Brady the favorite to win MVP?

According to Bovada he is.

-> Tom Brady odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP after just 2 games

Should he be though? Lets assume he has 10 more very good games on the whole and finishes with a line like..

36 TDs 5 Ints 4100 yards while going 11-1 in those games and the team scores the most PPG of any team over that stretch.

Should that win the MVP over guys who played 16 games?

I can't recall a guy missing a 1/4th of the season and winning the award.

To me to win the MVP at this point would take a crazy effort on his part. 12-0 record with 40 TDs would give him a chance though that would be an insane clip of 10 TDs every 3 games. Maybe then. If no other team does better than 12-4 this year that has an MVP candidate then you could argue in 12 games he did as much as any other player did in 16.

Who else?

Who else?

That's the question for sure. Roethlisberger looked like a likely candidate, but now he's missing games too. Is Matt Ryan really going to keep it up? Is an RB like McCoy or Elliott going to win enough support?

Brady's certainly in the mix, IMO.

his only real competition right now is matt ryan:

Who else?

As of Today...

#1 Big Ben
#2 Julio Jones
#3 Matt Ryan
#4 David Johnson
#5 Ezekiel Elliot

Guys who need to make the playoffs to be considered are Brees, Stafford

If Ben misses a few more games though he loses his argument over Brady.

Jones has had some amazing games but has had some where he was mostly invisible too.

Ryan is on a huge streak but i doubt he keeps is up.

Both RBs though could keep up this pace potentially.

Brady was a lock last year with his numbers through 10 games until wheels fell off with injuries. I still think if healthy TB wins it over Cam and CN knew it, he said it.

Only MVP that's more important is Brady's 4th in SB this year.

That's a fair list, but Jones would shock me. Jerry Rice was the only WR ever to win it, 30 years ago -- if they're looking to Atlanta, they'll go Ryan, IMO.

Come to think of it, Ryan & Jones may well take votes from each other. And some voters will decide they've given Elliott their due by voting him rookie of the year. And it will be hard for another RB to win it if Elliott puts up better numbers. And the way things stand right now, Brady may well win some statement votes precisely because he missed the start of the season, unfairly.

If he gets 36 TD in 12 games that's nearly 07 pace. Wouldn't really even be a question in that scenario.

Actually, Brady DID win MVP with those stats in 2010 and it took 4 more games.

It's not just a question of pace but quantity. He needs to be near the top or at the top in TDs likely or have such an insane TD/Int ratio that it doesn't matter if someone has 10 more TDs than him.

That is why i through out that number of TDs. It would be a season worth in 12 games. My thoughts are for him to win he needs to do a season worth of damage in 12 games which is possible but very hard. I think that kind of stat line is likely the bare minimum and would likely need to do more than that. However if he does the first stat line i mentioned he is in the argument.

Lets assume he throws 28-30 TDs.. That is great for 12 games but when someone throws something like 40 TDs and was there all 16 games did he do enough to justify himself over that person?

I mentioned 36 cause it is what he did in 2010 and would be 3 every game which is a pace he could potentially hit and could be enough to make it close but that be a break neck pace.

None of those 5 are strong MVP candidates esp considering rapistburger is now expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
Brees is in a pace for 5500 yards and 45 TDs which is the stuff voters love.

Neither RB on your list or Julio have a legitimate shot imo.

Stafford lol.

My point basically was it seems like a year where Brady's 12 games really could win it because no one seems like a great candidate right now.

Who puts that table together? They got Garoppolo on 3 games when he only started 2 games.

Oh it is possible he wins but IDK If I'd say likely is all. So far no one sticks out. Brees could put up monster numbers but IMO if they go 8-8 and miss the playoffs then I can't vote for you as MVP no matter what you do.

the big advantage that ryan has is that he plays his home games in a dome, while brady will be playing outdoors in november and december. although, if temperatures are like they are today (79° on october 19!?!), maybe it won't be a disadvantage for brady.

it's from yahoo. G is games played, not started. garoppolo played at the end of the browns game.

I wouldn't give the award to him, but couldn't Dakota Prescott be in the conversation?

Does anyone think the fact that Brady missed games due to a suspension basically eliminates him from winning in the eyes of some voters? Part of me feels like some people won't vote for him just based on that principle. They'll look for any reason to not vote Brady.

I agree with your description of the principle. However, I think that no one has stood out enough to make that matter just for this one season.
