Re: Breer goes back and forth on hernamdez failed drug test count

I remember when everybody here was stoked about how Breer was returning to Boston from Dallas. How things have changed.

Like Sayid, he's been touched by evil

Re: Breer goes back and forth on hernamdez failed drug test count

That was the argument Tomase's support group made when defending him, blame the editor. I always thought Tomase's source was a fellow mediot. My sneaking suspicion was it was believable on Tomase's behalf because that mediot worked inside Gillette where guys are presumed to have access they can't capitalize on. Of course one of them eventually got the axe...

Tomase's source was that Matt guy (I've thankfully forgotten this idiot's name). I am pretty sure he had no other source, though I could be wrong.

No good editor would go with only one source on a controversial story, especially when that source has an axe to grind. All sources need to have direct knowledge of the matter.

It's hard to imagine that Breer called a bunch of scouts and front office types to ask whether Hernandez had drug issues. More likely, the people Breer talked to volunteered the information. The question is - why?

When it comes to anonymous sources, I'd like to know:

Is the source credible?

Is the source acting in an ethical manner? For example, is the source revealing information deemed to be confidential by law, rule or agreement?

What is the source's agenda? Why are they revealing the information?

Why does the source refuse to be named?

When Hernandez got drafted, it was a nonevent buried deep in the Boston Globe's Sunday sports section. Now allegations from unnamed sources put the kid on page one two days in a row. Just curious -are these reports substantiated by anything other than the conversations Breer had?

There have also been numerous stories about widespread marijuana use among these year's class of draftees. To date, just how many names have surfaced?

So the question remains - who dropped the dime on Aaron Hernandez and why?

Why does the source refuse to be named?

...*cough*...Ryan...*cough*...Tannenbaum......

It's sad and pathetic to see Breer go down this path of bitterness. Oh, so now you have 5 unnamed sources instead of 3 and think this piece of "news" will help your story gain credibility? Whatever, man...

Yeah, and they're probably the same "sources" who told Tomass that the Pats taped the Rams walkthrough.

Personally, I don't care if this guy tested positive for pot in College as long as it stopped there.

Like Albert Breer, I've got sources too, although I won't name them, and according to them Rex Ryan isn't actually fat but just wears a fat suit to keep up with Rob Ryan.

No, he never talked to him directly. And Walsh never even directly acknowledged the walk through taping story to any of the handful of national mediots (likely including Borges) who had been working him for months in hopes he would. All he ever did was tease he knew other things and had proof to back them up that would have trumped Mangini and Tannenbaum's bombshell, which he didn't because he was unaware BB had copped to taping signals for years. Everyone was left to assume he must be hinting at the walkthrough story.

Tomase's second source (beyond the rumor that had been making the Boston media rounds for years) was admittedly someone he trusted reassuring him on the night he went to press that the story was legit. Even though his mentor Felger warned him not to risk running with it. You think he trusted a total stranger who was long gone before he arrived on the beat or you think he trusted a peer who wasn't in a position to publish it but who assured him although he never saw the tape personally he was positive the story was legit probably because he heard it from the wannabe nutjob's mouth or from another co worker who swore he had??

this just in...another 10,000 unnamed sources tell me the moon is made of green cream cheese...although I'm not 100% certain of the veracity of this story,I still feel I'm doing a great job reporting that this is probably true....you'd have to have lost your mind to insist you want 100% veracity on this story.

LOL. Apparently Tomase and Breer have done TREMENDOUS jobs and their journalistic integrity is UNQUESTIONABLE regardless of the lack of proof they had when running their scandalmonger stories.

Editors and writers can be wrong, and when they are, they should pay the price.

That being said, Breer is within ethical journalistic practices.

That being said, I have a hard time thinking of sports journalists as actual journalists. I think he and his sources should lay off the kid.

There are few remaining sports journalists. Please don't confuse anyone in NE with being one. There aren't even many decent beat reporters left. Everyone's a columnist and multi-mediot and they don't aspire to uphold journalistic or any other ethics. They aspire to increase web hits and overnight ratings.

This is getting old quick thank you annoying relentless media! If anyone can find a way to blow out way out of proportion well...

As I said earlier, THIS isn't THAT Breer. Few here like rumor mongering and bullsh!t. We liked Breer's Tale of the Tape.

Albert - if you're reading this, quit being as ********* and give us a Tale of the tape on Jermaine Cunningham. That, Sean, is the Breer I missed (and still do miss), this Tomase look alike isn't that Breer. Sorry.

Exactly; I was in his camp and often said how much I missed his analysis, something that was and is sorely missed in this town btw.

If I were BB I'd freeze every one of them out. Woodward and Bernsteins, breaking news Hernandez smoked some weed oh the horror. Poor guy, what a special way to publicly greet new players.

Advice to Hernandez: our poor excuse for sports media does not represent the fans. We've supported Kevin Faulk and we've supported Nick Kazur, just play well and fans will have your back.

Pay no attention to 'Albert Tomase'. It's us, the fans, who pay his salary ( feel free to ask around what happened to the original TomASSe) and it's Bob Kraft who pays yours. The media on the other hand, is irrelevant and meaningless. Just play well and win, the NE branch of TMZ won't be kissing the trophy- you will. And we're the ones who'll be cheering. Bottom line-fk 'em.

Re: Breer goes back and forth on hernamdez failed drug test count

Breer had a story. He was at least partly correct. There is a claim that he was wrong about there being more than one failed test, so he went back and got more sources to verify/contradict first article, and he's gotten further verification as a result.

That's actually good work on Breer's part.
Agree with you but I would add that Breer's only real mistake was that he thought anyone would actually care about a college kid lighting up.

Kid smokes pot shocker.

Next.

This site is packed full of people who like rumor mongering and bullsh!t, as you put it. They just don't like articles that have a negative slant on the Patriots.

Fair enough, and good for you. Rumors can take on lives of their own, and that's rarely a good thing.

I hear ya.

Me personally, I just can't stand the idea of hiding behind "unnamed" sources. We've been down that road before, and if we learned anything from it, it's they can just as easily be "unnamed" lies. If your sources don't have the seeds to speak transparently, then how do we know it's on the up and up?

It's very easy to say whatever you want if you don't stand to be accountable for it.

Here...I fixed this post just for you...hope you feel better now..
