Brady the favorite to win MVP?

Does anyone think the fact that Brady missed games due to a suspension basically eliminates him from winning in the eyes of some voters? Part of me feels like some people won't vote for him just based on that principle. They'll look for any reason to not vote Brady.

I think it could be the opposite. Why should the Ommisioner be allowed to dictate the award winners by taking players off the field for nothing? Some voters might see it that way.

Oh it is possible he wins but IDK If I'd say likely is all. So far no one sticks out. Brees could put up monster numbers but IMO if they go 8-8 and miss the playoffs then I can't vote for you as MVP no matter what you do.
Agree on Brees.
The fact that no one sticks out is what makes it possible.
But he has played 2 games so it's very premature.

Brady as MVP after two games? Sure!

Hi, I'm oldrover, and I suffer from premature evaluation. o_O

Would be great if they could give it an Oline cause as it stands the MVP thus far is the Dallas Oline. Give the big boys some love for once!

****ing ******** that Manning won in 08 and 09. talk about being given an undeserving award

According to Bovada he is.

Tom Brady odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after just 2 games

Should he be though? Lets assume he has 10 more very good games on the whole and finishes with a line like..

36 TDs 5 Ints 4100 yards while going 11-1 in those games and the team scores the most PPG of any team over that stretch.

Should that win the MVP over guys who played 16 games?

I can't recall a guy missing a 1/4th of the season and winning the award.

To me to win the MVP at this point would take a crazy effort on his part. 12-0 record with 40 TDs would give him a chance though that would be an insane clip of 10 TDs every 3 games. Maybe then. If no other team does better than 12-4 this year that has an MVP candidate then you could argue in 12 games he did as much as any other player did in 16.
Steve McNair won it in 2003 (tied with Peyton) playing 14...

If Bradford and the Vikings keep it up, he may jump to the top 3.

I made a few predictions about Bradford in recent years:

If you want to see salary cap hell
Sam Bradford is the next Jim Plunkett. That's my prediction.

Also:

Bradford's downside has always been that he's frail. When healthy, he can sling it. He did it against the Patriots, for instance. Osweiler's play though was the total opposite of what Bradford can give you. Osweiler was slow. He was getting killed back there. Yeah, he's tougher than Bradford. But he was also working with Emanuel Sanders, Demaryious Thomas and others.

Possibly but I think it would work in reverse as much, if not more. There's skepticism about the suspension anyway and a phenomenal season would add to the "it was crap, nothing to see here" feeling and that Brady simply is the best.

It's gonna be tough for him since he missed 4 games. But it's also going to be tough for Brees to win it even with gaudy stats since the Saints are so bad record-wise. Long season to go though. 10 more games. Who knows if Brady continues on this pace he will definitely be in the conversation.

FWIW :

2016 NFL MVP odds: New England Patriots QB Tom Brady is the heavy favorite, per one sportsbook

Brady would not be the first player to miss games during an MVP season. He would be the first to miss four games, though.

Here is the list:

Aaron Rodgers, 2011: Missed one game
Steve McNair, 2003: Missed two games
Marshall Faulk, 2000: Missed two games
Emmitt Smith, 1993: Missed two games
Thurman Thomas, 1991: Missed one game
Joe Montana, 1990: Missed one game
Joe Montana, 1989: Missed three games
John Elway, 1987: Missed three games

Kind of hope he doesn't. Would rather he win his 4th SB MVP instead. Regular season MVP has been a curse when it comes winning the SB.

The real question is: Would he tell them (the pond scum in Parl Ave) to take their cheesy award and shove it? I would hope so.

Nah, he's clearly the best and most valuable player in the NFL right now, but I can't see him getting the award in the same season that he got a 4 game suspension. We may realize that the suspension was a load of ********, but we're not in the majority on that.

I have absolutely NO interest in who wins this puffed up award. These are the things Peyton Manning and Colt fans worry about. There is only ONE award that matters and that is the trophy currently named after the great Vince Lombardi. Everything else is decided by the same mediots who crucified Brady over deflategate.

You do realize that he can win both, and how the voters cast their ballots will not affect the SB right?

It matters this time, to me, because I think it would be cool for Brady to be named MVP in the season he had 4 games stolen from him.
SB means 100000000000 times more, but that would be cool too.

11-1?..hopefully, but posts like this show how spoiled we are. I'm glad I lived through the bad times so I can fully appreciate what we are seeing now. Some of the "youngsters" are in for a rude awakening in a few years.

I think the fact that the Patriots went 3-1 without Brady will completely tank any chance he has of getting MVP votes unless he ends the season with like 40 TDs/ 0 Ints and 4000+ yards..

even still, i just can't see the media giving MVP to a player who served a 4 game suspension
