everyone has been way to quick to assume some sort of 2 part deal.This. If the Saints are close to signing Butler then a trade has been already been worked out between the teams. We just don't know the terms but will know soon. If no deal is reached then Butler will play here for 2017. I'm definitely fine with that.
At this point we don't know if it's his agent desire or Butler's, I will go with the latter.Would prefer to keep Butler...UNLESS, the Saints were crazy enough to give up the 11th.
This whole media mess surrounding Butler is silly. The eagerness of his agent to get paid is the real issue here.
Maybe if we make him some cupcakes.
Belichick wants Butler gone, so they're going to take less to get rid of him.If we'd get the 11th, do it. Anything lower, it's worth more, I think, to keep Butler another year, because this team is THAT close to back-to-back championships. After the year, we'll see where we are. It's quite possible making a deal with Butler might be EASIER than it would be now, given all the sturm und drang this year. (And thank you, PatsFans, for an opportunity to use "sturm und drang" in a post.)
Nothing. Makes. Sense. Except the fact that ray lewis killed a guy. That I understand
At this point we don't know if it's his agent desire or Butler's, I will go with the latter.
And I was thinking these days and came to a conclusion: In Bill I trust, whatever is the scenario.
The chances of them actually getting the #11 pick are remote. Don't take RFA rules too literally. Usually what happens is teams work out a different agreement. If he signs an offer sheet, the Patriots would get the Saints' 1st rounder, right? So it would end up as essentially Cooks, #11, and a 4th for Butler, #32, and a 3rd?
I mean, that's absurd.
Saints wanted to trade Cooks before giving the 700K bonus. You think they'd be willing to take up Amendola's contract? Especially when they'd still have to pay Butler.
I keep hearing this theory. When has something like this EVER happened? BB and SP being friends simply means they try to deal fairly with each other.
The only time I've ever heard of an RFA going on different terms than the associated pick was when the Pats threw in a 7th so Miami wouldn't match for Welker.
BB's responsibility is to the Patriots, period. I could still see Butler going for less than the 11th pick, but what that would tell me isn't that BB did SP a solid, but rather that Butler, or his agent, were becoming such trouble (Jamie Collins? Chandler and the weed?) and BB realized he couldn't possibly keep the guy beyond the one year (and maybe thought Butler would start freelancing that year) and so he tried to grab whatever value he could get now.
Also, if they do trade Butler, it might be a hint that Jimmy is getting franchised next year.
