No matter how much Aiyuk sucks....nor how bad his knee is....he would STILL be WR#1 here.

Questions:

a.) Does he even want to be here?
No, but he lost his leverage with his injury. As others have said, 49ers are looking to dump his salary. Reading some recent reports, they are looking to trade him and it may happen fairly quickly as he’s due $31M bonus on April 1st.
b.) Is he worth the money? Opposed to just signing Diggs....likely for cheaper.
No. He’s not the savior. He was worth the money to the 49ers, but not at this point with the Pats. Aiyuk isn’t that guy that can transform an offense and take them to the next level. And it’s a major red flag how badly out of shape he was when he came back to play.

These 49er commentators are convinced he's gone, and they won't get much for him at all - talking day 3 picks:

They mention the Patriots (Bedard mainly) and a couple of other teams. But they note how little apparent interest there's been compared with last year and how the 49ers might get desperate as the deadline approaches.

They have a Playoffs Defense if all is healthy: now let's assembly a Playoffs Offense.
We have play makers at each level of the D now. No more getting gashed in the running game.. nice more giving up deep passes with DBs missing coverages.

With Aiyuk
No more than a 5th if we are taking that contract off of SF’s hands before April 1st
If after April 1st and the 49ers had to swallow 27 mil of that contract then a 4th
He is damaged goods with a big contract

Not interested. But perhaps that's just me.

All things being equal, I'd pass on Aiyuk.

The hit rate on a 3rd round pick is about 16%. A compromised Ayiuk is far likely of greater value than whatever the pick has to offer.
I will say the 3rd can be packaged with the 2nd to move back up into the first round so it has a little more value than just using it to pick.

The question with Aiyuk is health and recovery. It wasn't just an ACL, lots of other damage to the knee.

It's a 3rd and a ton of money and he might be a shell of himself in 2025, hard to know without having access to all his medicals.

All things being equal, I'd pass on Aiyuk.
I am mixed
Don’t like trading picks we need on an injured player that did not want to be here last year
But if he heals well and gets back to the player he can be then I would draft that player with a 2nd rounder
Since he is damaged goods then I’d take a flyer on him with a 4th or 5th

When healthy he is an elite route runner.

Besides us who has the cap space and need for him?
We maybe betting against ourselves.

But, how much of his cap hit would we be on the hook for? That's the real question.

I’m not sure how people here “aren’t interested” in him coming here.

His price tag is high…

So what the team still has a ton of money, do you expect to just sit on it for another season?

If the trade is a 3rd cool, you essentially swapped out Matthew Judon for Brandon Aiyuk. In good with that

The other option is throwing to the same locker room full of #3 and #4 receivers

Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase aren’t walking in that door. When you can’t draft great WR talent you wind up overpaying for it. Be better

Given the injury SF would likely have to eat some of his contract to trade him - and they likely overpaid a bit last year even apart from the injury. They seem to be more concerned about dollars than picks, so one version is them eating only a modest amount of his contract (say $8m) and just get some token 6th or 7th round picks in return. The more of the contract they eat, the better the return in picks they get.

Yes he (like Diggs) is damaged goods - but he's still young, and a two year contract on a high-end receiver with an option on the third year is attractive.

Browns and Chargers seem to be the only other rumored suitors. Could be we'd be the only real suitor and could get a bargain. Nobody seems to be leaking anything, which is a bit weird in these circumstances.

Diggs I think is less of a risk, but also lower upside.

I believe the 100 mil minus last year and the 22 mil bonus he receives after April 1
